Deer Bama Fans,

Jan 3, 2016, 3:36 PM

As I usually do before games, I was checking out the sports board of our next opponent. In this case, it was tidefans. I read a discouraging post on here about how Bama fans were expecting a better class of fan from Clemson. Make no mistake, our fans are some of the best you will ever meet. One of the biggest problems we are facing right now is, as the #1 team in the nation, we have picked up many of the fair-weather fans who have hitched their bandwagon to our team recently. We will talk some smack, but mostly in good fun. I am sure that you, as Bama fans, know all about this, as many fans claim to be Bama fans whenever their team isn’t doing that great (I’m looking at you SC fans, along with nearly every other team in the SEC). Most of the Bama grads and true fans I’ve ever met have mostly been good people, but I’ve also met “Bama fans” who were extremely rude and ignorant, not even being able to name your rivals or current coach. These are the fans who have started dawning the Paw without understanding anything it stands for.

Also, please note that much of the detest coming from our side is not at you, really, it is largely ESPN, their pundits, and their disrespect for our team, and those on your side who buy into what they are saying. For those of you who truly believe you are going to roll us, you are in for a rude awakening. If you believe our quarterback is a statue like MSU’s, you couldn’t be more wrong. If you believe our quarterback is just a running back like OU’s team thought, you are also wrong. He is honestly the best player in the nation (the only argument I could think of anyone making for another player is McCaffrey).

Let’s also clear the air some more. Henry had no business winning the Heisman. Not only is he not the best player in the nation, from what I’ve seen of the 3 games I’ve watched (Auburn, Florida, and MSU), he isn’t even the best player on your team. The guy you have on special teams and defense, Jones is his name I think, is the best player I’ve seen on your team. I do not see Henry as much of a threat, but Jones is a special player.

I, personally, have a lot of respect for your team, but I believe fully in our team’s ability to beat your team. Your quarterback telegraphs. Henry CAN break lose, but he can just as easily go down in the backfield if you’re up against quality competition. Your defense has a problem with being spread. Clemson is going to be the first team you’ve faced all year that will be in at least the same, if not better, shape than your players. That is a big reason we haven’t trailed in the 4th all season. Expect the kitchen sink when we play you and your defense to look confused throughout the game.

See you on the field,
The Clemson Family

Channeling the Harrison Ford movie, "Regarding Henry "...

I agree Watson and Mccaffrey are great players. Think it was a year with 3 guys who would have been Heisman winners in many other years.

But I must say Henry broke SEC records of Herscel and Bo. And did so with his most meager stat days being against our lesser foes, games where other programs would have allowed a lot of stat padding. I am not a big Heisman guy, but of course am glad King Henry won. And more glad of the class and team first attitude that is part of his DNA.

And you are right, Cyrus had a great year for us

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Deer Bama Fans,

Jan 3, 2016, 3:56 PM

Consider this....Watson touches the ball EVERY play. He has to make the decision on the read/option. He has to get the ball to the play makers. He has to read the defense and has to know where everyone is. Henry just does what he is told and runs the ball. That doesnt make him most valuable, it just makes him the best RB. Course, cant tell anyone in the $ec that. Its BS if you ask me.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the Heisman trophy was a career award, then sure

Jan 3, 2016, 4:03 PM [ in reply to Re: Deer Bama Fans, ]

but it is not. And I kept hearing about the career records he broke as substantiating why he should win; more eSECpn garbage. Bama gets a lot handed to them because of espn, and if you do not think so, then you are blind.

It has been my experience that band wagon types are oft rude, boorish and over the top.

Meanwhile, the guys that show up just as dedicated in the tough times, in seasons where you KNOW going in there won't be many nuts for the squirrel - well those types are usually reasoned, respectfully, and top-notch

This however seems seems to reek of presuppositions and some kind of coot/tiger logic that quite frankly does not mix well. They are on our radar roughly to the extent and significance that Monaco has to NORAD.

Frankly, when The SEC expanded in 1992, I was hoping for Clemson and UNC, or FSU. Adding usce and Arkansas was like a career welfare momma birthing twins to create a bigger check. At least Arky had the Nolan Richardson running razorbacks, but even that soon went away.

In a combined 46 years of membership, neither the hogs or coots as you call them have won an SEC Football title.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why would there be coot trolls posing as Bama fans?

Jan 3, 2016, 5:42 PM [ in reply to Why? The rest of the SEC hates their guts!... ]

Because they have been Bama fans as soon as their season went downhill, the same way it is every year. If you're asking why they have my respect, they've built and rebuilt a great program 3 times over. Additionally, and more importantly to me, Frank Howard, Danny Ford, and Dabo all came from Bama.

this board will act like the classy adults that most Clemson fans are. Alabama has some redneck fans like some Clemson fans on this board. I live in Alabama and I would categorize most as being good fans. If you want to say they are overconfident, cocky, and unrealistic about the capabilities of teams outside the SEC, that would be a legitimate criticism. When we win three National Championships in a few years (5-7 years?), we will have earned the right to be overconfident also.

