I believe he always meant that he would quit if college athletics became detached from academics and it became like a minor league system for the NFL.. some would argue that we’re already there, but Clemson still graduates guys, and I think that’s what is keeping Dabo around - not to mention $11 million a year, which isn’t too shabby

sometimes there's a genuine nuanced difference between things that isn't merely contrived as an excuse or pre-text for later.
As long as there's a relevant difference between what he was talking about (professionalization) and NIL (and there is) then there's no reason to assume it was a set-up to have an out. Logically, it could be an out, but just as logically, it could also simply be that he was talking about "X" (professionalization) and not "Y" NIL. And the context of what he has said and has always said about the college experience and even NIL points to the former, not the latter.

all that matters now is that Dabo embraces and executes the whole entirety of paying players from HS and portal to get Clemson Football back to ELITE again.

I think he was talking out of his behind back then because he never throught he'd see pay for play and NIL come to fruition. But I think Dabo still cares about developing players, and I also think every head coach has some level of narcissistic tendencies, so he's not going anywhere.

Trust me, I know his quote from 5 years ago. I don't need to read anything. I have read it, re-read it and defended what he said many times.
What I said is that "he never EXPECTED pay for play to happen" and thus was very against paying players like employees. His quote in 2019 was not about NIL. None of us expected this.

branding and NIL studio is all well and good, but to get out bid by the likes of Rutgers, UNC, GT, Duke, etc.......AND getting "out foxed" in the portal for impact players is a matter of execution & philosophy.

I doubt he quits with a 60M buy-out but I wouldn't be surprised if he does move on in a few years.
I could actually see him coaching high school. He won't need any money, and he's as pure an "amateur at heart" as anyone. If molding young men is no longer in the cards in college, and that's what matters to him, why wouldn't he do it at a place where it actually makes a difference?

Oh my goodness. Most on here have followed Dabo since the mid 2000’s. One thing that is never brought up is his generosity and character. Never known him to tell a lie to the fans but we are all capable of remembering what we want to or forgetting what we may or may not have said. Happens to myself a pretty good bit. I am sure if you have followed his time at Clemson you are well aware that Dabo and lying don’t really fit, regardless of your opinions about him.
