Clemson, SC—Senior Andrew Swanson shot a final round 65 to finish in eighth place at The Goodwin collegiate golf tournament at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, CA. Clemson finished 18th out of 30 teams on the par 70 course that was Tiger Woods’s home course as a Stanford student.
The field included 13 top 50 team and 164 total players, the largest field in a regular season men’s tournament in the nation this year.
Swanson had rounds of 68-74-65 for a 207 total, three-under-par for the 54 holes. His 65 on Saturday was the best on Saturday among the 164 players. It included seven birdies and two bogeys. For the tournament he had 13 birdies and an eagle. Swanson improved 26 places in the standings thanks to his 65.
He had nine-hole scores of 32-33 for his 65 that was recorded on the 100th round of his Clemson career. It was his eighth round in the 60s this year, including his fifth in the final round of a tournament.
Clemson finished with a team score of 19 over par 859. Clemson had 46 birdies and one eagle to rank in the top 10 in the field in under par scores on holes, but also ranked in the top 10 in double bogeys.
Swanson was the only Tiger to finish in the top 50 of the 164 player field. Lucas Augustsson was Clemson’s second best golfer for the weekend with a five-over -ar 215 score after rounds of 69-76-70. He had nine-hole scores of 36-34 on Saturday. He finished with 11 birdies, second among Tigers and his 4.44 stroke average on par five holes was a the best on the team.
Kian Rose finished with a 221 score for the 54 holes after rounds of 72-75-74. Freshman Rich Walls finished one stroke higher at 222, 12 over par. His best round was an opening round 71 when the Tiger team shot even par 280.
junior Thomas Higgins was Clemson’s best golfer in the second round with a 71. He finished with a 223 score, 13 over par.
Freshman Colin Salema played the tournament as an individual and had rounds of 72-76-77 for a 14 over par score of 224. He was Clemson’s best golfer on the par three holes with a 3.0
Clemson returns to action and the Lewis Chitengwa Intercollegiate in Charlottesville, VA, April 14-15.

Bet that was strange for those guys. Got to figure not many have played any rounds on those type grasses. Can’t imagine putting on poa annua greens. Try to kill it in these parts.

Poa Annua greens are pretty common in that part of the country, due to the climate, and can be very good. Pebble Beach's greens are Poa. Some players do not like playing on Poa Annua, but the better players on Bnetgrass are the better players on Poa, so that should not have made a difference .... or a big difference anyway.

I remember watching Chris Patton at the Masters and being so proud that he was from the Upstate and was a Tiger. We have been a golf power and producer of PGA players for years and we need to get back to those days. Hoping for better days ahead for Coach Byrd and his guys.

Of a strong finish, which was desperately needed. Barring a miracle run to the ACC title, this weekend most likely closed the door on making the NCAA postseason this year & will snap the 42-year postseason streak.
Having the postseason streak end & w/ 4 seniors departing, this should force the coaches and athletic department to look what needs to be done to make Clemson a force on the national level again.

They play 1-2 decent rounds in most their tourneys, then have 1 that is just God-awful. Don't know if it's talent, coaching, or what, but these guys have struggled to play good team golf for a few years now.
