but if your "all world" guys aren't giving effort it won't matter.

Some of the defense's woes are from schemes and coaching, but most of the issues are from underperforming, overrated, lazy, slow players on the field.

Only one player on defense has played every snap like he wants to be out there...Heldt...a transfer.

Pretty sad that the two guys on the team that have shown the most passion, heart, and effort are both transfers (Heldt and Smith).

This defense reminds me of the 14, 15 and 23 UofSC defenses...

that were so bad. The couldn't shed blocks, they over-pursued, they took really poor angles to the ball carriers, and they couldn't tackle.

Any football defense with all of these flaws is "soft" or "undisciplined" and will consistently give up large gains and explosive plays. These breakdowns are not isolated issues but interconnected fundamental failures.
