between the look on Dorens face and a few articles I read, I have to wonder if their defeat sees them having been broken with a sense of nothing left to play for.

1992 Clemson FSU

Prime time, ESPN at our house, I think FSU was #5 and we were like 15. We were going to show them and the world, that FSU was not going to come in and dominate, their first year in our conference. 3rd game of the season I believe. This was marked on everyone's calendar not just FSU and Clem.
We came out amped up, looking for blood. Started off strong. Then the emotion and energy died down. Charlie Ward got the jitters out and started clicking. We lost. Our boys wanted that game so bad for so long they put everything they had into that 1 game.
That roster had unbelievable talent...nfl talent. But after that game they imploded. They never came close to reaching their potential. Starting QB quits, looker room was splitting. They finished 5-6. That game IMO, is the exact moment our program fell. That season dictated the next 20+ years of Clemson football.
NCST better pray that they do not go the same way

Brian Dawkins was a freshman and they had Brentson Buckner. I'm sure there were some late round draft picks on the squad, but that wasn't a loaded roster.

We lost that game when FSU took the lead 24-20 with about 2 minutes left. True we finished 5-6 but I don’t recall the energy level dying down for that particular game.

We also went through 3 qb's in '92 due to injuries.

And had a 28 pt comeback against ranked UVa and beat the doors off of a ranked UNC team.
That year was an enigma. A highly capable team with no consistency at all.

they pretty much have to win out in conference to have a remote shot at the division (and us lose twice). Problem is if they do beat FSU this weekend then I think that "breaks" FSU, which is not in NCstate's best interest since Clemson AT FSU is Clemson's "best/last chance" to lose in conference from here on out b/c nobody on Clemson's home schedule "should" beat us.
That being said if NC State thinks they're "too good" for an 11-1 record and have "nothing to play for" then they don't understand their history.

I don’t think SOS is going to matter. We pretty much have to win out to make the playoff, regardless of our SOS. If we have a loss, we won’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Interesting question. I thought the same might be the case for Wake, but they went on the road and beat a pretty decent FSU team. My answer is we shall see Saturday.

Awesome regrouping from Wake after their heartbreak OT loss to us to turn around and take it to FSU on the road following. I just don't see that same type of backbone in Raleigh.

That is called coaching. Clawson can coach.
Give Doeren credit. He is 3-4 after loosing to Clemson in the following games. We often beat teams twice more often than not. With two wins against Western Mich and Boston College (twice) - they are good at getting 3-4 W teams following us for some reason. . Granted that 2016 OT loss resulted in a 41 point blowout loss. Ironically, they have also given up over 50 points twice in that same span to the next team.

Yeah, but seeing as how they were top 10, in a position to take the reins in the ACC with a potential CFP berth in view, and had a lead at one point only to have it fade away from there on out like it did - this has implosion all over it.
