Defensive Reserves-Depth a Concern?

My concern with the 2nd and 3rd string Defense is not that Dabo is putting them out there too soon or anything, I think he is making the smart decision in protecting the lineup and getting the young guys reps. I don’t really care about “style points” and if we tried to beat everyone 70-0 and key players got hurt in garbage time, everyone would be mad at Dabo.
The problem is that the reserves often play and look terrible. I don’t expect them to play anywhere close to the tier of the 1st team but it seems like they just get scored on at will. Twice already they have given up 3 touchdowns in a quarter that is not really acceptable for any defense!
Do we have depth issues on Defense or this overblown ?

Gee whiz your third and 4th string is not going to be as sharp as your starters...some of those kids completely missed assignments!

And that is why we play them now when it doesn't matter. They are getting reps and film to critique. They will be better down the road when it matters.

The reserves aren't that good, take a close look at depth chart. Too many misses and players portalling out.

“Functional” depth isn’t there anymore like we became accustomed to seeing. Disappointing, and concerning for the future. But I think it’s the new world we live in as Clemson fans.

I remember our 2nd and 3rd team getting waxed by USC Jr in 2018. I also remember driving down to and partying down NOLA for the championship game that same postseason.
I like these kinds of problems.

The problem is extreme at LB and DE. Just watch 10 minutes of film and you will see that a DE at 6'2" and 240 (playing weight, not the weigh in) is going to be a big liability. Someone seems to want to prove a point that they will develop and be functional. It's not working. Got to be a better option than this. Denhoff isn't great but he's not being manhandled. This is similar (but worse) than the Davis brothers situation and the Logan Rudolph fiasco. 1 sack in in 3 years and he started against LSU in the natty. It's embarrassing to watch at times. The depth issue has become actute this year.

Does any team have functional depth these days? You don’t notice as much with other teams as they don’t play as many players as Dabo.

Most don't. UGA has plenty at almost every position.

The result of a $20M NIL budget

Don't know why you DF's can't understand this. The 1st time these guys see snaps SHOULD NOT BE when we need them because of injury ,or attrition.
Stupid Azzzzz people, too IGNORANT to understands what's really happening.ALSO, so STUPID they hit enter on the keyboard and SHOW their IGNORANCE, crying over the point spread.
You people really don't matter any longer.

Pulling Team A and putting in Team B does expose some weaknesses. But is that the way we’ll use those 2nd teamers in a close game? Of course not. We’ll substitute strategically not wholesale. And those subs will know prior to the game that they’ll be getting minutes. Occasional lapses? Of course! Collapse? No!

I have no problem playing most back ups - that’s how you build functional depth. ( I don’t really care to see a kid who is 4th string until the last series of the game). My point about functional depth is really NIL related. It’s a problem throughout college football but our $30 million dollar deficit due to being in the ACC means IPTAY has to overcome the gap to keep salaries and facilities on par and then IPTAY has to find NIL opportunities. It’s tough for a school/alumni base our size. Not what we became accustomed to during our huge run - pre-NIL. Just the world we live in today. I’m a happy camper but I miss being dominant. lol.
