said from the GS airport that he was staying at Clemson.
He flew to Florida and accepted the head coaching job.
Coaches do not always tell the truth.
That was a hurtful day, him lying and Clemson losing their coach.

But i did not know untill the Danny Ford interview done by a Clemson student that Pell did at least meet with the coaches that Friday night.

I do remember that Gator Bowl though. A storybook start. And the final demise of Woody Hayes.
Pell even left us with a bit of baggage, as I recall.

self due to cancer and depression..since I encouraged him that Clemson folks still cared for & loved him..and that he had done a lot for us even though he had left in a bad way.
One of my best notes received..including ones from Danny & Coach Howard. Wish John Heisman had done the same (Ha!).

Not then, he wasn't. It was a little thing called NCAA.
He really was a good coach though. "Coach Pell is Hell"
Lots of memories. Glad to know that he did meet with the coaches. Coach Ford was in Charlotte recruiting as well as I can remember when he got the call from Pell.

alcoholism on top of that. I would say he was mentally ill at Clemson. After all he did to Red Parker, lying and recruiting issues he could be considered by some a sociopath.

Red Parker beat SC that year and still got fired. so it goes both ways.
That might Have been the game where the Tigers had started slow all year long . When they came out on the field for warmups, the uniforms were already dirty. Parker had them in a full scrimmage before the game !
