Do we really even know how much of the offense is play

Oct 20, 2014, 6:26 AM

calling and how much are QB decisions based on the plays, or checks into/out of plays at the LOS?

Not to throw Stoudt totally under the bus, b/c he made some very good plays on Sat, but he often misses open WR's, meaning doesn't throw to them at all, or makes what appear to be bad reads on read option plays. I say "appears" b/c we don't know if it's a called fake or an actual qb read.

Plus, it is very often that a play would have been very good if 1 guy on the OL had actually blocked his man. It's often a different guy, but I;ve seen a lot of Norton, Beasley, and Battle throwing "look out!" blocks. Or the TE, TE's seem to whiff a lot, too.

Even the run/pass ratio can be a result of qb decisions.

I thought putting Choice in at wildcat qb and running the option was a good idea, I called for it last week. Sucks that he got hurt on it.

Hope we shelve the Wildcat for good now ...

Some teams seem to be able to make the Wildcat work ... Clemson has not been one of those teams. The Wildcat works best with a strong OL. We've put our very best athletes in the Wildcat over the past few years and have produced basically nothing but a bunch of wasted pays. Please .. no more Wildcat.

Cole is getting better, but still has a lot of problems. He's doing okay, but often not making the optimal reads on passing or running downs. Remember though, that Cole has been on campus for several years, but he is still basically a *rookie* starter who having to perform in live action against the other team's best players for the first time this season.

As for the line, doesnt much of this go back to Batson? As to the qb, I am beginning to form the opinion that he is being strongly scripted, managed and critiqued - and then there are the fans and all the bs we have thrown his way. How effective can a qb be who is second guessing everything?

Mainly it goes back to recruiting ... then to coaching, and

maybe then, to strength & conditioning.

Hopefully we get Dye back this week. Put him in, along with Gallman, and turn the run monsters loose. The run always sets up the play action pass, the defenses won't know what hit em'!!!!!!! GO TIGERS !!!!

I must ask, Have you ever played QB in a real game? I have, and the speed of a big defensive end is hard to imagine.you just hope you find someone to throw too without getting killed . Try it sometime, then complain

Ahh, well then. Very very few of us could ever say anything

Oct 20, 2014, 9:43 AM

about anybody anytime, because we haven't done it ourselves.

Never been President? Can't say anything, then.

I'm trying to objectively evaluate our team, strengths and weaknesses. But my point was that what gets called "playcalling" might in fact be defense-reading, or qb decisions.

But Don't give me the You-can't-say-anything-unless-you've-done-it crap. I'm comparing our qb play to other D1 qb's, not Hall-of-Fame pro's, or anything like that.

One thing most don't realize, I mean we did just play the #1 and #11 ranked Defenses in the country and won. Yeah our D saved both games for the most part, but Stoudt still did a heck of a job not losing the game either and did lead a late go ahead drive in the 4th to retake the lead this past weekend. As far as the offense goes, I believe its more on Morris being to conservative and to careful with Stoudt. He had a lot more success taking shots down field and he had enough time to do so. He has to stop calling plays like Boyd or Watson is in the game while Stoudt is in. Just let him be a drop back passer and sling it, stop all that fanciness! It takes to much time and looks like the offense is in slow motion to much.
