Defense practicing the triple option

It is hard to say how the defense will be this year with the situations the offense has put them in but I know when Paul Johnson was around we would dedicate practice time in the off season for the triple option. I know defending it required discipline for everyone to play their gaps. I wonder if we do something similar still.

I don't know the answer, but I would guess we spend a little time on it during Fall camp since practice for defending the triple option is good for teaching discipline. But once we get into the season, I doubt we waste any time on it unless our opponent is known to run triple option plays.

There is likely plenty of option discipline instruction during the season concentated on read option plays that also requires discipline - particularly by the DEs.

I was always amazed how other teams like VT for instance with their Defensive coordinator at the time would have issues but our Defense would shut it down every time. Just wondering if the practice and dedication to stay in your gaps just carried over through out the season. The last few years seems like we were still talented but would often be in the wrong place or over pursuing. Just a thought. Nothing more to it.
