The 900lb gorilla in the room...
Sep 29, 2013, 10:28 PM
|
|
It seems as though ESPN has already decided that Oregon-Alabama is the matchup it wants at the end of the year. We're #3, and even with wins over FSU, USC, and whomever we play in the ACCCG (not to mention UGA), I don't think that the pollsters will jump us into the title game without a loss from #1 or #2.
Stanford has a shot. Georgia and LSU have shots. But I don't see anyone else unseating Alabama or Oregon in the minds of the pundits. Personally, I think an undefeated Clemson has the SoS to justify a BCS ranking over an undefeated Oregon, but the gaudy wins over unranked teams have a big psychological effect.
Does anyone see us in the title game without a #1 or #2 loss? Thoughts?

remember that the BCS is how it graded. It doesn't take into account the margin of victory but it does SOS. So with our schedule it makes it easier for us to slip past Oregon. Although I believe that the SEC will not have an undefeated team by the end of the year so we just have to win. Go Tigers.

and focusing on games not rankings. STAN will beat ORE. And ORE will receive 1st real test in WASH this week.
UGA and LSU are not intimidated by ALA. Too early in season not to just enjoy relevance of staying #3. Remember ALA and ORE have been talented and relevant for several years - we are just joining the crème de la crème party. Be patient and enjoy ...

Ridiculous hypothetical, but what if LSU beats GA in SECC

after having beat Alabama? A one loss LSU then beats the only team they lost to previously - how would this shake out vs an undefeated Clemson, given LSU's "superior" SEC schedule?

We beat both of those teams. They are playing for the second best slot.

not surprise me. I was initially worried about this because Oregon will have a solid schedule. They did play UVA and UT OOC. Not as good as our OOC, but at least it wasn't FBS. Voters won't determine this one since we'd be 2 and 3, respectively. It will be the computers that decide. That means FSU needs to keep winning and yes, scu. Too bad wins over GT and UMD might not get as much love as they might deserve...GT might also suck too.
If UGA runs the table, voters will give our win a second look. Style points in some of these games will matter. Oregon typically loses to teams that have a DL to blow up their garbage. Stanford will probably beat them, and I don't see Stanford going undefeated. Let's just win our games.

Focus on one game at the time - do our best and play to our standard!
We will be ok!!
Dabo will get us there!!!
Hang Tough! There is a lot of football to play.
Very, very, proud; very, very, excited - you have heard this before - 1981, there were naysayers then in the media too.
Go Tigers!!!!

Yeah, their schedule is trash, but the coach's poll has them above us. I hope the coaches wise up. If we manage to beat FSU and still be undefeated I'd be surprised if we didn't jump them in the coach's poll.

Exactly. And the AP poll has zero weight in the BCS formula. I still don't know why we publish it. It means nothing. BCS is 1/3 Harris, 1/3 average of ten computer polls and 1/3 coaches poll. The only thing the ap may influence is the coaches votes, who surely don't watch every game. So we are number 4. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. If you told me by the end of September we'd climb to 4, I'd be and am pretty happy.

I'm sure they've figured out how to skew the playoff system as well. The teams playing in the MNC just need to start beating the SEC.
I think the image of the SEC as unbeatable has taken a serious hit this year. Luckily they were able to get into conference play before any more bleeding.
