Heck, just pick up a phone

There's no doubt Ford would offer all the opinion and advice Swinney could stand.

Coach Ford has already said they won't listen to him. So thats that.

Ford is too considerate to offer unsolicited advice.

Nov 27, 2012, 12:46 PM [ in reply to Heck, just pick up a phone ]

And I believe too humble to give it if offered.

Personally, I like our OL chances under Robbie Caldwell for the long haul.

It would not hurt for recruiting linemen OL DL,at leawst he could advice Dabobo.

Ford coached the Offensive line, but his biggest

Nov 27, 2012, 12:44 PM

advantage was appreciating the importance of linemen on both sides of the ball. He once said "I'd rather recruit a good offensive lineman than a good quarterback. I can make a quarterback out of an offensive lineman if I have to." Unfortunately, that philosophy is overshadowed today by those who emphasize skill positions over linemen. Of course, there is also the problem that OL is notoriously hard to play at the college level. Typically a large percentage of promising athletes just do not make it at the college level. I think it was Dabo who said we have more "misses" in recruiting at the OL position than any other.

Lack of LOS talent is not the issue.***

Danny Ford coached in a completely different era.

Nov 27, 2012, 12:59 PM

Venables would be having an easier time of it as well if he could keep his guys out on the practice field for 4 hours at a time and keep 3 strings of defenders on full-scholarship.

Please stop Bill. Our problem is not a lack of know-how...

Nov 27, 2012, 1:02 PM

And that goes for both sides of the LOS. On both sides of the line we have proven, mega-experienced coaches, including some NFL experience.

The problem can't be fixed by Danny Ford, unless he knows how to coach S&C up to today's requirements.
