Mike&Mike are saying this is so, due to all the people attacking the game , for the injury aspect. But I served in combat for a lot less money and I deal with pain from it. Many deal with severe pain every day from their jobs. My question is, will people stand by and let them take football? I can't imagine not having football to watch in the fall. I for one love the game. Its the heart of this country.

Lawyers and our own citizens in this country are doing their best to take our own free will away from us.
It's not about simply wanting to play the sport regardless of known risks of injury.
Honestly wouldn't be surprised either way, but do expect more and more restrictions for the younger kids to the point where many may simply look to other sports.

As long as destitute kids can make millions of dollars by being really big, strong, and fast football is going nowhere. Baseball Is more about skill and hand eye cord. Basketball is similar in the alot of skill needed for setting shoulders, shot technique, ball handling. Football in the trenches is who wants it more, who is stronger, who is quicker. Football may lose some future Wes Welker but the future Dez Bryant going to keep coming out the woodwork. If Soccer ever gets Huge in the US then maybe it takes a dive since at the end of the day it is just running and kicking. (Sorry it's true soccer aficionados)

Do you know how many lawyers are out there defending the Constitution and specifically the Bill of Rights? There are a lot of politicians trying to take away certain rights, and there are countless lawyers trying to stop them.

than the typical sleazy ones who are the brunt of every lawyer joke. For example, a friend of mine works tirelessly and with very little pay to defend children's rights in North Carolina. In contrast, I chase ambulances and push forward frivolous lawsuits to support my own lavish lifestyle. It's not my fault that my son has taken a liking to filet mignon and lobster, and who am I to tell the kid no?
My original point is, you've got regular citizens, politicians, rich people, poor people, and Shaneleys of this country who are trying to strip away the rights and freedoms of Americans. Not just lawyers

My bet is no. If people want to play the game despite the potential harm to themselves for compensation who would have the authority to step in and ban it. There is too much money wrapped up in football. You won't find any politician, or at least enough, who don't get contributions from people who make money from football directly or indirectly for a vote to ban it. Even if they did ban it in Congress what would the Constitutional authority be? Boxing, UFC, rugby and football all involve high levels of trauma. They have and will continue to survive. They may impose age restrictions or start kids out only playing flag football but telling adults what they can or cannot do for a paycheck is frowned upon.

No there is too much money and too many people defending it. Watch what will happen if a president tries to ban the game. That is the only way it would happen and I doubt any president would be bold enough to cut a multibillion dollar industry that not only makes a ton of money but impacts lives both in the way of growing young men and bringing people and families together.

Certainly college athletics are a little more dangerous but players sign on and never have to play anymore than HS kids. Still there aren't many college players who didn't also play in the NFL that have as many long term effects which says a lot since there is a much greater volume of former college players than NFL players.
Furthermore, the NFL could be in legal trouble because of their commissioner and their willingness to overlook the danger of too many concussions. So much progress has been made in the way of concussions that it is almost silly sometimes the hoops you jump through just because you got hit a little hard. However, many lives have been saved. The NFL needs to retroactively help any and all families of players who have had several concussions.
Finally, most people realize that athletics and primarily football keep a lot of underprivileged kids in school and give them the hope of a college scholarship. But, by keeping them in school it also affords even the common player the opportunity for success after HS based off of learned skills, earning a diploma and having reference from often times highly regarded members of the community. If you take away HS football you take away arguably the greatest non academic support for almost every HS in America.

No I don't get a check. I was not wouded in combat, and when I was I lied to doctors so I could get back out there. Looking back it wasnt smart. But I was a hard charger and in the .arines if your on light duty you are looked down at. Cheese di*k, light duty commando , broken marine. All words we used to describe and injured marine. You have to wear tennis shoes( go- fasters) when on light duty so everyone knows. I didn't want that. I wanted to be in the action.

I can see that it might be banished in high schools. And, if so, where will colleges and the Pros get football players. I can definitely see where high schools may not be willing to take the legal and financial risks involved. So....could happen.

