He lost his competent coaching staff and replaced them with friends, ex-players, etc.
He refused to get the best players, refused the portal.
His roster management is a complete mess.
I will concede that Dabo has earned his lifetime contract. He's earned that. But, he's a dinosaur in this new world of college football much like Bobby Bowden which was ironically demonstrated today.

I am huge fan man (for 50 years), I hate this. I don't like thinking that Dabo is probably not the right kind of coach to win in this free-for-all college football universe.
In a perfect world, a guy like Dabo should be celebrated. He's loyal and of the right moral compass. I just don't think that the model he's developed is working anymore.
I hope to be proven wrong. I really do.

1.) The defensive line is not good at pass rushing. I credit this to the lack of DE recruiting and development.
2.) The offensive line is struggling on any running plays inside. We call them a lot on 1st down and once on a horrible 2 and 12 play call today. Is Garrett Riley really calling that?
3.) Austin, Spiller, Wes, Streeter, Hall, Grisham....this is a championship coaching staff? Remember Hobby, Venables, Brooks - that's a staff.
4.) WR room in shambles and we don't sniff the portal but FSU does. We get beat by a portal player today, again.
I do appreciate you FM. I love you as a poster and you're probably a great guy.
You're right, I am hurt but I have also been witnessing this slow decline and many on here called me crazy for it (not saying you did, you're a nice guy! lol).

The ones injecting emotions here are the ones who defend Dabo to the death. They are saying things like we are a top 15 team that has just had some bad breaks this year, we had some players out, and we have young coordinators who are still learning.
When those excuses fail, they default to Dabo being a victim of college football being all about the money and we can’t/won’t compete with that.
We’ve fallen a lot in the last 5 years since we won that national championship over Alabama in blowout fashion. We’re going to miss the playoffs three years in a row. And it’s all because Dabo hired unqualified coaches. The fact that he doesn’t use the transfer portal to bring in difference makers doesn’t help either.

See, this just BS to act like it was the portal. Coleman really didn't do much of anything all day until Nate Wiggins got hurt in Overtime. If Coleman was burning us all day you would have a point, but honestly he didn't doo much at all. Neither did Wilson. They were not the difference. The difference was our walk on field goal kicker spanked a glorified extra point. To try to put this narrative that the "portal" list this game is dishonest.

I'm sorry to be offensive, but this is just stupid. You can't just run around like a chicken either your head cut off. You have to think logically.
The difference in this game was two plays, a missed block by the running back and a missed field goal.
The only thing that has changed is that we don’t have gamebreakers like we did a few years ago. The problem is we can break a big play for a touchdown, so we have to go on long drives, which increases the likelihood of a mistake.
That's NOT a function of the portal. It's a function of other teams catching up to what we were doing 5 or ten years.
Let me get blunt. Clemson is not the job you think it is. It is not guaranteed that wr can just automatically get a Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. We are never going to beat Alabama and Georgia at their own game. You start firing everybody and we really will be back to the Tommy West years.

Actually they didn't. The scored a grand total of 3 points in the second half, which came on the first possession of the half. That's not scoring when you need to. Their defense is the one who scored when they needed to.

We’ll be dead last in the luck index (a real thing) after todays’s game. We ultimately lost because of yet another point surrendering turnover. While fumbles might be a coaching or personnel issue, fumble recoveries average essentially 50/50 with a slight favorite for the offensive team. We are losing this by a ridiculous margin. Points scored immediately off fumbles and interceptions are also considered chance. We’re getting creamed. And yet the game, against the #4 team in the country, still could have been won by our field goal unit - which had a top recruit who has gone #### up. None of that suggests anything you are saying. 5th year starter, super senior Jordan Travis and his portal all stars needed overtime to beat our guys. We’re 0-2 in the ACC after statistically dominating both teams minus turnovers and a crap field goal Unit. That doesn’t suggest what you are claiming is true. I imagine Dabo will be very aggressively using the portal for kicking solutions. Cade, in his 6th start, was every bit the equal of 6th year player, 5th year starter, and supposed Heisman candidate Jordan Travis. Wide receivers finally started to look like wide receivers today. I think you’re writing a eulogy way to quickly.

He's wrong because there is basically one problem with the team, lack to gamebreakers at receiver. Some of the younger guys look ok, but they are young. There are a couple of guys that look to be pretty good coming in next year. The problem is that there were a few that didn't pan out in the last couple of classes that caused the problem.

I have to agree to a point. Coaching was great for the most part. When the W was there for the taking @ the 10-12 yard line, we got cute, for no reason on a play that took longer to develop than this sentence and left the game in a kids hands who was playing golf in Charleston this time last week.

1. Yes, nepotism and cronyism doomed this coaching staff. The staff should be mostly gone. If you look at the teams we want to compete with, no one has a less experienced and qualified staff than us. He's surrounded himself with yes men.
2. He should use the portal. I've criticized him about that repeatedly. But, I might have been wrong. We were the far more talented team today. Look at the stats. I still think the portal should be used, but maybe the loyalty thing can differentiate us in today's game, for at least some recruits.
3. I very strongly disagree. The team is a playoff-caliber team. Anyone who didn't see that today is an idiot. The roster is great. That's my biggest takeaway from the game today. The team itself is better than i thought they were.
4. No, you cannot earn a lifetime contract when we're talking $11 million a year. You either adapt or you get fired. Anyone who thinks he should be around forever based on 2016 and 2018 is a loser.

Dabo is not done. This is not a top 5 team but they are a top 15 team. Look at all of the emerging young players. They will go 10-2. Probably a playoff team next year.

We are 2-2 and we lost both of our games against good competition this year.
Now if you want to argue that we SHOULD be a top 15 team based on our talent, what we pay our coaches, and how well we support the program, then I absolutely agree with that.

This team is losing to North Carolina, notre dame, and Miami. And probably South Carolina to boot. Be honest with yourself. 6-6 is more realistic than 10-2 at this point.

Imagine the potential talent wasted on legacy, nepotism, and friendship scholarships alone. We probably lost at least one championship run to the swinney, ryan, and herbstreit scholarships.
And Riley is a dollar tree version of Chad Morris, change my mind. I’d rather lose by 3 touchdowns than this.

I really like Dabo. He has to open to the transfer portal for a receiver though, no..... any needed talent. He also has to stop rewarding friends of Clemson for positions in coaching. Dag my feelings are so hurt for another year of below mediocracy. No playoffs.

We held FSU to 17 points on offense in regulation. TD in overtime was against a backup because our starter went down last play. The D played great. The offense was on track to win the game a few times. Take away the fumble we win. It’s a tough loss. But it’s not earth ending.

Dabo was never a great coach as far as X’s and O’s Are concerned. Where he excelled was being able to recruit the best players and coaches alike. It seems as though he has lost his edge in that department

Two transfer portal teams beat us .Dabo won't even get a kicker from the portal if there was one. Defense coach is awful, and the same offense is being run.

Refusing to use the portal may or may not be the problem. I honestly don't think that would fix our woes. Between the portal and the NIL garbage, programs with deep pockets are going to have talent as good or better than ours.

Whether it is route running, tackling, RB pass blocking, QB decision making, OL drive off the ball, punt return catching the ball on the 5 yard line, etc etc etc. We are fundamentally bad at every position, with only speed and natural talent to make up for it.

If Dabo continues to not use the transfer portal this program will be left behind. I remember when Dabo said back in 2019 “that he might as well quit coaching college football and move to the NFL if players in college were ever paid”
