EJ Williams...

With all the WR injuries, we need EJ to be like Ross or Higgins were in their freshman years.
Now bursting on the scene like those two did is a tall order. EJ has looked really good, but has been missing in action the past few games.
Anyone know what it going on? Did he get hurt? Doghouse?
We don't want to ask too much...he is still just a freshman. But the big stage is set for him if he wants it.

What short memories some Tiger fans have who now say that Tee Higgins "burst onto the scene" as a freshman.
With Bryant at QB, we couldn't get the ball down the field and Higgins had a very quiet freshman season with the exception of a couple of TDs against the Citadel.
Some fans were even questioning if he was going to be able to live up to the level of what was left before him.
Ross is a different story as he had a monster freshmen season and especially at the end.

Tee didn’t do anything his freshman year and Ross was quiet until the playoffs. EJ is having a pretty good freshman year, especially considering the circumstances.

Ross had like 700 yards and 6 TDs going into the playoffs in 2018. He had a huge CFP, but he wasn't quiet until then.

game time experience to other receivers. It was a very conservative, scrimmage like game against VT. Coaches seemed to imply that they were limiting offensive plays.

Good assessment. I'd love to know as well. Listening to Elliott, he references grisham wanting to get and keep spec involved. Not sure what's going on because spec is average at best. Has a veritcle of maybe 6 inches. Why give him the 50 50 to boundary is rather puzzling cause EJ can climb the ladder and ###### the ball. Spec needs to learn to come back to the ball vs waiting on it.
With the checkdowns across the Middle he and Galloway both tend not to shield the defender and squeeze the ball out with their hands. I'm sure they're trying and so maybe you're right... Like a scrimmage game. Frustrating because that's one position group Dabo wasn't worried about going into spring.

I wonder if the coaches are holding back a bunch of looks and plays that they will need in the playoffs.

Whether it's EJ or not...

We need a couple of receivers to step up each game and get separation.
ND is a very tough team to run against and we aren't going to beat them that way. That said, the O-line has to step up and play much better than the first game. We must convert 3rd and short distances for 1st downs.
IMO, like Brian Kelly said, the score will be much lower this time around.

Confidence in the playbook. Playing Fast.

The game has to slow down for him a bit more. I think he can and will be a dominant future NFL WR coming out of Clemson. I just think he needed to get settled into where his feet were(college).
And on the note about him fading - it begs the question of is he fading or is he just not being targeted? Same question comes up with the TE group. We have 2 really good TE's in Allen and Galloway. And a couple who i.m.o could be very good as well with more snaps in Lay and Chalk. But, Galloway in the VT game rips off a big play early in the game and "BAM" quiet the rest of the way! Now, we only had 4 possessions in the 1st half that game; but I think it's a comfort thing "Perhaps" with where the QB looks. Unless it's wide open. We will have to throw it around and "throw guys open" at some point! Assuming we beat ND - Bama would make us have to throw to an EJ Williams or a Davis Allen while they are only slightly open! They will surely scheme to take away Rogers and Powell. Same thing for this ND game - take away Powell and Rogers and limit the run game and leave:
"Who to beat you"? That's the challenge for our young WR's Williams, Spector! Then our TE group will have to play big. TE's versus a LB is often advantage offense and if nothing else look for it(wht I yell at the tv the most when the Panthers play). EJ and his other young WR's will get it done for us! Exams are over and now it's just "playing football"! He has the playbook and his confidence should be in a good place. He has had some success early on as well - so I can easily see him having a break out ACCCG performance!
