The fried mushrooms at Nicks. With horseradish sour cream sauce for dipping. Hands down. Nothing else even close. This was before chicken wings became a delicacy.

Totally agree. Bird dog with Hot Honey - fries or pub chips but def gotta do the spicy ranch on the side.
Extra crispy Wings at Sardi’s was also the move.

In the early 80’s, bars did not serve food. We drank like crazy and ordered Chanello’s. On a few occasions if some could drive, we headed to WaHo or the WaHo clone in Pendleton. Most times we stumbled back to J-Stone and passed out or if possible, found other avenues of entertainment

I was there 80-84. Didn’t have a car so I was limited to downtown most of the time. Y’all are right, most of the beer bars like Tiger Town, The Bookstore and Penny Annie’s didn’t serve food. Nicks and Sloan St. tavern were the exceptions. First time I ever tried fried mushrooms was at Nicks. Been hooked on the good, lightly battered type ever since.

1980-85 had to be boiled peanuts at Sloane Street Tap Room. I blew off many a night at Harcombe by eating boiled peanuts and drinking $1.50 pitchers of beer.

Hang out at Tiger Town until late, then walk over to the Tap Room for some really cold boiled peanuts and a cardboard tray for the shells. We would feast on the salt water goodness!

Pop corn at Edgar’s which was fantastic at the time as it was overly salty

We mostly ate 25 cent beers. Although, if we had any money left, we would stop for breakfast at the County Kitchen on our walk back to campus.

Not exactly bar food, but a Chanello’s pizza and a cold one was hard to beat. Nick’s was good too.
