Clemson's 2025 Athletic Apparel and Equipment Surplus Sale Outcome

As a long time IPTAY member and Clemson graduate, I must state that this past Saturday's surplus sale was a "mixed bag." The doors opened at 0800. I got there just before 0730 after making the two-hour drive to Tiger Town. The line was already a "mile" long and made a 90 degree turn at the sidewalk bordering Perimeter Road down to Ravenel Road. One needed to get there at least 1.5 to 2 hours before the opening time. That would have meant 0600 or 0630!

Enough with the timing issue. Now onto the sale. Sure, there were some good prices on apparel and equipment, but selection on certain merchandise was very limited. I got an authentic Nike polo shirt (just like the coaches wear) and two pairs of Nike down-to-the-knee shorts (fatigues) for a respectable price. But, that was the only bright spot.

Now for the bad news. So much of the merchandise was very old. I am talking a minimum of 10 years old!! My main reason for going to this sale (the first one since 2019) was to purchase an authentic white football jersey (just like the players wear) with my high school number on it. I did find two such jerseys, but they were both way too small. Moreover, the glue from the patches (ACC and Nike) was fading through and left noticeable yellow stains. Plus, the white jerseys did not look white; they looked faded and off-white. The jerseys (orange, purple, and white) were at least from 2015 (if not further back). They are definitely not the jerseys worn by the current football team. The same can be said for the caps/hats as many were from bowl games in the mid-late 2010s.

To a lesser extent, the tables were initially set up by size (S, M, L, XL, XXL, etc.) and items (pants, polos, shorts, caps, etc.), but the arrangements became very disordered once people started combing through it. Plus, the piles were so steep on certain items, especially the football jerseys.

In closing, the check-out line was awful - very long and slow moving. More cash registers were needed. Plus, restrooms were shown as "not available" or "out of order". Yet, shoppers still went around the barriers and used them as the restrooms were in full functioning order from what I observed. Such sales as these are hit-or-miss. For some, they are "gold mine." For others, they are a disappointment. If you plan to go to any such future sales, make sure you arrive at the front door at least 1.5-2 hours early. There were fans trying to get in an hour or so before the spring game. Too late. By that time, it was "slim pickings." Most of the "good stuff" was long gone!!

Its a leftover junk sale, not the Tiger Sports Shop.

It actually wasn't very junky at all. There were a few things here and there and some old Russell gear scattered about but overall it wasn't too bad. I disagree with the OP about the bulk of the jerseys. They weren't in that bad of shape or old looking IMO. You could really rack up on some very nice baseball bats, batting gloves, etc. due to us switching from Easton. The football cleats were really worth it but only if you were a size 12-15 but still, those are very expensive cleats. I'm sure the folks that got in first really racked up.

Ok --- had a bit of a different take ... found a bunch ... hats for the whole fam ### ( I got a camo Bball hat) -- two baseball jerseys ... a bunch of Dri-fit shirts --- couple of jackets, etc ... happy with what we got ... $10 for stuff that have $26-$30 price tags was a good deal (or so we thought) ..

The neatest stuff I saw that I didn't get was golf equipment shoes, gloves etc ...

Downside ... the resellers that got in and just scooped up 50-60 pairs of shoes each --- yes it has been 7 years since the last surplus sale, so you were going to get old stuff and you were going to have lines for days ... they obviously didn't plan for the response ... only 4 people checking people out and we spent 1 1/2 hours in line just to check out.

And then there are the people who just grabbed and then went over to the side, tried stuff on and just tossed it in piles on the floor (yes did find 3 of my favorite things in someone's discarded pile) .. for future reference to all - Nike Dri-fit is cut small - and to the dude and his wife (you know who you are) right behind the XL and XXL tables- there was no way in #### either of you were fitting into an XL or an XXL ... so twenty to thirty items ended behind a table in a pile that no one could get to.

Sounds about right. People take new clothes into the dressing room now and just throw them on the floor if they don't want them rather than put them back where they found them.

Here's my take...

Got there around 7:45 thinking it wouldn't be that crowded. WRONG. Line was starting to wrap behind LJC. SO, I stood there with my son until we finally made it to the metal detector at about 9:50. We were literally next when they told us we had to wait another 30 mins because the fire marshal allegedly claimed the facility was at capacity. There were literally less than 10 people shopping. That wait turned into about 45 mins. The workers were saying "don't blame us, don't blame Clemson, Fanatics is in charge of this." We were able to get a few nice things for my son, and one or two things for myself, wife, and daughter strictly based on our sizes (XL to XXXL). Got in line and that's when it really, really went south. There was a long line of tables with discarded items and piles in the floor all mingled in with checkout line. At some points you couldn't distinguish between the two. At one point my guesstimate was that we were going to be in the checkout line at least 1 - 1.5 hrs. When I checked there were 4 people using ipads to check out and there was a deputy sorting items. Colossal train wreck.

My son finally made the call to abandon ship and go to the game at 1:10. I took our bag and sat it on a table and told the folks..."here's a few nice things ranging from XL - XXXL, have at it" it looked like a feeding frenzy LOL. Total waste of time but I did get to hang out with my boy so that was the bright spot.

Next time...more check out options, have checkout area completely away from any shopping area, move it back to the stadium concourse, let CU students have first shot the Friday before, and finally if you throw things in the floor, you're out, if you can't physically carry out what you're buying it's a no go. There shouldn't be multiple people nor people standing with 9 large boxes full of stuff waiting to be picked up. If they're going that route then make it an online sale. Go Tigers!

lol, Clemson must have the busiest fire marshall ever. Shutting down hill capacity, clogging up the surplus sale. This cat has to be a coot!

To me it seemed like it was more of a Fanatics clearance sale than true CUAD surplus. The checkout were clearly labeled Fanatics. A lot the items had the original packaging and Nike price tags. Do they send stuff to CUAD with retail price tags? Doubt it. It was ridiculous that they only had 4 registers to check out. Took an hour to check out. Also found it annoying those who were clearly buying for resale with 4-5 huge moving boxes full of gear.
