breaking news i just got from a source. cant say who it is of course but it is someone not very many notches down from president barker. this has been in the works and something could very well be announced before the first of the year. it will be the biggest news for clemson maybe ever. keep your fingers and toes crossed guys.

Look at our weaknesses on D going into this year vs our LB play and improvement. To say our Dline coaches and Cheese aren't going to get their year next and beyond is just ignorant.
Bet So Car don't want to see Chad use the short passing game and I can't see why he didn't for the life of me. Also, I still think if certain penalties were called correctly we wouldn't be having such discussions.

believe this? It's not going to happen...period. People with sources higher in the SEC (at least higher than a couple of rungs down the ladder from the CU President) have been very clear there will be NO EXPANSION in states with an SEC school. I know you've heard this but that means CU, FSU, GT, and UL will not get in the SEC unless the SEC school in their state leaves.
UNC/NCST and UVA/VT are virtual locks for the SEC when it goes to 16 schools in 2014. I would jump at any offer the BIG 12 makes ASAP.

But I do think it would make business sense. Adding Clemson and FSU would solidify the SEC against the Big 12 for decades.
The SEC would truly be the Southeastern Conference and the Big 12 would have no foot print in it.

I agree 100%. It makes sense from a culture point of view also. CU and FSU would be a great fit in the SEC but it's just not going to happen due to economics. No TV sets would be added in that scenario.

I don't know why some of our fans keep bringing up going to the SEC. It only causes heartbreak, needlessly. From a business standpoint, it makes no sense. You know the adage about it not being personal, only busines? It applies here.

thought it was BS. However, from many past posts I have come to respect deroberts' opinions and, I thought, what if there IS something going on and how could it possibly come to fruition?
So my thoughts started with the common belief the SEC wants a major presence in the NC/VA media markets and that UNC is the big prize they want and need to hit an expansion home run and not just settle for leftovers. So, what have we heard or what can logically be surmised for this plan to be realized?
Other blogs have asserted that for UNC to consider a conference jump they will want a package deal with Duke. Supposedly, this is a sticky point with the B1G as their model desires big state univ's unless your initials are ND.
From my experience of living in Virginia for 5 years, I believe UVA will NOT go to the SEC and will prefer the B1G if the ACC fractures any further. This is due to academic and cultural snobbery, B1G money and linkage to the NE markets UVA adores - but mostly the snobbery.
I think the SEC would like a UNC/Duke package as #'s 15 & 16. Not only would this lockup the NC market, the addition of Duke would be a HUGE boost to the SEC's academic ego - which could use a boost. To access VA markets would require further expansion with VA Tech the only option as #17.
Who then is left for #18 and who would be driving the selection? My take is UNC is the driver and they will influence the choice to be someone that can, potentially, fall under the UNC/Duke 'sphere of influence'. UNC will not just jump ship to a new conference without a grouping that gives them influence in the new family. The SEC would balk at a 3rd NC school and FSU would more likely link to Bama than UNC/Duke. CU would be a good link geographically, academically and retain rivalries for UNC/Duke/VA Tech. The SEC would get 2 of the 3 top FB teams and the two best BB teams in the ACC with dominating presence in the Carolinas and a strong VA/DC play - a Grand Slam!
Anyway, that's how I could see CU as #18.

I like your take on UNC/Puke sticking together. I disagree with your conclusion on the matter, though. My guess is if UNC won't go without Puke, the SEC would say, no deal. THAT would be why Clemson is then an attractive option. Maybe they finally realized it's in their best interest to go for the most SEC-like teams available. That would be Clemson and FSU. Possibly VT. I certainly don't think the SEC is wanting to go to 18 teams. If they're looking to expand to 16 and they won't accept UNC's terms, I could see the door open to Clemson and FSU.
