Good morning, my good Friend. Are you on the water in NY?

Had cousins visiting from south Mobile recently, and the husband now is GM of a large shrimp processing facility.
Prior to the gig he worked on shrimp boats and tugs and told me that the tug jobs were his favorite.

It's funny that you mentioned your friend in Mobile and his current work . My grandfather and grandmother both worked and operated a shrimp processing business in the late 40's and through to the early 60's in Biloxi , Ms.

Although native Texans, they actually live in the town

made famous in the movie "Forest Gump," Bayou la Batre.
He has been the GM for over 30 years, and on my first visit years ago, I was surprised with the size of their operation with employment of over 100. Prior to that, he and his Dad owned several shrimping boats, but long periods away from home convinced him to take his current job. I believe his tug experience was along the Mississippi, which was, as previously mentioned, his favorite.
When they arrived recently, he had a huge cooler full of fresh jumbo shrimp, oysters and crab, and we feasted mightily.
Also, on visits with them, we go to the casinos in Biloxi...at least once...twice if I drop by on my flip trip from vacations in south Texas. lol

I drove by the Bayonne Bridge yesterday on the NJ Turnpike

On my way back to DC and my flight back to San Jose. Took a little summer vacation at sis's Jersey Shore house on Barnegat Bay, Long Beach Island, NJ. Crabbing and fishing all day, beers and food all night. Gotta get back to my Italian roots each summer and have all my peeps laugh at my SC accent, etc...lol. I am the only one who did not grow up in NJ as the baby kid, but I have another Tiger fan in the NJ fam....a cousin who played football with Charlie Bauman at Runnemede HS. All the rest are Domers, Penn Staters, and Rutgers alums and fans. Take care out there on the water brother...

The Bayonne Bridge is under construction and its roadway is being lifted several meters to accomodate the larger container ships that cannot get under it to get back into Ports Elizabeth and Newark . Check for schedules if you are imtent on crossing it because it is completely off limits more often than not these days.

and another tangential connection here - I have a friend in NJ, another architect in our Somerset office, who lives with his old dad. They took me over to Peter Lugers for dinner one night and as we drove by I told them how I had always admired the Bayonne bridge. Well, it turns out Jim's dad, Sid, was one of the lead civil engineers on that piece of work back in the day. Wow! I suddenly kinda' felt like I was in the company of Mickey Mantle and never knew it. Good people. Take care out there!

It is cool at times . Sucks at others . Just always wanted to be on the water (brother /father /grandfather all in the Navy ) so I was always around the ocean and boats . This has been my career for over 25 years and I am fortunate to have found it . Retiring at 55 (6/23/2024) and moving on to the next chapter .
