Current Clemson students -- Brownell?

Dec 6, 2014, 6:51 AM

Does Brad Brownell send out emails asking the students to please come to the games? If he doesn't do it for every game that is a huge problem and why student attendance suffers so much. OP used to do it for every game. Rick Barnes used to go to social groups on campus himself and ask for support. Opinions?

I was there for Bill Foster & Cliff Ellis.....

Dec 6, 2014, 7:05 AM

I never remember seeing or hearing from either of them but probably did some time or another, I just don't recall. But what I do remember, if the team was winning, or competing at least, it was standing room only in Littlejohn. There would be people lined all the way around the arena concourse and even sitting in the aisles. Good times to be a part of. When you losing it is always easy to get a seat......

Michael hit the last second jumper to beat the tarholes. Place was packed and some of those Foster teams were not GREAT, but were competitive. Same for Ellis. I always did enjoy the presses when Ellis coached.

the war's already lost. And, IMO, despite a couple of successful seasons, the war for student support of the basketball program ended a long, long time ago.......and its too bad. As another poster mentioned, LJ used to rock during the days of Locke, Foster and Ellis....and it was MOSTLY students in attendance then.

Fan support is another casualty bad early season losses***

Dec 6, 2014, 7:57 AM

Totally disagree. Clemson basketball is more exciting than ever. Last years team was super and this one will be also. Students should be ashamed

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Theres no way Brownells teams are more exciting to watch

Dec 6, 2014, 12:20 PM

than OP. Fan attendance proves that. Heck when OP was here, Littlejohn was one of the top home court advantages!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not only that, they are capable of losing to annyone. I mean

Dec 6, 2014, 8:23 AM [ in reply to His basketball teams just arent fun to watch ]

absolutely anyone. WHen you lose early to teams like Gardner-Webb, Winthrop, Rutgers and the last couple of years Coastal Carolina, people just put basketball completely our of their minds. In fact, we are so bad this year that I have taken a leave of even watching college basketball at all, and I'm a big college basketball fan. I love to come home on these short winter days when it seems like it should be 10 pm and it is only 7 pm and just check out some college basketball, no matter the conference or teams. This year I didn't even watch one other ACC/Big Ten challenge game. When I flip by a game on tv, all I can think of is how big of a dumpster fire our basketball program is.

I watch teams that hired their coaches since we hired Brownell and their teams are getting better. I remember they paired us with Iowa in the challenge in Brownell's first year because we were equally bad. We went up to Iowa and won. Now look where our program is and Iowa was paired with UNC this year and won at UNC. Also Georgia Tech, we have won so many in a row vs them at our place and theirs. This guy at Tech is in his second or third year and you can see we will not be beating them for a while.

Why would anyone spend their weekend day or, even worse, a weeknight after a day of work and before another day of work, watching that basketball team. A person's time is worth more and they are sure not going to spend hard earned money on it. Most people's money doesn't come as easily as Brad Brownell's.

Re: Not only that, they are capable of losing to annyone. I mean

Dec 6, 2014, 9:51 AM

You're obviously not a college basketball fan if you can just stop watching it altogether. Also, even if you hate seeing Clemson play, so-called "college basketball fans" that can get into ACC games and ACC/SEC games for free would go without hesitation.

Furthermore, we made the NCAA Tournament in Brownell's first year here. We played Michigan at home in the ACC/BIG 10 Challenge. We played Iowa his second season. Once again, must not be a huge "fan."

Also, Georgia Tech? Seriously? That's the best example you could give? This is Gregory's 4th year at Tech, not his second or third. Brownell has never even lost to Georgia tech while at clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Loved the GT example also. Gregory is on the hot seat big

Re: Current Clemson students -- Brownell?

Dec 6, 2014, 9:50 AM

He sent out emails last year but he hasn't so far this season. However, attendance is not completley on the students. I've seen a fair share of alumni/fan seats empty as well. I go to every game but I do a good job of scheduling out my study time so that I can attend every game. Some students aren't willing to do that for Clemson basketball and can you really blame them after watching losses to Winthrop and Rutgers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He only sends out emails

Serves the fans right...Everyone wanted to bring Purnell outside of Little John and cut his throat...He bolted because of the pressures of coaching Clemson basketball...The fan base made this bed, they need to lay in it...

Incoming out of state transfer here for spring. I will be at as many games as I can attend. They're free for crying out loud, and I love sports.
