For better or worse.
Roll of the dice when you replace a HOF coach with anyone, much less someone not from the "family".

Likely not. Lee is demanding his pitching coach be paid same as SC pitching coach. Working out the numbers, that's why deal not done yet.

According to polls, most Clemson fans wanted a new coach. It's fine if you disagree, but can we please not be just silly and outrageously wrong to continue to push that sentiment.
Someone wrote "He'll always be remembered as the AD who fired a Hall of Famer." Yeah? Is that hwo FSU's AD is remembered? Plus, it is baseball.

He's not going anywhere. I agree. This will define him though cause I don't see him having to make another move in the big 2 sports during his tenure. I do however believe that Lee is simply keeping the seat warm for a few years. Then we get our guy.

I fell asleep reading this post. Really? Some of you guys don't get this. We have a BOT, an AD and Clements wanting to be the best in athletics. If you cannot fathom to see this then cheer for Wofford.
Please, I've seen the fallout over Ford, the terrible presidents like Lennon & Barker. The Chicken Amicks and....now...things really have seemed to change.

Where do you get the notion our board, AD and President want to be the "best in athletics?" It took two weeks and at least three meetings to come to terms with a Colonial Athletic Conference coach. We gave a coach who can't make the NCAA tournament a long term deal in basketball. I'm really not trying to be belligerent, but I don't see it and I would love to be persuaed otherwise. When Wilkins was elected chairman there was a lot of hype that Clemson was finally going to have an advocate for athletics. But everything has been business as usual as far as I can see.

I'm not crying for a baseball coach. You're the temper tantrum throwing baby Dr. WiseTiger that can't handle being challenged. Where exactly is the commitment to winning? If it's only about football, then how was it relevant to the baseball hire? I didn't start with the name calling. Please tell me why I'm supposed to believe Wilkins, Radakovich, and Clements are committed to putting athletics forward at Clemson. You said it. I'm asking for some evidence. Is this hire supposed to be it? If so, just say so. I see a President at Carolina calling sports their front porch and performing and spending money all over the place. What am I missing. This, "if you're too stupid to see it stuff" is a complete cop-out. Don't care if you like, but I'm not going anywhere So it would only make sense to try and persuade me. Look at my post counts. I'm not like the belligerent tools that thread stalk people and post a dozen times a day on average. I'd love an honest answer. Since you seem to think so much of yourself, there might actually be some validity to it.

So, we're back to that huh? Would you use that kind of humor in public? I imagine it might have some potential career ramifications for someone as smart and influential as you. I guess it must be a real relaxing thing when you can saddle up to the Internet and let all your prejudices fly. Well, let me pull these balls out my mouth. Nope, they still don't have an answer to my question. That's cool if you're not used to being challenged. I know you might be used to having syncophants around all day and not really no how to react. It's cool. I'll just chalk it up to you really actually have no answer or you're just a miserable prick.

Thought we already hashed things out. Have you not seen the number of things he's called me over the preceding dozen posts? My initial query was entirely reasonable. No, I don't intend to just lie down to every TNet bully. And at a 50% pulse, I'm clearly not the first person he's ever gotten out of line with. Sorry, didn't realize I can't ever come back to the club if we don't all share exactly the same opinions.

I just hate to see you go down the same path with him that we went down.
And even though you didn't ask me, I'll try to answer your question.
Yes, this admin, pres, and BOT appear to be committed to athletic excellence. Last year we had the highest paid OC in the country. We had the highest paid OC/DC team in the country. We built a new indoor practice facility. New track facility. Are building a new basketball arena. New additions to DV. Look at how much has already been spent on the baseball facility and how much more is planned. A new tennis facility. And even though you don't agree with it, the decision to fire a HOF coach was made in support of better athletic performance.
Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more examples.

See, perfectly reasonable answers. I definitely think there is a serious commitment to football. I am concerned about the other sports. i guess we'll see. I still cast everything to do with baseball against what USC has done. Hopefully the final product will be comparable. Comparing budgets is somewhat pointless since their budget included buying property and building an entire stadium.

Do you actually have a clinical condition where you are compulsively unable to answer a question? (Sorry my a-hole filter is off on this device). It was a serious question posed in a reasonable manner. What has changed? What? Hire on the cheap or dramatically overpay for garbage. If you think they've waited till now over background checks and due diligence you're daft. He wants way more than he's worth and the board wouldn't come off with the money till everyone realized there were no better or more affordable options. TDP gave Bowden a nice big, fat extension and buyout to fire him a few games later. Brownell will last a season and half longer than Bowden (after his new deal) did but that's about it. Will eat nice big buyout on that one and then hire on the cheap again. Monte Lee might work out fine but don't pretend for a second this was a home run hire. Schlossnagle or O'Sullivan were home runs. This is purely B-team and you know it. You are one of the who used lack of championships to tear into Leggett. So if I'm judging the administration why doesn't the same standard apply? Where are the championships because I sure as heck don't seem them. There are 4 major sports and we're putrid at one, bad at the other, and slightly above average at a 3rd. Football is fun again but we aren't exactly swimming in championships if that's the standard. So tell me where we're hiding all the trophies so I'll see my mistake. 10th of 15th teams in the ACC in the All Sports Cup doesn't exactly scream commitment to athletics and winning.

Baseball, while important to some Clemson fans, loses about $1 million per year and is not a career-defining sport for athletic directors.

I agree with you in principle but I really doubt he's gonna hire a football replacement during his tenure so this could be his landmark hire. Brownell isn't likely going anywhere no matter what for 2 seasons and after that it'll be fairly consensus what should happen. So, I doubt he gets fired over a baseball fire/hire, but it could very well be what defines his tenure.
