Coaches are only as good as the talent they have.

That’s true for our coaches as well.

I know we like to think that our coaches are so amazing that they can overcome any obstacle, and coach up anyone to amazing heights. But last night we saw our outstanding coaching staff struggle due to personnel. That’s to be expected with the injuries we had and talent deficiencies we had in key areas.

If our recruiting is so good, why do we have deficiencies? Especially an OL that cannot run block

We can’t have 5 stars across the board who are ready to play

and who are just as good as the starters. That’s just not realistic.

At some point, injuries and youth will result in a drop off.

I don’t disagree about the OL.

That loss was due to awful coaching. You have to adjust your game plan to the talent you have. Why Blitz with a minute left with our defense being so hurt. You play not to give up a big play. It was not a 3 point game. So they had to score a TD with the clock not being ND’s friend.

I agree that the coaching was poor, especially on offense.

Play calling on our last possession in regulation was amateurish and frustrating.

The point is that our coaches aren’t perfect, and a lot of our success is due to our superior talent rather than our coaches being magicians. Yes, they are great coaches - the best staff in college football IMO - but they are still human. Our significant losses in personnel aren’t enough to overcome our performance last night against a top 5 team.
