Dabo will continue digging his heels in, touting his way as the best, and point out that we won the ACC and made the CFP so no changes are warranted.

The precedent has been made. He's shown a willingness and ability to make changes very recently. Which means there is no reason he won't do the same this off season.

It is clear that he has made them. That isn't really up for debate.
The point of my post is that I do not feel that he will make any notable changes THIS offseason. For example:
-I believe Riley will remain OC.
-I believe Goodwin will remain DC.
-I believe Grisham will remain WR coach.
Sure, he might shuffle some others around to give them a title promotion or something, but I do not expect any big changes.
Why? Because Dabo is committed to doing things a certain way. He's stubborn and proud. If he thinks he can continue doing things his way by convincing himself that things are good, then he isn't going to change. He also refuses to change if he thinks it looks like he's doing it as a result of pressure from the public/fans.
In Dabo's mind, winning the ACC and making the CFP are reasons to support his way of doing things. He won't consider the fact that we continue to be far from an elite football program these days.

Wait. Hold up. Just going to state some facts here and ask some questions.
When Brent Venables left the defense was top 5. Goodwin made it 22nd best his first year. He made it 32nd best last year. This year the defense ranks 65th. These stats come from NCAA statistics team defense rankings from: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/22/p2
Since Tyler Grisham took over he hasn’t developed a single receiver to gain 1000 yards or drafted into the NFL. Not even as a free agent. Yes, Amari Rogers had 1000 in Grishams first year but Rogers is a Jeff Scott product.
Clemson has lost 13 games since 2020. That’s more than the previous 10 years. Special teams have become routinely one of the worst of the 130+ teams in D1 football. Clemson leads the nation in blocked kicks allowed.
Dabo has lost to more unranked or lower ranked teams since 2020.
No team except Clemson (2024) has reached the playoffs since 2020 without using the transfer portal.
Dabo lost his best recruits for the 2025 recruiting class because he refuses to bid for players. Clemson’s NIL fund is 17th largest in football. Clemson spends near the bottom. Isn’t that like an NFL team refusing to use free agency?
Are things really good right now? Is Clemson one of the 12 best teams in the country? Is the defense improving every week? How many teams have rushed for over 200 yards in 2024 against Clemson? How many ranked teams has Clemson beat this year? Is Clemson feared as it was prior to 2020? Do you believe this staff and players are the best in the country? Do you believe Wes Goodwin could be a defensive coordinator at Georgia State? Whose opinion do these facts and questions support? Would YOU hire Goodwin as your coordinator?!
Again, no opinion inserted. Verifiable facts only.
All that said, here’s my opinion: Dabo needs to fire about 6-8 position coaches and coordinators to make Clemson the team Dabo made us expect it to be. I believe Dabo has earned a lifetime job as head coach. I also believe if he doesn’t evolve, Clemson football will continue to slide statistically, in wins, and sellout crowds.
I don’t understand why people confuse questioning Dabo and pointing out issues as not being a true fan. Fan. Short for fanatic. Fanatic: an unreasonable support or love for a team or person/people. We are fanatics. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Discuss the differences instead of name calling. I cite the guy asking if JK bumped his head. That’s the stuff that’s uncalled for.
Imagine if no one complained about Hatfield or Bowden! They’d still be here and nothing would have changed. When fans start grumbling it gains attention. When fans and boosters withhold money it makes the AD pay attention. When the AD pays attention things start changing.
Yes, Dabo is being stubborn. He refuses to change and adapt and the on field product has diminished. If you can’t see it you’re blind aka a sunshine pumper. No one can claim Clemson football is better today than it was in 2020. No one. How can you feel good about our chances in Texas? We haven’t played four quarters of complimentary football. Anything short of that and the Texas game will be as bad or worse than UGA game this year.
Keep your receipts. Call me out if I am wrong. The first six paragraphs can’t be questioned because they’re verifiable stats. One can infer from those facts my opinion isn’t far off. Take the orange colored glasses off for a minute and you’ll realize we’ve struggled against teams we should be blowing out. Pitt, Louisville, and South Carolina. The coach is Shane Beamer for crying out loud!!! He’s won two in a row in OUR house!!!

