We don't need a good one... We need someone to step in and rock on day one.

No pressure

Go Tigers.

I totally disagree. We need a very good coach that will come in and rock the very moment his feet touches the asphalt in the Clemson parking lot. Remember when hiring people that are going to do a job for, you will get what you pay for, average coaches are a lot cheaper than a really good coach that has made a name for himself as being a really good coach, and average coaches not many people know about them. You will usually get what you're willing to pay for, and that holds true at least 90% of the time!!!

AOATFT52 disagrees. Instead of someone coming in to "rock on day one", he wants someone to come in and "rock the very moment his feet touches the asphalt in the Clemson parking lot".

Such a huge difference.

The coach obviously knows nothing, he talked about winning the press conference but no mention of the most important criteria when picking a new coach, winning Tnet…

I’m always intrigued by the coach that consistently gets more out of less. The coach that always gives the more talented team a fit because his players are extremely well coached and play like their lives depend on it!
That’s what I would look for in a DC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Leonhard did that personally as a player. It's an innate trait.***

Fix the defense and with what we have coming back on both sides of the ball, there’s no reason to think we can’t compete at the highest level.

I still believe that defense will win championships. You might get caught a couple of times with a busted defensive call but tenacity, fire, and pride will give you results you are looking for every time. This doesn't apply only to football but life and work as well. GO TIGERS

Wonder if he told that to G-Riley too?

I remain convinced that our sometimes stagnant offense is a result of Dabo interfering with the offense and the ole Waffle House menu conspiracy. If nothing else has been learned, I hope that our new DC will be given free reign to do his thing basically unimpeded & if that means displacing some current coaches, so be it.

The difference is that he has direct evidence in support of his position.

-Riley was not allowed to hire his own staff, which is the norm. Instead, he had to use Dabo's own hires of positional coaches, many of whom are not qualified outside of being his friends/family

-When Riley was hired, Dabo made the strong point that he didn't want to run Riley's offense. He wanted to run "Clemson's offense."

-We see Dabo on the sideline talking on his headset with the waffle house menu. Even if he's just giving "suggestions," it's hard to ignore your boss's suggestions.

-When our offense stagnates, you can see the same offensive playcalls we've seen under Scott/Elliott/Streeter. A lot of conservative playcalls with screens and draws, with a few sideline passes thrown in, which we know Dabo likes. Dabo's the only constant there for 4 different OCs.

-When our offense clicks and that waffle house menu is out of his hand, we start using a lot of other kinds of plays like utilizing the middle of the field, which is what Riley ran at his previous two schools.

I also have inside knowledge of the locker room that confirms this. Everyone else are making educated guesses about Clemson's offense. Only the cult, like you, have no evidence to back up your positions. Tell me, what tells you that Riley has complete control of the offense?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Even if you're wrong, you're still right...

Either Dabo has meddled with the offense - and to it's detriment ... or he's been passive and let it languished when he shouldn't have. Either way, he's presided over offensive stagnantion under multiple OC's.

It's also what brought our first ACC championship since 1991. It's what brought 8 more of those. It's what took us to now 7 playoff appearances, 2nd only to the greatest coach the sport has ever known. It's what brought numerous big bowl appearances and wins. It's what brought 2 wins against previously stated greatest coach the sport has ever seen and with that 2 National Championships, which is twice the number Clemson has won in its previous 120 years of existence.

ID SAY LET THE MAN COOK!

Look at the rest of the country. Who has been the programs to win NC's since 2000.

Alabama
Georgia
LSU
Ohio St.
Florida St.
Florida
Oklahoma
Miami
Southern Cal
Michigan
Texas
Auburn
Clemson

See a pattern?
All but 2 of those have the State name in their title. These are flagship universities. Which of those on this list have multiple NC-s
A few
LSU
Alabama
Florida
USC
Ohio st
Georgia
Clemson
How many of those had the same HC for all? Not many.

It's tough to win a national championship. Only one is crowned per year (usually). It's tough to keep a coach long enough to win 9 conference titles, huge bowls, NC's. But our coach, OUR INCREDIBLE COACH has done that. He carries one of the highest win percentages for a coach with as many years as he's been here, nearly 80%.

Almost from the beginning of Wes’s tenure, you heard defensive players constantly saying “ we just have to trust the coaches” especially after a poor showing, that instantly told me there was problems and that they didn’t feel like the coaches were telling them the correct things

Totally agree and caught that too...the undertone was definitely a sense there was a lack of confidence from the players towards the coaches (which was based around play calling it seemed, ie Wes. Add in the LBs always out of position, Wes was LB coach...

There was also that comment Dabo made after the USuC game when asked why we left the 4-3 for the 3-3-5 in the second half and he said, 'the coaches felt they were going to change the way they were playing (ie expecting USuC to pass more), so they made that switch. Coaches decision not always the right decision'. When I read Dabo say that it was clear to me what was going on and what needed to be done, which is clearly now what's happening. It's a shame too, we win that TX game with a DC that knows what he's doing...look at the teams that were able to shut down TX's run game, we have better talent than most of the ones that did, and pretty much equal to the one that did twice (UGA). And for that matter, the entire season...oh well, good news is and I trust Dabo will make an outstanding hire here and next year should be set-up to be epic.

Dabo is taking a massive leap of faith here.

I've never seen a more uncomfortable coach after a practice.
