During the Napier fiasco

I said all along that Napier being named OC was not necessarily Dabo's decision and though there's been no evidence either way, I stand by that.
Every decision Dabo has made regarding staff hires has worked out well for us. I have faith that this OC decision will be no different

Even if that was Dabo's call, I'd bet he's much better

equipped to make such a hire now than he was then. He knows what Morris brought to the table, and how a very successful offense is run; and he knows Jeff Scott very well, including his capabilities and his limitations.

That's my point. I think Dabo knows Jeff Scott as well as anyone. If he decides Scott is the guy, Dabo's done enough to justify our trust in that decision.

The Napier experiment was made worse by the fact that Dabo wanted to have a different offensive identity than Napier did, so they ended up trying to do both and having none.

Forgot about that but again, not entirely sure that was Dabo's decision completely.
Even if it was, there's not many programs that wouldn't have hired Steele as DC at that time.

Dabo had to take what he could get at the time.

He has a lot more to offer now than he did when Steele came along.

Didn't Napier win the ACCCG in 09 ?
Dec 2, 2014, 2:54 PM

In 2010 the whole season changed on one late hit on Parker(in the back) @ Auburn. Had Napier still been here in 2011 with that recruiting class he HELPED bring in, things would have been different. Still glad we had had Chad for 4 years, but let's not look at Napier the wrong way.

Swofford didn't just award it to UNC for all those years of academic excellence and being the shining city on the hill for the ACC.

but I doubt he was involved in personnel decisions routinely and customarily made by the head coach.

Dabo was brand new, no experience as a coordinator and a big risk for TDP. I'm betting there was a serious leash on Dabo the first year or two regarding personnel decisions.
TO think otherwise isn't looking at the big picture then.

It was a loyalty hire by Dabo...
Dec 2, 2014, 3:17 PM
|
|
Swinney made Napier the youngest offensive coordinator in program history when he promoted him to the position as a 29-year-old with little play-calling experience and it ended-up biting him i nthe butt.
TDP had nothing to do with it other than he may not have been willing to give Dabo the financial resources to go out and hire a veteran coordinator.

So you think that TDP, with his record of hiring, would've just handed complete control on personnel to Dabo, a WR coach that had ZERO experience hiring a football staff?
Seriously?
The move to make Dabo the HC was a huge risk for TDP. There HAD to be some control there or its just really bad business.

Everybody makes mistakes and IF Dabo made the call on Napier as well as Steele he has learned from them and won't make them again. I will support Dabo in whatever decision he makes as I know Dabo is looking out for the best for Clemson.
GO TIGERS!!!!!
