ESPN insider says there is 'smoke' on Stanford to ACC still

ESPN's college football reporter Pete Thamel told the Pat McAfee show that there is still "smoke" in relation to ACC interest in Stanford, citing the program's overall athletics success. That said, Thamel says there's any number of scenarios for the four remaining Pac schools (also including Oregon State, Washington State and Cal):

Go ahead and add those 4 and let the 2 that want to go, go…
Keep the same contract, give lower dollars to pac schools for a few more years like BIG did and Clemson and FSU to SEC/BIG

Stanford would be a great fit for the ACC if they were on the East coast, but don't see it happening even if Cal would join with them.

They will go independent ... that is their play not coast to coast trips every other week.
Their non-revenue sports are going to get ruined..... and they have alot.

It could work...but you'd probably want to add one more West Coast team (Maybe Boise State? San Diego State?) and go up to 20 in membership.
Break the 20 teams into 4 pods of 5 (West, East, South, and North). 4 pod games + 3-4 other pod games (probably 1 each).
If you convinced ND to jump in, you could have a fun end of the season 4-team conference playoff between the 1 seeds if you'd like. That'd be interesting if you set it up as an extra home game for the higher ranked seed. (Or just have two with the best records duke it out like tradition if we're sticking with CC games.)
Either way, this could be a cool concept but could, woulda, shouldas, ya know.
Also, I think football needs to be considered separate from conferences already. Keep baseball, soccer, softball, basketball conferences as they are regionally speaking to save on the hassles of coast to coast planning.

B1G or SEC. I don't care which one. The acc has been mismanaged (read: basketball centric) and only seems to care about the olympic sports vs football. Football is king, the rest is gravy.
