ESPN analyst has Clemson as best positioned 1-loss team for CFP

ESPN's Heather Dinich says Clemson is the best-positioned one-loss team to make the College Football Playoff:
First, the Tigers have a manageable schedule the rest of the way. Their toughest remaining game is against Louisville, and they've got home field advantage Nov. 2. Second, they have a great shot to win the ACC if they can sustain this offensive improvement, and the five highest ranked conference champs are guaranteed a spot in the playoff. Let's add a third reason -- the loss to Georgia (even as lopsided as it was), was still a neutral-site loss to what should be a top-10 team. Even though the Tigers might not face multiple ranked opponents, the committee will still respect road wins at Virginia Tech and Pitt, plus a win against SEC rival South Carolina. ESPN Analytics gives Clemson at least a 50% chance to win each of its remaining games. If that comes to fruition, its path to the playoff likely runs through Miami in the ACC title game.

You think one of Clemson/Miami will lose a conference game, and SMU will go undefeated in the ACC?

If SMU wins at UL this weekend Id say their chances

of going undefeated are pretty good. Considering Miami/Clemson/SMU don’t play each other then there is a decent chance all 3 go undefeated. Then you have this to determine who goes.
Combined win percentage of conference opponents.
I’ve said this before - with a 17 team conference and the disparity of schedules it’s going to be a cluster and lead to outrage when undefeated are left out of conf champ and can’t earn a playoff bid based on on the field performance. This is going to apply to 8-0 teams or a group of 7-1s for a slot. Whether that be this year or next. VT beating Miami would have been huge for us in a couple of ways. UL beating a team not on our schedule is also probably a big plus this weekend. Also, if our game against Stanford had been canceled, we were likely dead for the auto bid opportunity at 7-0 or 6-1

7-0 would not have made us “dead”. The rankings are based on win percentage, so we’d still be tied for first in that scenario. That rule is in place specifically in case of canceled games, which started with covid.

November will be the challenge for this team. Carolina looks like they have a ballclub down in Colombia and VT looks like they will be a test.

lol, there hasn’t been jack squat that has “run through Miami” since they’ve been in the ACC.

I don't know about that. Cuban food runs through me about as bad as Mexican. There are a lot of Cuban eateries in Miami. Something running through fans is basically the same right?

True. That also includes teams running through their terrible team.

Clemmy making the playoffs? What a joke. Who's gonna be their best win Louisville? South Carolina? Garbage schedule.

Last time I saw us positioned to make the playoffs we went on the road to South Bend and got our doors blown off on both sides of the ball. It was a miserable night and their fans had been kind of quiet and respectful all afternoon thinking they would get killed. Let’s play a game at a time and see what happens.

The only flaw in that thinking is that if Clemson is an at-large team, they will have 2 losses.