Right now you have kids football starting at about 1st grade. I could see nervous nelly parents delaying letting their kids play football until high school. And at that point have they moved on to something else (other sports, part time job, girls)?
I'm not letting my kids play football until about middle school for several reason.
1) I don't want to give up going to Clemson games to watch little kid football.
2) They are crazy for making kids in elementary school practice football as much as they do
3) Its not good football. Its basically all sweep left, sweep right, run up the middle, incomplete pass. They aren't missing anything by not playing now and their isn't a whole lot to gain.
4) Mostly I'm worried that letting him play now would mean he would get tired of it before its really fun (ie playing in front of his friends in high school). Practicing for 2 hours a night in front of mommies and daddies to play a game in front of mommies and daddies will get old fast.
Safety isn't even on the list of reasons why I don't want them to play yet. I'm far more worried about his safety when he is on the mound during baseball season than I ever would be him playing football through high school.

I went to 5 games this year including ACCCG and NatCG. I love Clemson football.
That said, if I had a boy he would not play. There is no circumstance or safety measure that can be taken to prevent the rapid acceleration and deceleration causing shearing and micro injuries in the brain that result in CTE. It is real. It was historically referred to as a coup contra-coup injury in things like car accidents, but research evidence is now clear that these occur on every play.
This is not a Concussion ad, though if you have not seen it you should.
Also, even the verbage is b.s. propoganda. Is it really "an attack on the game?" Or is it a presentation of truth inconvenient to what we want to hear?
I have battled with this for 2 years now. I eventually, if I am being honest, will quit watching. The issue isn't the number of players in the NFL with issues but lower levels too.

A group of 8th graders were given a series of memory and logic style tests. They then practiced football for 2 weeks. They retested and the scores were lower across the board. The scary part is they were tested agin later and the scores stayed down.
Football needs to change.
I often wonder if it wouldn't be better to have less padding and equipment. Perhaps people wouldn't throw themselves around so recklessly and tackle with better form

Frontal lobe of the brain responsible for reasoning and decision making is not fully developed until 25 on average in males.
I think an 18yo soldier is crazy, but that is our "adult" age. Thay being said, these kids are 6yo in peewee leagues. Thats 12 more years of hits during developmental years in which they clearly can't be expected to understand the pros and cons of the choices.
One concussion equals seizures and epilepsy as a possibility at any point in life going forward.

Agreed I coached my son through peewee. One of my kids are playing at Clemson right now. But I had a guy helping me telling the kids to lead with they're helmet. I got the team together and told them to use their pads not their helmet. Their necks are skinny, and their skull undeveloped. To win was not worth getting a kid hurt.

I absolutely agree that there's no way to deny or argue the point that collision to the head causes lower IQ. My point is instead of banishment, possibly teach or learn new ways to protect the head. I for one don't want to loose football.

Studies show that soccer and boxing is way worse then football, but is anyone going after those sports? I do agree that less padding, would make them slow down. But rules against such collisions would also help.

Injuries in soccor are a problem, but not head injuries. Esp after they took away "heading" in high school and lower (rightfully so).
People can bow up and talk macho, but to put children in a situation that knowingly increases risks to current and future mental health without doing any due diligence is negligent and selfishly assinine.
Again, strong words from a Clemson football loving hypocrite right?

Controls double blind to the testing facilities? You know, this isn't like a pill or liquid. Calling it a science is quite a leap. One study? How long did it last, how many boys were involved?
Seems that if the testers felt they expected mental damage to the kids I'd ask WTPH kind of people would expose children to a test of that nature?

and the conclusions made so far are VERY disputable. First and foremost, we don't have a clue what the prevalence of the tau protein that causes CTE is in the general population and at what levels is the protein dangerous. Shoot we don't even know what the prevalence of tau/CTE is in a small subset of the population like NFL players. Mainly because you can't detect it until the subject is dead. The fact of the matter is, the only people that have been tested for CTE were dead people who played football and showed diminished mental capacity or an unexpected behavioral change (committing suicide is considered an unexpected behavioral change). Finding a related brain injury isn't exactly a surprise.
And finding out that there is danger from repeatedly banging your head into hard objects isn't really breaking new ground there. If parents don't let their kids play because football is inherently a dangerous game, thats understandable. If parents don't let their kids play football because of CTE thats a total overreaction at this point.

Are they still boxing, racing cars, motor cycles or stunt flying? Folks were crying about the violence of boxing a hundred years ago but it's still here. The autos and bikes get faster and more dangerous every day so it's not about the new S&C measures taken and the greater impacts on the field.

It's not really the physical nature of the workouts but really the violent hits to the body and head. It's those kids choice to play and they know the consequences.....

I agree that most voters , vote for who they think its cool or diverse to vote for.
I understand that the world doesn't care if you are sympathetic to them. They hate us because we're American.