Regardless, I'm glad you can see that Dabo is stubborn and proud. He wasn't always that way. Perhaps his elite success last decade and record-setting contracts have affected him.
In addition, you're incorrect about Dabo refusing to change things because of fan pressure. He has said multiple times that he's going to do things his way despite criticism. That includes fans.
Regarding our status as a once elite program, I haven't once heard Dabo say that we aren't elite anymore. In fact, he continues talking about how we are one of the best programs in the country, and he often follows that up with his stats such as number of wins over x number of years, how many playoffs we've been to, etc. He's a master at using data from last decade and weaving it into his current narrative.
Again, you eat this stuff up hook, line, and sinker - because you're in the Dabo cult. You don't know any other way. Sad.

I agree that Dabo has shown he’ll make changes but I think you’re misconstruing what Judge is saying.
The Luke hire last season came off of what was a “down” year.
Dabo didn’t have a conference title or CFP berth to hang his hat on.
What judge is saying is that with the postseason success Clemson has now, it gives Dabo the ammunition to not make any changes. Which I agree with, I was thinking it myself.
At the end of the day, I think he still moves in from Goodwin for a more experienced, proven DC.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t though, for all the reasons Judge laid out.

Guys like JK have to say this now because they have hung their hat on the “downward trend” of the last few years. A lot of what they want to see happen would be easier to justify if the results continue to decline each year. Winning the ACC and making the playoffs may not reverse the trend but it certainly points more in the right direction. It also makes the ground they spew their opinions from a little more shaky than it would have been if their predictions of further decline had happened. The more we win, the less solid their position becomes. So he’s already back to calling anyone who still supports Dabo a cultist. He doesn’t see where anyone can support Dabo and also believe that improvements are needed. After all, his salary automatically dictates that we must finish in the top 3 every year. Did I do that right?

Supporting Dabo does not equal a Dabo cultist.
I'd like to think that everyone here supports Dabo, because he's our coach.
Dabo cultists are not merely supporters. Rather, they have him on a pedestal and are incapable of being objective about him and his decisions. They defend him on everything, and dismiss anyone who does not agree as a "Dabo hater," a coot, or having "Dabo derangement syndrome."
Our program is on a downward trend. The last four years are in sharp contrast to the six years which preceded them. Winning percentage is down, quality wins are down, and recruiting has suffered.
Our most recent recruiting class is ranked lower than previous ones. This year, we did not beat a single ranked team in the regular season. Thankfully, we beat a top 10 SMU team in the ACC championship, which was GREAT! That does not change the reality that we are not having nearly the level of success on the field or in recruiting that we use to have.
If not for an expanded playoff with an automatic bid, we wouldn't be in the playoffs this year. That's the reality.
Will we enjoy the fact that we are in the playoffs? Absolutely! It will be fun, for sure. I am hopeful we will beat Texas and go on a nice run. But if we are being honest, our team this year hasn't shown the ability to play consistent football nor have they given us optimism that we are on our way back to being an elite program.

This is all bogus. You have called me a cultist MANY TIMES. Yet I have commented many times over the last few years about the issues on our team and I have commented on our inconsistent play this year as recently as last week going into the ACCCG. My comments are realistic but also supportive. That is the response from you when you don’t have anything of substance to defend your position. You manipulate data and exaggerate to support your position. Your criticism here of the 25 recruiting class is skewed as well. The number of recruits in this class makes the comparison to previous years invalid but you continue to harp on it. Nevermind that this is because we have a very young team and solid core going into next year and the numbers just aren’t there for a big recruiting class. Just spit out numbers like venom because they fit your agenda.
And your comments don’t support Dabo. Most are exactly the opposite. Just like the original post in this thread. It is obviously critical. I’m not saying you can’t be critical of the man or his decisions. You are entitled to your opinion. Just own it instead of lying and saying you support him.

