Economic downturn?

With the rise in unemployment and major companies announcing layoff plans this past month, the petro-dollar being dissolved, the Nasdaq dropping 8% over the last 3 days, the DOW dropping 4, the S&P dropping 5% and bitcoin, Gold and all other investment markets hitting a steep downward turn are you concerned for a recession(or depression God forbid)?
Will any of this affect your planning to attend Clemson games or tailgating expenditure?

Not really. The stock market doesn't really impact my economic viability, and I work in an industry that isn't bulletproof, but is a necessity. I work at a hospital, there's always a need for us.
It does however affect my retirement plans, possibly.

Already reached retirement age and still working (at least part time) and have monthly "old man income" coming in at least until the economy totally collapses so being at games depends solely on health.

I prefer TV for games, but it may limit some other purchases. I have a bad feeling about the market. The economy will slow of course. The market will take a hit. There is also a lot of uncertainty in the world, so I will just be more cautious.

Same. We've had season tickets since I was 12, and I'm 33 now. Would much rather watch on TV and not have to deal with traffic and the inevitable drunk idiots. I'll still go to about 2 games a year. Typically the smaller games against Furman and such. Now baseball is a other story. I enjoy going to baseball games.

Well the ones that destroyed it are the ones that like to take credit for it coming back. I think we should all believe Kamala saying she's putting the Economy first and will get it back going, along with securing the borders! She's giving us plenty of reason to know she's telling the truth! haha...sadly some people will actually believe that.

Well, the dow is only up about 40% in the last 4 years. My company just had its fourth straight year of 20% revenue increase over the year before. Unemployment is still at crazy lows. Doing pretty good here. Based on your all caps, I see you're still pretending to be wheeling and stealing from your employer

If only the 2020 Election was not "stolen", the stock market would be up by 80%, your company would have had 40% revenue increases, unemployment would been Zero, all The Blacks Jobs would not have been stolen, no more drug overdoses, middle east issue would have been resolved ... tell when to stop.

Revenue increase means nothing in 2024. Everybody has revenue increases if you’re a small business owner because of inflation. And very likely have a smaller margin than 4 years ago.

Go back to pre-Covid and re-calculate your numbers. The “40%” growth in the Dow is more like 10% after the self induced recession the govt imposed on the economy 2020-2023. Also index your gross revenues over the past 3 years to pre-pandemic & rate of inflation. Also understand at least 15% of the increase in the Dow and your company revenue is directly related to inflation (costs of goods/services increase with inflation so does revenue). Now ask your employees how much real income they have lost in the past 3 years. Unemployment rate is based on who’s looking for a job and many have just given up. It’s gonna be a hard fall.

Several manufacturing facilities in the Greenville area, one with 400 employees and one with close to 1100 are moving either all or 90% to Mexico. One is at the 3rd of 4 planned layoffs and the other has sent around 300 jobs already with the rest going in early 2025 thanks to John Deere and their partial move out of Iowa/Illinois to Mexico
It’s coming, and if the housing market follows , lots of homes that were overvalued by 20% or more 2 years ago will suddenly run the risk of having a 2008 all over again

loans for 2nd homes and real estate investments. Doesn't seem to be the case these days. Sales have not been robust while mortgage rates were high, so many many people are in with much higher equity in their homes and manageable mortgage rates.

Yep it’s coming. Market has gone insanely crazy. Fortunately locked into a good rate.
A few of these posts in thinking our economy is strong must live in another country. Can’t hire any good help, and all the good employees are older and are retiring. Can’t imagine what my work place will look like in 10 years but it definitely is not trending in the right direction.
Unemployment numbers are skewed and some folks are taking credit for jobs lost during COVID. Average person has no clue what is going on.
Grocery bill is getting stupid and most of the stuff I buy says it’s made in China.

I haven't been to a game in about 7 years. The market has apparently just become aware of what we mere mortals have been experiencing for 2 years, now. Nikkei already down 12 pct. With no mortgage and zero debt, and far too much cash, gold and silver ... uh ... on hand, the Biden/Harris economy is about to roost! I'll just sit back and say, "I told ya' so!". Very sad!

If Harris wins her administration will likely just keep doing what Biden’s has done the past 3 years: keep printing money & dumping it into the economy! That bubble will burst sooner or later and the consequences will be devastating - much like the Weimar Republic in post-WWI Germany. Which IMO is exactly what they want to happen. Destroying the currency and along with it the middle class is the first step to bringing down a free society

Would suggest this is a planned down turn. Past 3 years plus has been planned to drain folks with high pricing. Next up most likely rate cuts and dropping pricing ( primarily gas pricing) for the same folks to stay in power then the next plan to drain everyone again. The old European Monarchy is still alive and well, just under different name. Will wait and see what happens moving forward. Until then GO TIGERS

All you have to do is go to restaurants and shopping areas in South Carolina and it will be apparent that the economy is alive and well. Companies like Intel that announced layoffs are driven by market prices and bottom line earnings. Corporate America is all about making more money today than you did yesterday and when you don't changes are made.

The broad brush you paint with largely doesn't apply to the kids at Clemson.
1) I can't actually name a transfer on this year's team. 2) We know Dabo doesn't use NIL to get kids to commit to Clemson, they are rewarded after being in the program and contributing. 3) We're not like many other schools and paying gobs of money to our kids.

I looked into attending a game this fall but between decent tickets, hotel, food and gas I was looking at a couple grand. Hard to justify that kind of layout when i can watch it at home for free. The best part about the down years was being to grab a couple of good tickets for $100. Success is expensive! Lol.

Unemployment is at its highest rate since 2021, the stock market had its worst day since 1987, groceries are up an average of 53%, gas is up over 1.50 a gallon on average, the national reserve is depleted, the Middle East is on the brink of war. All of the jobs that were so called created were jobs that came back after Covid. Retirees have had to come out of retirement and get jobs to survive due to inflation. The average monthly rent/house payment is up from $1000 a month to $2,500 a month. All of this was co wrote by Camilla and her band of cackling idiots. #### she can’t even keep staff and has massive turnover in her office because of how she treats people. She ranked 100th out of 100 senators and was named the most liberal senator over Bernie Sanders. How could anyone think of voting for this idiot is beyond me. This country needs help and needs to turn back to God! I pray for peace and that my son’s don’t have to fight someone else’s war like I did. Better get it together and realize these politicians only serve themselves especially the democrats. We need to secure our border and take care of our own people.

The increase in the cost of absolutley everything has certainly impacted optional spending. We've cut alot of extras. I used to attend at least two Clemson games, two Nascar races and one professional sports event (usually a Patriots game) every year. I have not done any of those things in the last 3 years nor do I spend money on related merchandice. I am arm chair sports fan now and beginning to ask myself why I would wipe out an entire Saturday afternoon and evening watching college football.

Nope. My family (2 tiger Alumni) stopped going 5 years ago. We host watch parties and do go to 1 road game per year. Clemson ticket prices are over the top. Wake, Louisville, Duke are all much cheaper and the trip is a nice treat for us.

not really. Stock market is just a correction. It was due and overdue. Market is still up ten percent for the year.

We will still attend home games. Not sure about playoff travel if that comes up. Retired last year. Bought our house in late 2019 and have a very good interest rate so our home equity is making money for us. Market fluctuations won’t affect our retirement income unless something like a total collapse happens.

We watch the games from the comfort of our home so no impact to our football viewing at the moment
