To give them credit, they were the strongest of the last three. I would have preferred App st , GA southern or Marshall. Such garbage.

Nothing wrong with SMU as they want to be good in sports, adds ACC recognition to Texas, and will invest in their sports teams. Gives ACC big TV market and they are not taking any ACC $$ for like 7yrs.
I think they earned respect in year 1 as they made CFP, best ACC record in FB, currently 4th in Bball and are competitive. I think they were a good addition.

Getting a team in the Dallas area is good for tv revenue.

Makes more sense than the California schools. Nothing against them but not sterling sports reputation, plus two more time zones and a ton more jet fuel for all teams involved.

That’s just incorrect. Stanford is the best sports school in the ACC (and in all of D1, for that matter) by a large margin. They have won the all-sports trophy 26 of the 30 times it has been awarded (and been second the other 4). They just have not been great at the money sports.
Cal on the other hand…
