Coach Brownell is not going anywhere

As much as I'd like to see change any Clemson fan arguing for his removal is only wasting their time. What we should be discussing is how his contract is handled by Neff going forward. Okay I get it, back-to-back 20-win seasons and we're in the Big Dance which we were all told was the goal for this season.
What, if any, extension will he receive? Pay raise? Is Neff going to tie his own hands with a large extension and more money or will it be a one or two-year extension with a reasonable buyout and no pay raise? Sustained success would be a requirement if I'm in Neff's shoes. Let's see what you do next season without Hall. What can he do with his best class that's coming in next season?
I personally think CBB's time here should have ended a few seasons ago. I equate him to Tommy Bowden. I think he has done a good job establishing a solid foundation but I do not see him being able to take the program to the next step. I don't give two $h!ts about Clemson's basketball history. If our goal isn't to be among the best programs out there then why have a program, especially in the NIL era.

Neff has boxed himself in. He set his continuance goal as making the tourney but we finished middle of the pack. Lost a lot of games we should have won. Only 2 signature wins. Poor end of game strategy abounds year after year. Mediocrity continues…and will continue. Let’s face it Brownell is a mediocre coach delivering mediocre results. Our University, supporters, and fan deserve better.

5 out of 15 is middle of the pack?

and only made the top third by 1/10th of a percentage point.
5/15 = 33.33
100 - 33.33 = 66.67
66.67 is not middle of the pack?
I love CBB, and am a known defender, but I still have to be able to acknowledge facts.

We're 6th though. What am I missing? We are definitively in the middle third of our 15 team conference.

But my point was in direct response to his question if we are middle of the pack, and the answer is yes, we are much closer to the middle of the pack than leading the pack, as much as it pains me to say it.

Weve finished in the top third of the ACC three of the last four seasons.

That is an outstanding accomplishment for Clemson basketball, as well as most ACC teams, yet many people on here act like we stink.

Are we just accepting alternate facts now. You can’t have a 3 way tie for 5th and count then all as upper third. You can used the established tie breakers. Or you can rank by record, in which case there would be 11 places this season and our record places us at in 5th place.

I believe 5 out of 15 is within 1 standard deviation from the mean. You'd have to finish better than 4th (or worse then 11th) to fall outside of the middle 68%.

"Only 2 signature wins"....I assume you are talking about UNC & Bama....

I'm not sure many teams in college basketball can claim 2 road wins of that stature.
We also had some other good wins...maybe not "signature" (if the standard is road wins at UNC & Bama)
The neutral court win over TCU was solid. Wins over SCAR & Boise were good wins.
In conference...the sweeping of Pitt and Syracuse were good wins. A few agonizingly close losses that kept us from doing something special.
Sure, we should have won more conference games...particularly at home.
I think this team probably should've finished 3rd or 4th outright this season.
But I prefer to cheer them on in the tournament and then reflect on it from there. If we end up making some noise, it will probably will help how we view this season. I don't think it will change how his tenure here 14 years in is viewed. At this point, it is what it is, as far as that goes.

The only part here I disagree with is that this season's goal was simply making the NCAA. Neff and many felt that last year's team had earned that NCAA berth and were simply robbed of it, so improvement this year would mean NCAA+, since it kinda already happened last year if you buy the robbed narrative, although it didn't.
Brad is almost assuredly back for another year if past AD actions are a gauge. I share your sentiment though that nothing additional should be considered outside of the obligatory 1-year tack-on regardless of what lies ahead in the post-season.

He and the Mrs. BB are booked on the Icon of the Seas sailing on March 30. You can read into that sailing date what you will.

Bowden had a Porsche but could only make it go 55 mph.
CBB has a Corolla which will only go 55 and he is driving it at 50 mph.
Hope this helps your understanding.

Bowden saved and bought that Porsche. Brownell saved and could only afford the Corolla just saying.

we were told making the goal for last season was making the tournament and Neff gave him a pass because he thought it should have been a tournament team. This team was supposed to be an improvement over that team and Neff explicitly stated in his email that one of the primary reasons for retaining Brownell was because of PJ Hall returning and the potential that created. He never enumerated any specific expectation. But I doubt it was to do worse in w/l record and standing in the ACC. I also doubt it would have been to go 0-2 or 1-2 in the post-season.

His latest contract extension more or less guaranteed he will be here several more years. His buyout next year is still pretty steep.

I along with every Clemson fan hopes we win every game in front of us… but I would prob disagree that if we were to get bounced from the ACCT wed night and lose in the first round of the NCAA his job would be safe… I think it would make the decision very much in front of Neff at that point and you would have to really think seriously about thanking BB for everything he’s done (even possibly adding him in an off court role since I don’t see a lot of programs calling to hire him away since he’s such a great coach) and moving in a different direction. Again i think the regular season really was somewhat of a disappointment but if we win a couple games in the the NCAAT that’s forgotten and I’m fine with whatever decision is made. But 0-2 or even just one Win wed night then 2 losses and I think it’s time bc that would be a big underachievement from the expectations even from the media heads from early in the season.

Quit setting the bar so low!!

Five weeks into the fall season in Mens Soccer, the team had 2 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses … and we were struggling a little bit with our cohesion.
However, if you had asked Coach Mike Noonan if he would be ok just having a winning season and making the NCAA tournament, he would have told you to “go pound sand!” And rightfully so!!
Instead, he kept the team focused and their form kept getting better and better. Their shots became more accurate … the team was close to having 50% of their shots on goal each game … and the defense tightened up.
They didn’t settle … and ended up winning the ACC Tournament … and our second National Championship in 3 years! (Four total in program history) 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Not all seasons end up like this, but if you don’t give it your all and BELIEVE!! … then what the heck are you doing even playing?

At least 3 of the Brownell Bros (probably all Cobbox scocks) have signed off on JStone’s assertion that Clemson lacks even the potential to ever win a championship at basketball. Yet here they are begging not to change coach at a sport they believe we are playing for no reason.

No extension. Raise? Whatever. It's Monopoly money anyway. But the outlook isn't great next year, so don't box yourself in without Hall, Girard and Hunter next year.
