Expanded Playoff

For several years, people have screamed for expanding the Playoffs from 4 teams to a bigger number and 12 teams were decided on. What we have is home teams that are favored by 7.5, 7.5, 8.5 and 11.5 points. Hopefully the games will be competitive or the Playoff discussion will start again.

They are looking to expand the playoff to 14 teams in 2026. It is all about the money.

We got to have more esecpn teams hosting the first round. Sankey is not happy.

Like why it’s such a common argument against playoff expansion. To me it’s by far the weakest argument.

More games means more chances for competitive games. It’s not like the 4 team playoff always had competitive games. Also the BCS national championship
Era often had blowout national title games to.

The fact we struggled to find 4 teams good enough for a national championship

means at 12-16 you're going to have a lot more teams undeserving of being there.

like the 8 vs 9 game and 7 vs 10 game will be a great game most years. As will most of the quarterfinals

Hopefully they will be very competitive. One thing that struck me the other day, we know this is all about ratings and money. Well the NFL has a double header on Saturday, so it will interesting to see how the college games do against the NFL. How much does the NFL game hurt the ratings and therefore the money.

MANY of the 4 team playoff games were blowouts. Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc.!!!

5 conference champions and 3 of the best at large teams would have worked just fine . Top 3 seeds plays an at large ....and then go from there. But the SEC....mainly and especially the SEC wants to have this sick twisted obsession to flood a fair post season tournament with schedule politics.

Bunch of sorry privelged whiney azzzzezzzzz.

But that would have tended to improve the bottom 3 leagues at the expense of SEC and BIG and they don’t want that. Those 2 want to rule and relegate the others to a lower tier.

I don't get it, you have 4, 8, or 16. A bye in football is a HUGE advantage. I'm looking for some upsets, especially Clemson over tx.

the domers lost at home to 7-5 Northern IL

bamer lost to 6-6 Vandy

That's why they play them on the field.

I am one that thinks if they hang with this format for 10 years it will all level out. If some of the "good" football schools get tired of all piling up in a conference that prevents them from ever seeing the playoff they might think there si more in it for them to jump to a "lesser" conference so as to see post season play. Then some of the wanna be schools might be able to use their easier playoff berth to recruit players. The players might be all about NIL, but they also want to be seen playing in the big games and not some meaningless bowl.
