CHASE YOUNG

I know Young did not do too much against us and Carmen played great against him. Question is did we double team young a lot or did Carmen shut him down for the most part by his self ? Yes I watched the game just a crazy night and did not focus on that part as much.

quote (maybe from Trevor Lawrence, possibly Jackson) that said they didn't double team him much.
To me, at least early on, it seemed like most of our plays were run away from him.

Think saying he didn't do much is a bit of an understatement .

Come now, he's the greatest lineman in the history of college football. Just like Joey Baby is the greatest qb in the history of college football. Just like 'Bammer was the greatest team in college football in 2016 and 2018.

And one of his two tackles was on L-J Dixon 17 yards downfield. Not sure ho impactful the other tackle was.

It appeared to be a combination of things. At times we ran plays that removed him from contention. Other times Carmen held his own and even dominated some plays. Based on replays, I also believe Young was coasting. Whether from being tired, lazy, or already satisfied with his draft stock, it appeared as though Young took some plays off.

Interesting. I caught this also when it came to rushing the passer. As the game progressed, he got discouraged.
There was a combo of double-teams and chipping against Young but there was some single-blocking where he didn't get there in time. In the 2nd half, I don't believe all of the single-blocking was on Carman's side (could be wrong).
This was the 3rd straight game O-lines were well-prepped for him and once he knew our plan was solid, he dialed it down some.
When it came to run pursuit, he was an animal all game. Crazy speed for a 270 lb guy. He'll go #2 behind Burrow for sure.

I rewatched the game and watched what we did to stop him. We only doubled him a couple times and that was using the RB. We ran away from him for the most part but he played both sides so not sure if we just preferred going to the right. He definitely had an effect on the game by rushing/hitting TL several times.
Overall not impressed. Carman did a great job one on one and Anchrum didn’t do a terrible job, at least slowed him down.

Yes agreed He definitely moved around a lot but was very ineffective against Carmen. He went to the Anchrum side more where he did require a double team or chip quite often.

Some plays, we didn't even block him. TL broke his ankles on one of his RPOs.

the tape. Variety of tactics- did some chipping with Galloway etc. on his way out on routes, some double, some plays at him to make him pick and then take the other option. A lot of way from him so we were probably changing/calling once he lined up. But when we had to go 1 v 1, we did well.

On his play- I don’t know what stat it goes under but he definitely tried to rip TL16’s head off on Wade’s targeting play!
