Both teams are serving time in coach jail, locked into massive buyouts and stuck watching the walls close in.
Clemson treats the portal like it’s radioactive. FSU treats it like Amazon Prime. Both approaches have backfired spectacularly.
FSU’s got the Bama trophy, but they haven’t beaten an ACC team since the Carter administration. Clemson? Winless at home vs. P4 teams for a full calendar year.
Maybe the portal sweet spot lives somewhere between Dabo’s stubbornness and Norvell’s shopping spree. These two programs might be the best cautionary tale in college football.
Edge? Probably FSU. But when both houses are on fire, it’s anyone’s guess who burns slower.

Usually I don’t agree with most of your posts of late. However, I can agree with most of this one. I agree it should be an in between ratio of portal players. It has worked for Brownell up until this year, he hit portal more than he ever had to this past offseason, hopefully they gel and we have a decent team.
I understand Dabo’s vision of wanting to commit to young men’s families that they are not just a number. It is admirable. I think once he leaves Clemson, he would find happiness again at an FCS school where it is still pure

NIL and portal killed CFB and its sacred union. I agree that I like winning more than I do morally doing things right. It is human nature. On the flip side, without that decade of greatness, we wouldn’t be as hungry to be at the top again.

It’s killed the spirit of CFB. Without a doubt. But everyone has had to navigate this mess. Only Clemson and the service academies have not participated.
We’ve seen the results this season when the talent is finally almost gone.
There is a black cloud hanging over this program.

Neither FSU, nor Clemson should be this bad with all of the resources pumped into the program and advantages these coaches have.

Although I hate NIL and the portal, the level of mismanagement by coaches, ADs and college GMs is completely irresponsible. Unreal that both of these teams are so bad.

MAybe FSU and Clemson should apologize to the ACC for suing them since we both thought we were too good for this league. The cupcake conference is eating us alive right now.
