coaching the lady coot hoopsters. NBA coaches make a lot more than that. If she is truly a great pure basketball coach, why wouldn’t an NBA team give her a chance, considering her proven dominance at the collegiate level?

Dawn has top to bottom her best team this year. Kim Mulkey outcoached Dawn last year in the tournament. This is not only my opinion but, also the opinion of my chicken family members.

I forgot to mention that Dawn and Kim did not coach head to head but, in how they played Iowa with Caitlyn Clark. Kim put on a master class.

I don't have to like her to be honest about her in a positive way, she is a very good women's basketball coach, no doubt she is one of the top 3 in the country. Now do I, or have I ever wished she was the Clemson lady coach, absolutely not!!!

She's a horrible person. She canceled her team's game at BYU because of imaginary hollering at a volleyball game. I'm sure the game being in Utah had NOTHING to do with it. LOL.

I don’t think your question was a sincere one. But here is my answer. NBA teams do not want a female head coach in their ranks. There are a handful of assistants out there so perhaps one day there will be one.
She is at the top of her game. Wi can’t see why she would jump to the NBA to take an assistant job with the likelihood of never getting a chance to be a head coach.
So my reasons: NBA doesn’t want a woman head coach AND makes no sense professionally for her to take an assistant gif.
You didn’t affirm she was a great head coach - you said “if she is a great head coach….”
So why do you think she is not in the NBA Fying Tiger?

Just amazing how they averaged over 13,000, full house attendance last year, but that's what winning programs will do for you. Have had several Gamecock friends say they will attend the womens' over the mens' games, primarily due to the excitement of the games and crowds...something I'd love to see at Clemson.

Fame? Fame in women's basketball is not worth much and it is certainly fleeting and usually leaves nothing behind when it fades.
I remember well when Louisiana Tech was a powerhouse in women's basketball. They sold a lot of tickets and won some national titles. Everyone remembers Pat Summit and her run with Tennessee at the top of women's basketball. And of course no one comes close to the long run at the top of that sport by Connecticut. I think the girls from Connecticut won 10 or 11 National Titles.
Still, women's basketball is a minor sport that gets very little attention and brings in very little money nationally. Most name big time schools average attendance at a women's BB game is only two or three thousand fans. Despite reams of national promotion, the politically correct leanings of the left and everyone's love of their Moms, sisters, daughters and women in general, no one cares much for or about women's college basketball. You can root and cheer for women's basketball all you want, but not many people buy tickets, watch the games on TV or give much of a hoot about it.
It makes perfect sense that the University of South Carolina would choose to make women's basketball their best sport.

It's worth plenty to those that care about it- and there are plenty that do.
A quality matchup for a women's bball game will have 6-7,000 people in the stands at a minimum. That's more than most every sport at a university outside of football and men's basketball and rivals baseball at most schools.
Louisiana Tech was a power before women's games were even televised on any sort of regular basis. Every top women's game now is televised. Totally different world now.
If Tech is your example of fleeting prestige, you could say the same thing about football Army as examples of a team that was once strong- but isn't any more. That's sports.
Plus, if your school has the sport, it makes no sense not to give it your best and try to win as much as you can or at least compete as hard as you can.
if certain people don't like it, that's irrelevant.

When you are talking about Gamecock sports, they have accepted losing as a way to have fun. They will pack William Brice with a 4-7 record, BUT, throwing batteries and empty liquor bottles is a big thing in cootlumbia!!!

context of what collegiate (and any level school) athletics means to a university. You can not care about women's basketball, or sports in general, as it's your prerogative but to outwardly dismiss it because of your narrow opinion of what matters is weakness.
And you kind of disprove the fleeting fame in comment thing as you do remember some greats in the sport, to which USC women's basketball is starting to become over time.

If that had any truth to it, it would have been widely reported to add glorification to Staley and the USUC basketball program. The Headline Would Be, Dawn Staley has turned down a WMBA job to stay with lady gamecock basketball program that she built in Cootlumbia South Carolina. I can hear Dawn saying I love my girls hear at USUC more than the extra money they were offering in the WMBA!!! Then later on we would hear that USUC gave Staley a big raise to stay!!!

If not the coach? Are they spending all of that SEC $$ on players?
I don’t spend an hour a year thinking about women’s hoops, but I hate watching any program at SCAR have huge success.
I think this post exhausts my hour for 2023.

And before someone goes all women’s lib on me…the locker room of any professional men’s sport is full of naked swinging penises and all sorts of crude manly things. No place for a women.

She will definitely go down as one of the greats in the college game, but fact is that women’s basketball at the college level doesn’t have enough talent to develop a #### strategy beyond “out recruit.” I’m not saying she couldn’t coach in the NBA and be successful, but I would say that there isn’t enough evidence to convince me she is more likely to succeed than fail.
One thing worth considering is that statistically basketball is more about maximizing the effectiveness of one or two great players as opposed to reducing the liability presented by your weakest one or two players. To that end, I would think there would be more viability to college basketball coaches succeeding at the professional level than football. Anybody have any evidence to support or sink that idea?

Regarding coaching ......is he a great coach with great players ........ a good coach with great players ....... or an average coach with great players? I guess it doesn't matter as long as the "great players" part does not change. Certainly she deserves credit for recruiting and bringing the best of the best to SCar. Once they started winning it made bringing other players in much easier. I'm not sure that justifies 3 mil a year, but maybe it does.
Being located in a relatively large city with a large minority population is also helpful regarding attendance and recruiting ...... huge advantage over Clemson.

The talent disparity between teams in women's college hoops is bigger than pretty much any other sport.
Not saying she isn't a great coach because I have no idea, but they have recruited really well and that's all that matters in all but a couple of games a season.

She was a phenomenal player, Olympian, and floor leader. She’s awesome with Xs and Os. Her players will run through a wall for her. The only thing Not to like is she’s a coot. If she stays in place for 15 more years she will own every women’s comment record. Like Saban, you must at least Respect Greatness.