Re: Deer Bama Fans,

Jan 3, 2016, 5:45 PM

Everyone has bad fans with no class and its sad to have to weed through posters telling me to GFMyself but hey I'm still here from time to time because I love football. Now to the game. I respect your team. Deshaun will be hard to contain. Yes yall do have the players to kick our butts. It's possible to stop Henry and maybe that happens. Saban and Smart are zeroing in on Watson right now as we speak. They want to dominate your OL and hit Watson, get in his face, hurry him, knock down passes, sack him, affect him, break his spirit and do it every play in the game for sixty minutes. That's what they preach. It's true that spread teams give them problems. At the same time they have stopped them before as well. I think this DL has the ability to slow your O down, not give up the big play. You have to go back probably 5 -6 games to find a TD that this D has given up in the red zone. They don't give many rushing TDs. The only one I can think of is Fournettes TD in garbage time. Did you know Bama leads in sacks with 50? What's impressive is that's with a four man rush almost always. I know sacking Cook in the cotton bowl doesn't impress you but we NEVER blitzed him. That's why I am confident Bama will be ready. Bamas Dline will mush rush Watson with four. We will affect him. He'll make a few plays but gaps will be mostly controlled with four, sometime five. Our nickel package is pretty good as well. Fitzpatrick will be coming for Watson on occasion. Our secondary hopefully is draped all over your receivers, drawing the occasional flag is fine. You guys know what Bama wants to do. They want to grind your D into the ground with Henry, play action. You better hope Bama doesn't impose their will on O because no defense can hold up without turnovers. If Bama wins TOs, we definitely have a chance to dominate you guys for sixty minutes.

Hello Clemson Fans! I am a visitor from Tidefans.com, and we welcome visitors from our opponents. I visited a Michigan State fan site and was turned off by the profanity. We don't tolerate that on Tidefans. So expect me to be respectful and, hopefully, informative. Of course I don't expect us to lose this game, and if you visit you will find our fans just as optimistic and confident as you folks are on here. I have read a few posts and I'll make a few comments. For one, if your coaching staff really thinks Bama is one-dimensional, they will be making a mistake. Yes, we have a history this year of running Derrick Henry at our opponents D line until they tire out and he begins to break for fifteen of twenty a pop. I think y'all have to prepare for that or we will try it again with you. OTOH, I think you WILL prepare for that; and so I don't think we will start that way. Next, we see your team as one who expects to run the ball. Your O line is very good, and I have heard Clemson fans say they will wear down our front seven. Just for your information, we don't have a front seven. We have a front eleven. We substitute every time we get a chance, and our guys stay fresh. We haven't lost any 4th quarters either. Then there is your QB, who many on here and other Clemson sites tout as the best QB, sometimes the best FB player in the nation. I have no problem with either of those assessments. He is something very special, and I understand that if we don't make plans for him you will beat us. I'm not coaching the game, so I don't know for sure if we will put a spy on him; If I WERE coaching the game, I would do so. That will necessarily leave us one short in our pass coverage, and I expect him to take advantage of that. Still, I really do doubt that you can run effectively against our D line. Nobody has all year. If you can't, you will have to beat our secondary to win. WE, of course, find ourselves in precisely the same situation; and your QB is better than ours. (But ours is no slouch). I expect this to be a good game, no shutouts on either side, still in doubt entering the fourth quarter. The one advantage we have that I haven't mentioned is that our coach is better than yours...

the backups won't see much playing time. Our O can handle a 6 minute drive without a break. BTW, if you put all 11 on the field we'll wear them all out at one time. We haven't gone real hurry up much lately. We did a little early this season and do it just often enough to keep in touch with our roots.

If you study film early film and think that helps you might want to consider that DW was coming off a full ACL/MCL reconstruction this year. He's better now as you can see. Your problem is that you haven't seen him run the HUNH more than one or two plays in a few drives per game.

I appreciate that you've come here with civility but I insist that we've seen all you have because your coach and team are showboats just like OU. You blew MSU out of the water just like OU treated their in state rivals. You haven't seen our best and neither have we.

Re: Deer Bama Fans,

Jan 3, 2016, 10:21 PM

Clemson-Alumnus I want to address every one of your point in our friendly debate......

Henry has no business winning the Heisman Trophy?? The voters for the Heisman Trophy thought differently. I suggest you write each and every one of them a letter and take it up with them. Im willing to place a wager that Henry rushes for at least 150 yards against Clemson. Clemson gives up an average of nearly 145 yards.gm. Round of drinks on the loser of the bet assuming you'll be in Phoenix.

Any team can beat another team on any given day. As far as Coker "telegraphing" he isn't a great QB, but he is very efficient. MSU stacked the box to shut down Henry and Coker went 25/30 for nearly 300 yards. Not bad IMO. Bama runs a very balanced offense.

I think you're just following the media hype when you say Bama has a problem with being spread. Bama has faced three spread offenses this year. MTSU, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss. I invite you to go back and look at the stats of those games and report back to me.

As far as out defense looking confused throughout the game you don't get to be the #2 defense in the country by being confused. The missing piece of the puzzle is CLEMSON'S DEFENSE. Clemson's rush defense is #18 while Bama's is #1. Bama is #2 in total defense while Clemson is #6, but A LOT of teams scored A LOT of points on Clemson. Thats where the difference will be in my opinion.