The season isn’t over and the offseason isn’t upon us yet. If we get west Virginia’d by Texas the way many of the doom crowd thinks I’d bet you see some changes. It would be uncharacteristic in fact of Dabo if you did NOT see them in such circumstances.
Whereas if we do go on a run deep into the playoffs the need to make drastic changes wouldn’t seem necessary.

What is also not up for debate is the fact that we are only in the playoffs because we received an automatic bid.
This means that we are not one of the best 12 teams in college football. That's troubling to me, and it should be troubling to anyone who cares about Clemson football since the goal is to compete for national championships.

We beat the #8 team. Who is now the #10 team. Lost to two other ranked above us. So unless we play the other 10 there isn't a way to know we are not one of the 12 best teams. We are in the playoffs. By the rules of the playoffs.
If we beat Texas would we not be considered one of the 12 best teams?

It's amazing the difference 29 seconds can make. It's sad that it became necessary to require that difference to be made. When I played golf yesterday, at least 8 of my friends said they turned the game off and went to bed at half. It was over. But wait, it wasn't over because our defense folded like a cheap suit. If you guys are happy with that and having to have Randall, an offensive play and the kicker bail us all out then so be it. I hope y'all have really deep pockets and the ability to financially sustain a football program if some changes are not made this off season.

I agree with about 30-40% of what you said.
Scott would best serve as WR Coach and Head Recruiter. He's proven in that capacity and was out of his element at other positions, like OC (yeah, talent overcame crap play calling), and HC (don't expect any protests on that one). Unfortunately, Grisham hasn't really proven it yet IMO, and that's an area that we've struggled with.
Not having a dedicated S/T Coach has always been a mistake, supported by past real-world examples. Puzzling that a leader, and one who's smart, would consistently drop the ball on managing this one.
I think Luke needs to stay right where he is with the OL - don't dilute his focus - OL is the all-important first domino that you don't want to topple.
Not sure about Boulware and Tajh - neither is proven in that capacity - we can't keep a largely unproven staff that is paid in the very top tier of football and expect to compete on the same level with similarly paid experienced staffs.
As far as other possible considerations...
I do think that Wes is a better analyst than coordinator, so I'd consider bringing in a top-tier, proven DC, and making a move there.
As mentioned above, same with Grisham (Scott solves that).
Really not sure about Spiller at RB Coach either - can't understand how we've managed those guys in games when personnel changes or more platooning was needed.

I'm not sure I understand why everyone hates on Grisham. Do we think he had nothing to do with bringing in our 2 best true freshman WR's since Amari Rogers and Tee Higgns? I don't see a lot wrong with our WR room with Wesco, Moore, Williams, Turner, and Brown if he gets healthy for next year.

I’m going to keep hope alive that Dabo is smart enough to know that there are some changes needed. If you look at the games we lost this year…we were outcoached. The latter parts of those games revealed a lack of ability to adjust, relative to whom we were playing. Same thing happened in the ACCCG. We get killed in the second half. Look at the field goal team blocking issues all year… it’s embarrassing. I love my Tigers but I want to see a well coached team…not to be embarrassed.
I’ll reserve judgment on recruiting and portal usage until after I see how next years class pans out. I have a feeling there’ll be adjustments there.

Given the way we fund our program, winning the weakest power 4 conference to get an automatic bid to the CFP isn't good enough.
Our program is on a four year decline. Recruiting is suffering. This year, we have a losing record against ranked teams. We have unqualified coaches at key positions. We play undisciplined football.
I am thrilled that we won the ACC, and are in the CFP. I hope we make a nice run. But I don't see that happening. Regardless, we have issues with our program that shouldn't be swept under the rug just because Dabo brings up wins from 5 years ago or lectures us on appreciation vs. expectation.
Yes, we would've been thrilled with a season like this when Tommy West was our coach. But this isn't the 90s. This is a new era of college football, where the money is bigger and the stakes are higher. Moreover, we support our program like an elite one now, and we have somewhat recent success to prove that it's possible here. I refuse to be satisfied with the product on the field recently just because we won a weak conference and got an automatic bid to an expanded playoff.
Will I enjoy it? Absolutely! But that doesn't change the issues we have.

