DJ then and now

DJ had five TDs this weekend and his team is ranked 14th. He’s playing much better than he did at Clemson. What’s the difference. I’ve watched a few Oregon State games and I think the difference is the offensive line. Their line is big, and they buy him a lot of time which gives him a chance to make the throws he’s capable of making. He still has some misses, but he’s obviously playing at a much higher level than he did at Clemson. I just wish our offensive line could be the pride of this team like our defensive line has been for years.

Except the 2022 Wake game ... but he's showing improvement this season. Can he beat UCLA at home this weekend? I believe he can. Good for him.

Yup. The difference is the Dlines he’s playing against.

I think it's less the D lines he's playing against and more the O line he's playing behind. Oregon State quietly has one of the best OLs in the nation.

He was a square peg in our offense. Our Oline certainly didn’t help, and he never had the receivers that DW4 and TL16 had except when he started when Trevor had Covid.

Yeah… good thing he left… Our offense was 15th in the country this time last year; we were fifth in the country for red zone scoring, and ranked 5th overall this time last year. we were also averaging somewhere around 41 points per game….and we ran him off…SMH. Also, I think we ended up the season ranked top 10 in the country for explosive plays (20 yards or more).

2023 92 152 60.5 1,307 8.6 13 4 75 155.7 2022 229 369 62.1 2,521 6.8 22 7 59 135.3
Through 6 games he's on pace for the exact same season as last year. I've watched a few games and he still looks like the same heavy footed, no moving in the pocket QB. Still has the occasional ball that comes out like a duck and hits the ground with no receiver in sight.

8.6 YPA is a massive improvement over 6.8

We will see if he can maintain that as the competition gets better, but I don't think you can just gloss over a 1.8 YPA improvement.
My rough chart for YPA:
10+: Very elite passing offense, probable Heisman finalist
9-10: Very high level passing offense, QB likely in the Heisman discussion (Trevor finished in this range 2/3 years)
8-9: Good to very good passing game (DW4 finished in this range twice and Trevor once)
7-8: Average to slightly above average passing game
6-7: Below average to bad
5-6: Inept passing game
4-5: Iowa and Northwestern

Lol he's played no one except a Utah team with no QB right now. He looks just like he did at Clemson...average with a good game here and there.

Throw out the one off Cal game this year and the one off Wake game last year and he still sux.
The other 4 games he is
53/102 - a whopping 52% 793 Yards - 198/game 5 TDs and 4 INTs
Pretty much his season averages last year minus the Wake game.
If he has 2 games in a row like he had against Cal, maybe he's making a turn.

You must've missed one in there

He's played 5 other games. 10 TDs, 4 INTs, 1032 yards, 73/127, 57.4%.
Not stellar, but throwing out any QBs best game is going to hurt their numbers. What does Cade look like without his best game?

I left the stats off for the Cal game just because it's an aberration like Wake was last year. Those stats were from the first 4 games this year and pretty much mirror 2022 stats (leaving off the last year Wake game).
The one I will not forget was his 8/29 (27.6%) for 99 yards performance against the Coots in 2022. Enough said.

Good kid, NO issue with him and I hope he can get a camp spot in the NFL. But only reason he has better numbers in spots is PAC is really not very good. ACC always takes a beating eith the media but the football played at our middle and bottom tiers is on par with everyone they have not named Utah, USC and Oregon most years. fact is, USC MIGHT have one of the worst defenses in the nation. Look at Colorado and AZ games. They are Turrabel!

Good kid with an above average arm, behind one of the best OLs in the country he looks like the same QB. Hope he’s enjoying the change of scenery

Oregon State is a much better scheme for for him. His limitations are still the same. Very little read option or RPO on the Oregon State offense so not as much information to process for him. Hand the ball to who is supposed to get it, typically a play is an either a run or a pass with less to no need to read the defense and decide. Oregon State likes to run and then run play action of the run. DJ can drop straight back make a read or two and then throw it. This offense covers up some of his shortcomings. This used to be called a Pro Style offense. Ironically, many pro teams are now playing offenses more similar to what Clemson runs than what Oregon State runs. I wish DJ the best out there but I don’t hold out a lot of hope that he is an NFL QB.

Have to see how the year plays out. It's funny that he said

he wanted to be under center more. I have watched part of several games and the offense seems a lot like Clemson's. Mostly shotgun or pistol. He does have a wrist card this year versus only signals from the sideline. Maybe that's helping him some. (of course we started using that this year with Riley as well....). He's not playing against strong defenses, and he's had a ton of open receivers. Not a lot of that last year. He is a good kid with a pretty good arm. He does not throw it to the correct place quite often. Not sure if that's mental or accuracy. Still remember several times last year where a receiver was running straight down the field and if it's thrown to the correct side away from the defender it's a long completion. He seemed to always be able to throw it to the defender's side and cause an incompletion. Just have to see how the year plays out!

Just wait until he hits the good teams. Washington st is really the only decent full strength team he has faced. Utah was without their starting qb or they lose that one too. Just wait the real DJ WILL show up.

DJU is 19th in Yds/Comp; Klubnik is 106th
Oct 10, 2023, 6:36 PM

it's called two different offenses, and the one DJU is in right now suits him better.
Beyond that, nothing much to tell.
He's still a pitcher trying to play QB, whereas we don't know what Klubnik is quite yet.

The bigger question - does he still have that fly hat and suit he wore after his first loss at UGA?
