Probably had a big effect on the outcome. It will for many teams. The product on the field is diminished because of the portal.

Onjectively...probably not. I've read people on T-net post about how the ACCs bowl record doesn't count because bowl games are meaningless outside the playoffs with the transfer portal and opt-outs. Should they have been in the playoffs...no, but the logic works both ways.

Preseason I guessed Alabama would have 4 losses this year. It’s hard to change coaches. They lost to 3 unranked teams.

That's what makes their complaint about the playoff spot so bizarre. Could just imagine where Clemson would be if our losses were that bad? Not saying ours weren't necessarily, but we aren't Alabama in the media's eye. Or how about losing to an FCS at the beginning of the season (Notre Dame). Ya think we would have made it back to the top 5 by years end? Even with Notre Dame's schedule? Not likely.