The rest of your poast is so loaded with opinion and conjecture it's difficult to wade through.
The fact is the well-heeled football program has again captured that which consistently eludes the well-heeled basketball program.
They may not have done it in dominant fashion. But they did it.
But I reckon if the basketball team managed to win the ACC on a buzzer beater after having lost in the regular season to say, Morehead State, you'd be first in line to claim all praise, glory and honor to Brownell and the staff for assembling a winning team, despite all the noise and obstacles.
Just a gut feeling.

He seems to be coming around on the NIL approach, and he’s going to need to. Also, I think our roster challenges will force his hand on the portal. And he made coaching changes last year when many on here (probably you too) claimed nothing would change. So not sure it’s a forgone conclusion that he cant/wont adapt. Personally, I think Wes gets one more year. If defense doesn’t improve, he’s gone.

The number of defensive de-commits we had this year will be a factor.
It's true that one reason they left was more money but there was an undercurrent from opposing recruiters that our coaching is not up to par. Lack of fundamentals on the field through the season did nothing to contradict that.
When all is said and done, I won't be surprised to see as many as 3 new defensive coaches next season.
This is just my opinion. I'm not placing any bets

The new CFB can not sustain itself! Unless changes are made from the current wild wild west approach where High School kids with agents have all the control and every kid that thinks He is the best can transfer at will is Changed then college sports are over!

But it isn't a prior era. Dabo needs to adapt or we will continue to see our program decline.
No one is advocating for him to cheat, we just want him to fully utilize all of his resources like 99% of programs are doing.

I'm thrilled that we beat SMU, won another ACC championship, and are going to the playoffs. I've posted many times about it.
Texas will be a challenge, but as I've also posted multiple times, I think they are beatable. I wanted Texas or Penn State, as I believe both are overrated.
Not really sure what that has to do with also being able to look forward in time and think about the offseason.

Does he need to? How many ACC championships has he won now? What if in this anything is possible world Clemson beats Texas? What if we happen to make a deep run into the CFP (unlikely but possible). What if we become that Cinderella team the makes the title game? Should he still fire half the staff?
Chances are the you'll still be the negative whiny beeotch that you all known for on this site no matter what they do.
Being happy instead of negative all the time is a really easy choice to make. You should try that out.
Try going for a month and be a thoughtfull and sincere sunshine pumper on purpose. Accentuate the positive. It will make a world of difference for you.

You seem to be reading way too much into my post.
First of all, I'm very happy about winning the ACC and making the playoffs. I'm excited to play Texas and have a chance to advance. I've made multiple posts about it.
Second, my excitement about our football weekend has nothing to do with the fact that I am also able to cognitively multi-task and think ahead to the offseason. You know, there have been a ton of posts here the last few months with people wanting Riley, Goodwin, etc. fired. Based on that, I was thinking about our offseason and what I expect to happen. My conclusion is that Dabo will not make any notable changes.
Third, I don't think Dabo's previous ACC championships, won last decade in a different era of college football, should really matter much when evaluating our current program. That's especially true of the last four years.
Dabo will continue to cherry pick data and accomplishments to support his narrative, which is precisely why I don't think he will make any notable changes this offseason. Many of you will continue to eat it up.
The question remains: do we want to be an elite football program or not? If we do, what we are doing right now isn't working. If we don't, then let's stop the charade.

