Ever since the NCAA lost the NIL case, everything they have implemented for college sports has been to help destroy college sports. Unlimited portal transfers without restrictions has caused a long line to the transfer portal every time the portal door is opened. The portal effects wasn't taking college sports quick enough, so now they decide to allow more full ride scholarships in every sport to clog the portal even more.
Some of those kids will be stuck in the portal until they're 25 without a place to land bc only the very best portal athletes will find a place to play for pay. The ones just looking for more playing time opportunities will be stuck in the portal bc nobody will want them bc schools will have a choice of picking up 5 star athletes that's wanting to be paid more than they were being paid at their previous school...

by the federal courts. The State of Ohio vs NCAA case. The NCAA had to eat a permanent consent agreement or face losing a decision with an estimated $1.4 BILLION judgement.
If they violate the consent agreement they're looking at a probable directed verdict for the money.

Surprised to see 50 women on an equestrian team.
I get Title IX and having to even out the numbers, but couldn't some of those gone to other sports?
Can someone with some collegiate equestrian knowledge weigh in on the number of women it takes to ride a horse. How many horses and riders do the major programs have?

I guess Google says the 2 dozen D1 equestrian teams average about 50 riders, still seems like a lot. From a Title IX standpoint, this wouldn't help much at the other 100 D1 schools that don't have equestrian programs. Maybe I am wrong, not an NCAA expert.

If I am reading correctly, IPTAY and 110 Society will be one and the same. I am remembering that their admin setup was done in a way that they would eventually be under the same umbrella. This ruling appears to do that. Also, it appears that walkon type players do not have to be given a full scholarship.

There are no walk on.
The baseball scholly expansion to 35 should definitely help our team.
FB schollies going from 85 to 105 is just going to send more players to portal looking for playing time. I have no idea why they expanded to that number. Many players on an 85 man roster never got much playing time. As someone said, portal will be full of players who will never play. The top players are going to be locked into contracts and can't transfer w/o paying back money plus interest and other costs. Teams are not going to pay big money without getting a guaranteed time commitment from the stars. Thus, I see the portal becoming less of a way to build a roster. Dabo won't have to adapt to something that is going to be pretty much worthless.

Well teams like Ohio state and Georgia will now sign classes of 50. While Clemson will struggle to sign 30 because Dabo does not believe in nil or the portal

It will help a lot of teams but, I personally believe that every player that a coach has ask to come and play on his/her college team, they deserve a full ride scholarship if they are ask to represent a school on one of their athletic teams regardless of what sport. I personally feel like if you think that I can be an asset to your team, and you want me to represent your school by your rules, then you should at the very least pay for my scholarship in full. Anything less for me personally would be unacceptable...

It may very well close down many football programs. To have to pay upwards of 50% of revenue to players is more than many programs can absorb. If they don't close, they will move down to DII.
Welcome to the new world. Amateur sports are now officially over

That "free education" canard has long since been debunked. By the Supreme Court. 9-0 loss for the NCAA in the Alston case.
"Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate Under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different."

Who determines FMV, especially when there is no starting position? Why are kids, fresh out of high school and never tested, making more than people who have doctorates? We value the physical attributes of the game much too highly. The fact that they are receiving an education is much too undervalued. 90% of these athletes will never be professional. Most athletic institutions lose money, without having to pay exorbitant fees to kids. Now, they may very well have to stop playing some sports, which will lead to less opportunities for some of these kids who wouldn't have had the chance for college without that sport. Effectively cutting their own throat..... Great job ncaa

FMV is dete.jned by what the market will bear. So...NIL value is whatever a sponsoring entity is willing to pay. The NCAA rules against it interfered with that and were thus, against the low.
Athletes vs phds is a false dilemma. The lack of tailgate parties, team merch, and cheerleaders is a good indication of which has far more entertainment value.
Physical attributes? A false premise. You claim they are overvalued. The millions that watch and the tons of money they make say that your claim is bogus.
Most athletes won't become professional? Non Sequitur. NIL, transfers, and FMV in college have zip to do with the pros.
Most institutions lose money sez you? Prove it. (Hint: that's not so. Even a middling athletic program like Troy University's made $33 million last year)
Increased rosters are going to deny opportunity? That's ludicrous. That's going to give more athletes opportunities. Paying for it? Long overdue. The NCAA's old model was illegal and corrupt. Whatever it takes to fix it is appropriate.
The NCAA didn't do this. The courts did. It reversed what the NCAA did by decades of exploiting the athetes.
The NCAA is the bad guy here. The courts are the good guys. You are aligning yourself with the one indentured servitude model and using bogus arguments to defend it. That's appalling.

The colleges still give the scholarships. The colleges feed, and house the athletes. The colleges give the athletes a college education.
The NFL dies none of the above.
Your claim is a canard.

The Supreme Court says that the college education isn't enough and isn't fair market value. The old NCAA rules violated several federal laws and court injunctions and settlements.
O'Bannon vs NCAA NCAA vs Alston Ohio vs NCAA Tennessee and Virginia vs NCAA ...for starters.
No college that makes millions per year from their sports programs is stupid enough to take away scholarships...especially after the NCAA just raised the football roster limits.
Any school that wants to stockpile elite athletes will use any means they can to do so. If that beans getting players with NIL plus dcholsrshoos away from any school stupid enough to stop giving scholarships, they'll do it.
Your petulance will get zero traction anywhere that matters.
Your entire theory is a false dilemma.

The 9-0 decision says don't care what you think.
The Court is so divided that they can't agree on where to go for lunch. When they vote 9-0 about anything, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's obvious which side is right.

Apparently you're not seeing the scholarship deal for what it is or what it means. These student athletes are being scouted before they even have a clue that a certain school has or may have an interest in asking them to represent their sports program. It's not like most of these student athletes are applying for a position at these schools to play a sport. These coaches know about these kid before they are ever ask to come and play for their university. The scholarship and whatever comes with it is the pay that the programs are offering. College sports have become a huge business, and Sam, Becky, Robert and Sue just can't come by and tell them that they are going to come and play a sport at their university, they are hunted, scouted, and invited to come...

Create easy, sports-related degrees for athletes.
Like the Coots did for a WBB recruit. It's smart, and it doesn't violate any rules. It also sets up a lot of them for careers in coaching if they don't go pro.

I really don’t think major points of this settlement will withstand judicial scrutiny if I am reading the tea leaves of the Alston case. Even in a pure pay for play scenario which this proposed settlement addresses and will attempt to outlaw, a good attorney can paper it to illustrate the purchase of an athlete’s intellectual property rights in some form or fashion. The silver lining here is we may be hearing the death rattle of the NCAA clowns.
