Clemson House vs Johnstone A

I'm assuming Johnstone A is still standing. If so, why is the University more concerned about tearing down Clemson House?

New A is already scheduled to go. I is tricky due to its closeness to Tillman.

It says a majority of the Union will be demolished by 2020. I'm assuming the pool hall and bowling alley will go away.

I drove through Clemson last April for the first time in awhile. I was amazed how much things had changed. I guess when I go to football games I typically only see the perimeter road side of Clemson.

Harcombe, old post office, Chili's, Student Senate, bowling alley, pool hall, everything.
Oddly, what I think I'll miss the most is the courtyard. I really loved that space.

I work for the university, and from what I've heard, Clemson House is structurally worse off than Johnstone even though the opposite appears to be true. It costs more to keep Clemson House online each year than any other building on campus. The Union will eventually come down and Core Campus is a huge step towards that. Starting this year, Harcombe, Chilli's, and Chicfila will no longer be in the Union. I will say that it is extremely ironic that Johnstone is still standing. It was built in the 1950's as temporary housing for students because of the huge growth following WWII.

Core Campus replaces Harcombe

There is a new Dining Hall in Core Campus. As far as the bowling alley, etc, I have not heard plans to replace it which is sad. I had good times there and my daughter is a Senior now at Clemson and is upset about it going away.

I remember my friend living in Clemson House circa 2000. There was a clear pocket on the back of the door with a Clemson House hotel checkout card still in it. Had signatures/dates/checkout times from way way back. I took it and kept it. Still have it. I need to post a pic.