I am very happy to win the ACC and please explain just how being in the playoffs is “not being a factor nationally”. But to answer your question, regarding Clemson football, I have been very happy at times this season and disappointed at other times.
I don’t have goals for our football program. I have goals for things within my control that directly affect me and my life. Same goes for “expectations “. I am a huge fan and an alumni and I hope for the best for all everything Clemson. Always.

I disagree , not as much on the portal bc if you look into this team we don’t lose a lot except Carter, mickens, maybe one or two I’m forgetting about … offensively we have the entire offense coming back. I do think he will try to grab some depth at maybe DE/LB but rightfully so I think he’s happy with the returning team next year unless unforeseen transfers happen.
I also am not sold he doesn’t move goodwin into a diff role or maybe hire a new co- def coordinator bc recruiting there on top of the aggressiveness has continued downward as a whole. Riley is showing signs of putting it together , we move the ball fine we just need to be more creative scoring and I saw more of that sat agaisnt smu.

This is a good take. Remember, this is just year 2 for Riley and his offense. With all the returning players, one can reasonably expect the offense to continue to improve. And we are very young on defense. Next year will be year 3 for Parker, Woods and Terrell and Brown is only going to be a sophomore. Kinda hard to predict a further decline from where I’m sitting. Grabbing a couple of players at key spots on the defense (DE) makes a lot of sense and I’m thinking Goodwin’s return is probably 50/50 at this point.

Nah, I don't think JK really thinks that a display of outdated fashion really spills over into general judgement. Or does it? Is it evidence supporting the goody two-shoe, boy scout leadership culture and why we don't do certain things that every other program in the nation is doing without consequence? Why are so many people thumbing this post down? JK is right. The chance that Dabo makes any meaningful coaching changes is very very small
I would like to see Riley fired and replaced with an up tempo type OC or have Dabo talk Jeff Scott into coming back but I don't believe that's actually going to happen.
There may be some changes on special teams but that's probably it

As much as many of us want to see changes, he will point to the playoff appearance and the ACCCG as reasons why he is correct and justified in his staff and roster management. I want a couple coaches fired, idc pick 2 or 3, and I want a handful of depth type transfers brought in - preferably a kid or two that we recruited in High school as well.
Dabo has the right to keep doing it his way though, nobody close to him will say otherwise. He's 9-6 all time against SC, the team does not pass the eye test since about 2020, and we have seen quite a disturbing trend in recruiting/retention.

Not all of us. Sounds like you are preparing yourself because you are going to be so disappointed if that happens.
My preparation will be to buy a new long sleeve Clemson shirt to wear to these cold December games that we seem to keep playing in. But I guess if you don’t go support the Tigers, you need to prepare yourself some other way.

Actually Dabo has given Rumph, the green light to go out and get a DE in the portal. I think we will see no less than 3 portal takes this year and it won't be of the graduate QB variety.

Don’t see how Dabo can be happy with Defensive schemes, particularly in the second half of games. Same with offense’s inability to close. If he sticks with Wes and Riley, this has to be addressed somehow.

Dabo will eventually have to get a new Defensive Coordinator. Weak tackling, a lack of confidence, the lack of physicality, fierceness and the lack of agression will come back to haunt Clemson if Goodwin is not gone. It will catch up and the screams of pressure will come back. You have to have some form of ability to shut teams down when the game is on the line, and it's just too easy beat the Tigers if it's 2 minutes to go with a 3 point lead. He (Goodwin) simply can't put together a scheme or adjustment to stop opposing teams late in the game. You can't be forced to win a game by scoring 35-40 a game. The defense has to support the offense. This is the move Swinney has to make for the future, and not make excuses for him.

there are big repercussions on D late for all those 3 and outs. The more you put up the less likely the opponent is going to match that - fewer possession, fewer snaps for the opponent and your D benefits from that. Teams are not going to be as deep in this era of free agency.

Whatever Dabo decides to do in the off-season, has my support. He knows his staff better than either of us. He has shown a willingness to change staff over his tenure, ask Steele or Streeter if you don’t agree with me.
