Not sure where you going with that. Is the young man in question criple or something wrong with him? Seems like a legitimate positive pickup.

agree, his film looks better than our wrs that portal'd. I'd argue he'll be better at running routes than our 'speedster' Turner.

Jerry Rice went to Mississippi Valley State
There are plenty of well-known players that went to small town schools for various reasons. I don't know this kid's story but someone on staff liked him enough to give him a shot here. I'll watch him play 1st before I write him off because of what school he came from.

Guy originally had grade issues from my understanding or would have had bigger school offers. Spent time at JUCO, grown up. and from what I have gathered fits the mold of that bigger, physical WR able to go get the 50/50 balls. He'll be 215 by fall and very Mike Williamsesque

Lol totally not the same
Hunter Renfrow’s football IQ allowed him to be what he was
He has an incredible knack for football. Being in the right spot, how he ran his routes with deception, etc.
He’s got great physical abilities, but when comparing him to other players on the field, it’s less. And he knows that.
So, yeah not the same story here.

That's stupid. They're entirely different receiver with different skillsets. I don't see him starting, but he adds a nice wrinkle to our offense if he can crack the two-deep. He is entirely different from Renfrow.

No it does not anger me .. why would I let something as trivial as where a young man plays football anger me? I have no control over that! It does not puzzle me . There are not many players at any school better than what Clemson already has and if there is one they are happy where they are or they want more money than what they currently are being paid!
The portal is ludicrous as currently constructed! The NIL is unsustainable as currently constructed!
Dabo has been telling you this!

Not really. You can find some good players at smaller schools. Indiana took some from James Madison team last year and made the cfp. Fifth year guys are good too from all schools to fill gaps. Again money is a factor as well as culture. Dabo can’t afford a Tamu, Colorado etc. roster reload nor does he want the drama that comes with it. Heldt is a need hopefully within Dabo budget.

Than a guy who was a 4 star recruit out of high school and went to a big time program but is quitting his team because he couldn't crack the 2 deep where he was playing. And those are essentially your two main options in the portal.
Also Tristan was by all accounts a very late bloomer. Was only 6'1 or something his Junior year of high school and very skinny (which he still is). Sounds like he had some issues with grades too which affected his school choices but have now been resolved.
Personally I'm very excited about him and think he has a lot of potential. But I'd guess he will need a bit of time to bulk up, learn our playbook, and earn the coaches trust before we see him on the field a ton.

Kids grow and mature differently. Seems like a late bloomer who is now rounding into form. I'm sure all parties involved are enthused about the type of tools we have to help develop him further, even if it's just for one year.

Not at all. Receiver isn’t a something we need a starter at. Wesco and Moore will be back next season. Brown more than likely will be back. And Dabo convinced Carter to come back when he had a mid round grade last season. I think he will do the same to Williams. He added a big body receiver who could help in red zone areas. Didn’t need a superstar player for receiver. Definitely need help on the other side the ball.

Is he really much better than any other receiver we have or will bring in? wherever he’s been playing he’s got 3 or 4 years of running routes and catching footballs on a 50x120yd grid. That’s resume enough imo compared to who we got now

You do realize we just lost 2 receivers, right? Now, we bring in a 6’5” guy with 3 years experience and you really can’t figure out why? Maybe this will help:
How Tristan Smith will fit on Clemson football’s roster
Smith will provide depth for Clemson at wide receiver with Antonio Williams, T.J. Moore, Bryant Wesco Jr. and Tyler Brown involved in the starting rotation. His size allows him to be aggressive at the catch point and win one-on-one battles.
Smith had more than 100 receiving yards in three games and at least seven catches in eight games this season. He faces better competition in the ACC, but he has a wealth of experience to hold his own.
