Climate hypocrites

Next time you talk to your lefty friends about the climate, here are a few things you might suggest they try because we all know the climate zealots are the biggest hypocrites around, because:

- They don't drive slower and conserve gasoline - no one is driving the speed limit. Just pay attention to your mileage when you drive 65 vs 75 vs 85. The decrease in mpg is non-linear. You can easily get 10% better mpg by driving slower and accelerating more slowly from a stop. Imagine the country using 5% less fossil fuel overnight. It would be tremendous. I say 5% because the lefties are the talkers, so they gotta be the walkers.

- They don't buy EVs - EVs are what, < 1% of the cars out there? Come on - imagine if 40% of the populous used zero fossil fuels!

- They have cars and shun public transportation (except in cities where it is most convenient). Of course they do - they cannot be amongst the commoners taking public transportation and have to wait 15 minutes outside for an empty bus.

- They don't ride bikes but like to ruin street transportation by adding feel-good (but hazardous) bike lanes everywhere.

- They don't adjust their home AC and heat to use less energy and discomfort themselves. If they did the power companies would be reporting massive reductions in usage. But alas, to the ignorant lefties, power just comes out of the wall with no smoke, and hot/cold air just comes out of the vent smelling good so it must be using clean energy.

- They don't live in smaller homes to reduce their carbon footprint. Unh-uh, these people are king of keeping up with the Joneses, so of course they will not sacrifice their lifestyle for the planet.

- They eat meat. Only 5-8% of people in the US are vegetarian. Meat has 100x or more of the carbon footprint that veggies do. Over 40% of the citizens should be avoiding meat to help save the planet. https://www.reuters.com/breakingviews/war-cow-farts-is-stinky-necessary-job-2023-03-24/
https://www.greeneatz.com/foods-carbon-footprint.html

- They leave their phones on 24/7/365 - we know they do because we do LOL

- They use dishwashers that are far less efficient than washing by hand. How long does your dishwasher take to run?

- They have kids. Kids add dramatically to the family carbon footprint. Especially if kids are driven all over the city/state playing sports on weekends. Climateers should help the planet out and not have kids.

- They use ice in their drinks. Why can't 40% of the country use less or no ice like many of the so-admired European nations. Instead they fill it up and end up throwing it and a bunch of excess carbon down the drain.

- And finally, speaking of ice, maybe the most egregious example I know of...I can't suggest this is extensive or exclusive to climate weenies, but the one person I know that does this is a huge progressive...what is it? Putting giant ice blocks in your pool to cool it down during the summer! LOL https://www.theicewagon.com/our-services.htm

If even half the people that believe the planet is in danger did half this stuff, it would make a difference. So, do they not really believe it, are they just too lazy/ignorant to do something about it, or do they want others to sacrifice on their behalf?

And that's why they are trying to force their warped views on the rest of us via legislation. If they can't get us to voluntarily live in grass huts and subsist on insects they'll mandate it via govt fiat. At least that's where we will end up if they get their way, not that their useful idiot voters have any concept of what their lives would look like if their overlords ultimately get to create their new planetary utopia.

There's an entire industry in America of climate denial that's almost strictly on the right-wing. You need to talk to your side a little more about accepting reality. I think that's a bigger problem than whether or not you think someone is a hypocrite.

Alot of Red Hats can't admit it. They know it deep down, but won't admit it, because it'll make them look like a Biden supporting gay-married terrorist islamic soshulist....

As for me, I"m actually doing alot in my life to conserve energy and increase gas mileage (we own hybrids). But the main thing I'm doing is supporting politicians who admit that AGW is happening that something needs to be done about it. Biden is ushering in changes that will make a big impact eventually.

The changes his regime is trying to institute will wreck the economy and our standard of living, the automotive industry is already starting to feel the pain from the EV push.

Smitty clearly DVR’s MSNBCs primetime lineup.

Let’s say it hurts the economy temporarily. Infrastructure has to catch up, a lot of hurdles still to cross. But would you disagree with arguments that might say that being the leaders in the world in new technology would give us future economic advantage, and that it’s generally for the greater good?

I’ve bought two gas vehicles in the last 4 years, I’ve not had my mind changed by any EVs yet, but I can see a rationale for why trying to force a move to EVs might not be a bad idea. We’re already way behind in public transportation.

No, I wouldnt disagree with that

The problem is the government trying to force it through policy. Auto manufacturers have abandoned ICE r&d in favor of technology that is not selling. They’re relying on profits from vehicles government is trying to ban to stay afloat. This has a lot of ripple effects in the economy that are just now starting to show up.

Our country runs on diesel fuel, these new particulate restrictions are going to cause massive problems moving forward. Shipping costs will explode which impacts everything and everybody. EV semi trucks are simply not going to be a thing, that is a pipe dream. And at the end of the day, these requirements arguable cause more harm than good to the environment, lithium mining isn’t exactly environmentally friendly nor is DEF(urea) production.

I don’t doubt technology will get there, but it’s a long way away currently. The way we’re going about it though is only handicapping ourselves, which ultimately is to the detriment of the planet. Who else is going to push countries like India and China to adopt new standards if we can’t?

I think Biden has some unrealistic goals....

But his IRA bill is overall a very good thing. It provides tax credits for businesses that invest in renewables. It's all carrot and no stick.

The economy is strong right now, as it's completely bounced back from the pandemic. I don't think Biden's policies will destroy our economy at all. If he's trying to, he's doing a bad job at it, because job creation is very strong, and the fundamentals of the economy are strong.

This is a different argument.

First, we need to be on the same page: is climate change happening? If so, THEN we can discuss actions.

You are stuck at step 1 currently.

To ~40% of the population the science is settled. I am suggesting this same 40% ain't doing chit themselves and are waiting on the gubment to make something happen. Or, waiting on me to change so they can keep their hot water heaters at 140 deg F.

The very large majority of these people have no idea about the realities of the situation. They have no idea how many orders of magnitude larger their carbon footprint is than the balance of humans on the planet. They have no idea what their own opinions would mean if they actually did what they want others to do.
