Dan Patrick reporting this morning

UNC, Duke, UVA, NC State and Syracuse are lined up to go to the BIG 10 IF ND joins and then the SEC would make their move to add us, FSU and Miami---that's 8 schools. That dissolves the ACC and the GOR. I wish the Irish would hurry up and make a move--but they likely won't for a while (meaning 3-5 years).

Well, I guess we’ll have to trade those guaranteed 5 wins a year for coots, Vandy, Kentucky, Mizzou, and whatever other scrub from the SEC east they put on our schedule.

I'll admit I really have no idea what I'm talking about

But that seems like a good bit of dead (or close to dead) weight for the B1G. I think they would be better off just adding ND and one other team for now. Cuse is just gonna dilute the money without adding much to the pot.
And if they want to do that (ND + 1) it would be easier to take Washington, Oregon, etc rather than mess with the ACC GOR.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to get off this sinking ship right now, but I'm just not optimistic that the perfect storm (8+ members all leaving for B1G/SEC) is about to happen.

That would be an awful move by the B1G from a football standpoint. Their overall football competition is not great now, and would get worse. All we keep hearing is how football is all that matters for media rights, so I can't imagine this is accurate.

He's citing it's like a game of Risk, each conference wants to lock down states. The money each school brings in is sort of a moot point, think about how much money Usuck, Mizz, Vandy, Kentucky, Miss state, Rutgers, Maryland, etc bring in--it's not 100+ million each a year, but the media rights and the deals that are coming up will allow them to ask for more. The BIG 10 wants to control the Northeast and northern US states starting at NC, the SEC gets to lock down, completely, SC and Florida, along with the other states they already have locked down, Bama, Miss., Kentucky, Texas, etc.
Not saying I completely understand it all, but this was the named logic behind it.

relevant 10-20 years ago, but maybe not nearly as relevant now. Locking down regions was/is important for cable television. I feel like getting into markets is going to be less and less important as streaming becomes more popular and cable subscribers dwindle. With streaming live sports, all that really matters is the total number of people watching because the big networks aren't trying to sell their content to cable companies.

really matter how good the teams are. The winner will have a seat at the table for championships. Easier avenue for ND and Ohio State on a year to year basis. Sounds like a sweet deal.

^this. That makes absolutely no sense for the B1G. Where is Dan Patrick getting this stuff?
If we're living in a world where someone says the B1G has to grow to 24 schools, they are going to add four from the Pac-12 (Washington, Oregon, Stanford, California), Notre Dame, and three more ACC schools - UNC, UVA, and probably Georgia Tech.
The rumor was probably started by a Syracuse fan!
(The irony here is that Syracuse WAS the plum that the B1G wanted before the ACC made a bold move. But since, they have not lived up to their history or their expectations.)

that conference would not survive which is why the Virginia state legislature stepped in on behalf of VT. They won't sit idly by if the ACC is raided by the BIG and the $EC and leave VT handing by a thread with a snowballs chance in He!! if they don't have a new conference home.

This isn't 2004.
And I'm sure Oklahoma State fans thought the same thing about Oklahoma. And we know California fans thought the same thing about UCLA. Times have changed.
The B1G will say "we want Virginia" and if Virginia wants to say "no" because the B1G has no interest in Virginia Tech, both schools lose out.

about the USC and UCLA moves largely because the moves weren't reviewed and approved by the BOT of those schools. He is are also pretty upset that schools like Stanford and Cal were left out in the cold. Don't be surprised to see the State of California sue the BIG.
He's mostly mad because he wasn't consulted or informed. He heard about it on television.

They're going to be reminded of what happened to Connecticut after they sued the ACC.
Those two schools quit the Pac-12, asked to join the B1G, and were accepted. No screaming is going to stop the move. (I don't think it is crazy to think that Stanford, Cal, Washington, and Oregon could make the move at a later time. But who knows?)
Point being, UVA and VT are no longer joined at the hip.

entities allow Notre Dame to have this kind of power. I say maroon their greedy Ar$e$ on the Independent island they want, without a conference affiliation, AND without any sort of a TV contract.
But, Greed is King. SOMEBODY would throw them a lifeline, just like the ACC stupidly did in the Covid year.

Why is it greed for a school to get as much money as they can if they don’t lose anything (playoff access, etc…) in the process? Clemson would do the same thing if it could.

He never says who the source is for obvious reasons, but it's the same source that told him the BIG 10 and Pac 12 were closing down a week before they announced it, he had it way early. It's seemed to be a pretty good source for CFB.

Virginia Tech would be to SEC also in that case. Otherwise numbers would beheavy for Big Ten. If that's the case, should take West Virginia also to edge right up to Big ten territory. It's also surprising the BIG woild take Syracuse over Pitt as Pitt is AAU. I guess they want the state of New York. So ironic the ACC is considered lower tier, yet the big boys see value in most of our teams.

I am confident that Dan Patrick believes his source, but there are too many possible scenarios being thrown around as "in the works" or a "done deal" for these things to have any credence.
The most likely scenario is that people are just throwing theories out there hoping that theirs sticks, at which point they will claim that they broke the story first.
I could easily see us going to SEC or Big 10, and there are good arguments for either one happening. I still prefer the Big 10, but would absolutely take SEC membership before going down with the ACC's sinking ship.

My guess is the SEC would if they could but breaking the GOR is what would let them step in and take us. Sanjay said yesterday he wasn’t getting in the middle of a GOR mess, but if they could easily they would. This appears to be the “how”.

Sometimes, the worst mouthbreathers, too, will bash other schools and leagues. But the truth is, The ACC was a target source of secret envy for other leagues and fans. They have a lot of solid institutions, championships, and a rich history.
Now it's likely all going to be broken up and destroyed because ###### ESPN treated The ACC like a 2nd rate "branded" Cola product, and gave them a ###### deal all because the conference wanted to start their own network like every other conference.

The GOR are Clemson’s only stumbling block to leave the ACC. That said the best way out (and to remain relevant) is for 8 teams to leave and (if I understand the GOR contract) would then void the deal. I truly believe that Clemson, Miami, UNC, FSU, Va Tech have enough value that they would be desired. Ga Tech, Duke, Pitt have a geographic location that would make them attractive. Those 8 schools should unite (not in a conference together) to void the ridiculous GOR and then find the landing spot that gives them the best chance at success moving forward.

I think to get to eight, the Big 12 needs to be involved also. Could see them giving a home to VT, Louisville, Pitt and Cuse. Maybe even NC State. There aren’t eight schools in the ACC who will expand the slices of the pie for the SEC and B1G.

Either way its going to be 2 major conferences in the near future with a combo of North/West teams in one and South/East teams in another. NFC/AFC like with multiples divisions and playoffs. That's the only direction this can do once they start moving this much.
