Poor boy made good and now got stuck in his ways. Fooled himself in believing the hype. I always wondered if he could deal with being a football millionaire…

There’s a lot of truth in what you’re saying here. I wondered about it with Dabo as well. If you grow up poor, and fight for everything you have, then all of a sudden you’ve got 50 million in the bank, what’s your next move? Dabo seems to lack direction and fire at this point, he needs to go do something else.

My own personal story is very similar to what I see iin Dabo now. I started with nothing, and built and ran a very successful business for 20 years, and I got very cocky and complacent. the business started to decline. I ended up selling it for a fraction of what it was once worth. Ego and hubris will destroy what fire and determination once built. When this happens, it’s best to cut your losses and move onto a different phase of your life.

That’s what long term million dollar contracts do to you. It’s called complacency.

However.... I've always said....its not that you lose ...but its how you lose. If there is consistent blowouts like this then its Tommy West 2.0.

Dabo has to get that fire and desire back. A lot of people like to bash Tyler...but Tyler was hurting on the inside about this team and decided to let it out to the world and to Dabo.

This is game one...but there are so many challenges ahead. There needs to be a regulation on NIL...Transfers....etc...
Only then Dabo can get a grip on the world of college football. Until then..if he can't last to see that day then its just going to keep stiff arming him and pushing him further down that mountain.

You might be right, dabo is still an amazing guy and his is an amazing story, but we all have an apex that we meet and it never gets any higher again, doesn't matter if you are a teacher, college football coach, actor. Dabo truly believes he has that one more magical season in him, that one more proving the world wrong moment.

but the reality is he has probably reached his apex as a college football coach, he still has other ways he has untapped potential as we all do.

Kirby is a machine mind compared to Dabo, he worked under Saban for ten years as DC, and he is the new saban (i sometimes wonder if alot of sabans original bama success in retrospect is from kirby) Dan Lanning has taken on that same machine mindset at Oregon from Kirby. Venables is really the only dabo assistant that has panned out and he had already been at OU under stoops.

None of that is a knock on dabo at all, if anything he squeezed more out of himself than almost anyone, amazing guy, amazing motivator but he reached his apex.

I don’t think it has a thing to do with how much Dabo is making.

I do believe Dabo needs to aggressively attempt to use the portal to fill some needs.

On the NIL front, Clemson will fall even further behind as we don’t have the financial numbers to compete with schools with more alumni and wealthier alumni willing to spend lots of money on high school kids to entice them to come and stay at their schools.

Kids have to be recruited every year hard, otherwise they are free to go.

It’s a mess in the world of college sports and Clemson is not an elite football program at this point, but I don’t think the fall off is due to the money Dabo is getting.

He will have to adapt and at a minimum utilize the portal, but a lot of this is out of his hands.

We don’t have the elite talent at WR, RB and Cade isn’t close to being a Watson or Lawrence, so there’s that, but ultimately results do matter and if a coach is willing to accept $10 million a year that comes with great expectations.

I’m not giving up on Dabo, but with the way the college game has evolved into a mercenary, essentially professional game, it’s losing its appeal.

He seems stubborn to the level of hurting his chances of success just to prove a point and be different. Only team with ZERO portal players. It showed today with his coaches' and friends' kids signees that are beyond lily white and slow.

Dabo was being held up by other people. He talked about being “exposed” in today’s post-game press conference. He has been exposed. He lost his great assistant coaches and had two great QBs during his success. His stubbornness was camouflaged by his assistants and those two QBs. Saban was great, even after losing his assistant coaches. Coach Smart has been great, even after losing his assistant coaches. Both continued to recruit at a high level, especially in the trenches. Dabo has not been.
