OL John Williams?

Pretty highly rated coming in. Got hurt. Seems to have disappeared. Is he still a potential contributor?

I was thinking the same thing when I noticed he wasn’t even listed as a reserve on the first depth chart. I guess we will see if #76 runs out there against GA Tech.

I also missed his name as soon as I saw the list. One year has passed since his injury. I would think they are in no rush to play him seeing the depth. Get strong and well, John and see some action later in the year.

Look for this offense to be NEW & improved in all areas

Play action to the TE or long to Ngata & B. Collins after our running game establishes momentum. I can’t wait to see how DJ looks with his base/feet set on most throws.
If he calms down he’ll be much better. Trevor used to get much better after he got hit good, like it got him determined, hopefully DJ will continue that this season.
Love to see us run and wear teams down and then throw over the top.
Let’s go New & Improved Offense! Score 70 on GT again. You know that was embarrassing and it could have been much worse.

Agree. Would love to see some dominant blow them back 10 yards oline play. Throwing only because we want to and not that we have to.
So exciting to see both sides of the ball. As for DJ, as you stated, footwork and has he eliminated the tendancy to stare down receivers. Given we might not see much the first 3 games.

Not real sure the prospect of Ship split out wide excites me unless it’s for a jet sweep. I would rather see him lined up in the backfield and get the ball on a pitch or swing/screen pass in the flats with some of the bigs out in front of him.

If Shipley lines up at WR

then we have some major depth issues at WR. Or, God willing, he's worked in the off-season to learn how to catch a football. Love him as a runner, but he had cinderblocks for hands last year.

I maybe wrong, but I think that Ship only fumbled the ball once all last season, plus he proved he could catch the ball coming out of the backfield if the pass wasn't thrown like he was 35 yards down field. IMO, DJ would throw short passes way to hard to receivers that were only 10 yards or less down field. There were many times that DJ thought that he was pitching his fastball to a batter, and not a receiver 10 yards away from him!!! I was surprised that he never broke any of our receivers fingers trying to catch a 90 MPH pass, 10 or less yards away from a receiver!!!

Yes, held on to the ball well as a runner, but we all remember the drop against Pitt that was a TD. Think that's what Fluxus was calling as cinderblocks

Last year was last year, so it's reasonable to expect Ship to catch the ball better this year.
But to recall another big drop last year ... again, it's reasonable to expect 2022 to be better for him ... against NC State he had an easy, short, softly thrown over the middle pass that would have brought us a first down (this was in the first half), and he dropped it like a stick of warm butter.
Even if Ship's hands have not improve dramatically, then he will be a stalwart at RB. We can use our WR Corp and TEs to catch the FB.

Had the big fumble against GT late for the safety

That put the game back in play. Seems ok holding onto running - biggest issue was feet in that category as seemed to be tripped up pretty easily. Critical drops receiving - has got to improve on that. Pace was a more complete back last year IMO. Shipley has more speed I think but Pace rated higher to me in almost every other category. Mafah has to see the field as well- did some great things. Coaches obviously see them every day and know what they want out of each player and play but to me we have 3 one’s at RB

Fully agree. I recently rewatched the Notre Dame game. With the benefit of foresight, I saw some of the same issues that were prevalent last year ( even though he threw for 400 yards). Notably was watching receivers try to shake the sting from their hands after attempting to catch a 100 mph fastball thrown from 10-15 yards away. That said, I fully support DJ and hope he has an all star year.

No doubt he needs to put more touch on the ball and adjust to position of the receivers. I think that lack of touch, and the poor OL play giving DJ no time to look beyond the first receiver option, were DJ's issues. We find out soon. Hope we all are pleasantly surprised at the turnaround.

Re: Yep. Loved when CJ killed it on wheel routes from backfield***

CJ had fantastic hands for catching the ball. He could catch wheel routes ... even when they turned out to be very long downfield passes.
When in the Pros with NO, CJ caught what amounted to bomb from Drew Brees for ~ 80 yard TD. He snatched that ball like a politician snatches a microphone.
That, among other reasons, was why CJ was option #1 at Punt Returner.
Ship ... notice that he was never a first choice (nor second nor third choice) at PR.
There's more than moves and jukes to PR, and that's why Ship wasn't in the PR rotation ... even after W.Taylor's ACL blew out.

Agree, but I would like to see the shuttle pass plays like Trevor and ETN done a few times with great success. I believe the same thing would again with Ship, and IMO, I think that Ship is better at breaking tackles than ETN was, but ETN was faster, but still I believe we would have success doing the same play with Ship!!!

Etienne was a beast at breaking tackles... Exceptional balance. Ship is nowhere close at this point.

Good lord. How soon we forget. ETN was incredible at breaking tackles - and yes, getting one hand on the ground to just catch his balance and keep going - one the all time greats on a pound for pound basis. As for straight line speed, Shipley is close and may continue to improve both his speed and his strength. Mafah doesn't break tackles as much as he just runs right through them. Tigers blessed at RB.

I totally agree with the take on Davis Allen . Been a big fan of this kid since day one. I fell he will be a very solid NFL prospect.

Clemson depth chart: D.Allen as All American - who knows?
Aug 28, 2022, 11:07 AM
|
|
I agree with you.
Maybe I was drunk with satisfaction after D.Allen started catching everything in site after the first 3 or 4 games were over with, but by late 2nd half of 2021 I was thinking that D.Allen might be All American material for 2022.
Maybe that's a bit much, but D.Allen blocks like a real TE should (as opposed to the 'flex' TEs who often block like a sheet of toilet paper).
If blocking prowess was rated more highly by the press, and if opposing coaches looked at game film instead of highlight reels, then I believe that D.Allen would get a real look as an All American after he finished what I expect to be a stellar upcoming season.
We'll see.

If he's an AA, then he'll be good enough to be drafted in the first 45 of the NFL draft. Don't complain about him not being an AA only to see him drafted in the 6th round

Parks is going to be nasty at RG. His positional versatility will be a plus at the next level.

Heck ... I loved Parks at RT.
If he can make it work at Guard ... and if (fingers crossed) B.Miller can hold his own at RT, then we'll have both quality and depth on the OL this year.
Boy oh boy this might be FUN.
