where you catch your fish only to find that your competitors find it easier to simply fish out of your live well than to go find and catch their own fish.

Did you see where Nebraska is going to cancel their spring game because they are tired of competitors poaching their players as a result of seeing them in action? That's what the results of having someone fishing in your live well looks like. It hurts fans and it hurts teams.

Matt Rhule said, “To go out and bring in a bunch of new players and showcase them for all the other schools to watch doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.”. Nebraska lost 6 players in the spring of 2024 that he attributes to be a direct result of other teams scouting his players based on the broadcast of their spring game. Therefore he is not going to have the team play this coming spring. The NCAA can't/won't do anything to fix it.

What needs to happen is a real decision needs to be made. Either football players are students first or they are employees first. What is happening right now it they are still being treated like they are students first. Who is to say to any student where they can go to college? Hence, players can be easily sniped, poached, russled from any other team because nobody can stand in the way of a student's choice of places to attend school.

What needs to change is that they have to become employees first and only students as a perk of employment. Then they can be contractually bound. They can be sued for breach of contract if they attempt to go someplace else...but you can't do that with a student who was recruited to play football as a side gig. Every single player on a college team needs to be getting a W2 that itemizes the value of their college tution, room and board as income. Let's just dispense with them being students.
