Talking academics as if it matters anymore. Some college guys can make in one year what it takes most people to make in a lifetime. A degree is great but most of the players laugh about that now. They just have to be wise to hang onto what they make.

Did you read the article?
"They just have to be wise to hang onto what they make."
Dabo makes the point that 78% of NFL players are bankrupt within 2 years. And 18-20 years olds ain't going to handle their money better, it will be worse.

The nil deals make splash news but the smart parents are hearing what Dabo is saying. That's why in the end, we'll win more. We are so blessed to have Dabo. This worm ain't far from turning. The good thing is our athletic coaches understand and follow his example.
I'm afraid basketball is getting away from this model and chasing the popular buy a team approach. Hope not, but only a Duke and few other can recruit.

Glad more people are seeing this as reality rather than as Dabo not being able to adapt or being stubborn, etc. Of course there are still those who will use it as an opportunity to bash him. Some of them even claim to be Clemson fans while taking cheap shots about this subject. Dabo and Saban were 2 of the first to openly say things like this but now we are hearing it from others including guys like Kirby and even Cryan Day. I used to say this back in the 80s about the guys getting into the league and not understanding how to manage the big money they were getting at that time. A lot of them are old and broke now. No reason to believe the 18-20 year olds of today will do any better.

I admire Dabo's stance a lot, and have never advocated for us not doing all we can to emphasize education and prepare our players for life ahead.
However, Dabo isn't paid $11 million a year just to make sure players graduate and are good citizens. He is also paid with the expectation that we are an elite program with high level success. His stance on the portal and NIL, while admirable, has been a primary factor (secondary to his poor hiring practices) leading to our decline as a program.
Thankfully, he seems to have grown a lot as a coach and leader recently. He has made some really great assistant coaching hires, he has actually used the transfer portal to get players who can help us on the field, and he is supposedly leading with NIL now rather than reserving it solely to keep current players. These are all very encouraging signs, and I think we will see increased success for our team as a result.
I believe it is possible to have a program that represents Clemson well on and off the field, and that can be accomplished with aggressive use of NIL and the transfer portal as needed.

I had initially tagged you in the body of the response, then deleted that sentence to try to avoid instigating something. I don’t realize that even if you delete the tag it must still show up. But that’s ok. You did a very good job of showing why I considered tagging you in the first place.

Dabo makes great points about educating these young people for long term success but I am so sick and tired of hearing school presidents, AD's and coaches complain about NIL. Where was the outcry from these people when college athletes were being financially exploited for decades? Punished for simple infractions like selling their alloted tickets. Coaches were make money and allowed to switch schools anytime in pursuit of money. Now all of sudden the athletes have some say so in their career and can make money off their talents, the game is so bad. Save that B.S. Let these young people have the option of getting paid for their talents here and now. Education in an institution. Numerous athletes went back to school during and after their careers and got their degrees. These coaches are whining because they no longer have total control over the movements of their players. I say good for the players and coaches #### and deal with it. I guess it gets back to the old saying.....It ain't no fun when the rabbit has the gun.

It's always refreshing when an actual one-on-one interview with Dabo

brings out the truth behind his ways, rather than all the lazy hot takes from quotes and snippets of interviews taken out of context to bash and trash him.
