A lot of smoke about Manny Diaz to Duke...

On Duke Insider Sites and Twitter. Looks like might be wrapping up by later today or tomorrow. I think would be a decent hire for Duke. Diaz was treated bad by Miami after already hiring Cristolbal before he was even let go. Going 21-15 there overall had a lot better record than Cristolbal so far too without a big booster and NIL $ influence like now. Diaz has done a good job at Penn State as DC the last two seasons.

He was an assistant at Miami. Took the HC job at Rutgers. Within 24 hours after being on campus (I think it was closer to 4 or 5) and introduced as the HC he quit and returned to Miami when he was offered the HC job.
I've talked to a few HS coaches who have met him at coaching clinics. No need to go into detail, since they are 2nd hand stories and purely anecdotal, but I stand by my statement. He's a jerk. He would have less loyalty to Duke Caleb Williams has to USC.

You mean Temple not Rutgers. Duke's AD seems pretty classy so don't think she is going to go in a direction where a guy would leave overnight without saying good bye like Elko did.
I mean you look at the Covid year for Diaz in the three years there, Miami was like turning three very close last second loses around from having a 10 win season his last year. I think without have to worring about the Miami Circus distractions, Diaz could focus and do a good job at Duke.

Just curious, but how could the Duke AD stop a jerk from being a jerk, and

I have never understood all the Manny Diaz love. Don't know anything about him personally but his defenses have always stunk when he was DC. This won't end well IMO...

leaving Temple two weeks after being offered a head coaching job at Miami. I mean anyone...and certainly not a guy who was born in Miami.

Does he "feel" like a Duke guy though? I mean, looking back, was Spurrier? Maybe there isn't a Duke type when it comes to football. I wouldn't have guessed Elko a couple of years ago either.

Well, Miami is a smaller private university like Duke. So navigating those type

Never thought he was all that special at Miami and bretfsu is right about the stunt he pulled on Temple.
He may be on of those guys that's a better coordinator than head coach but if Duke hires him he'll probably have 4 full years to prove his head coaching chops. I just pity the Duke team that comes to the valley in 2025 (assuming we are still in the ACC) - they are in for some payback.

Manny just isn't HC material. From his time as DC at UT, his U-turn in Miami and failure as HC.
At best, the guy is a decent DC. Some people just aren't meant for the top job. Second in command is their peak. Manny Diaz is one of them.
RIP Duke football turnaround.
