I haven't been there, but I was reading and article the other day about a pizza place in Mt Pleasant that has Pittsburgh style pizza. Anyway, they ranked in a top 50 pizza place in America.

I lived in Pittsburgh for a while. Second worst kind of pizza I've ever had (St Louis pizza is the worst). I would never recommend any food from Pittburgh. They don't believe in spice or seasoning and their only condiments are Heinz ketchup and Hidden Valley Ranch. Their most famous food is probably flavorless mashed potatoes in a potsticker.

I’ll second FIG. One of the best restaurants in the country. 167 is great too. Oak or Halls for steak. The Ordinary is a fun seafood place also. I think bar at Husk is open again. It’s fun. Also for breakfast or lunch Vareity Store it’s downtown at City Marina and has free parking. Barsa is closed. There’s a newer great Spanish restaurant called Estadio. For an authentic bar food good experience, Moes Crosstown is great. Wings/Burgers and beer. Bring your wallet. Chs prices are through the roof. Might as well be eating in Manhattan.

As far as tours go, you've always got the carriage tours, but as a native there are better options, but most if not all is going to be historical in one way or another. You've got Charlestowne Landing, Magnolia Plantation, Middleton Place, Fort Sumter, Fort Moultrie, the Provost Dungeon.
Usually around this time of year, we'll get a ridiculously cold & windy weekend here so hopefully that's not the case for you

I’ll eat at Red Lobster. I’m not an elitist when it comes to eating. But if you’ve grown up on fresh seafood right out the creek, I can’t imagine thinking they’re great shrimp. Charleston offers truly exceptional dining experiences. The OP was asking for recommendations. I wouldn’t recommend chain restaurants. And while Hymans is locally owned - I equate it with that level of restaurant.

Very few Charleston restaurants source even a majority of their seafood locally. It’s actually impractical with a fixed menu. Chubby Fish is the only one I know of that I can say with certainty is 100% locally sourced. Most places that claim it are counting anything wild caught in the Atlantic or Gulf Coast as “local”, if not outright lying.

If you are on Johns Island, go see the Angel Oak. It’s one thing left there that doesn’t charge a fee and it is the most majestic, huge, amazing, old oak tree you will ever see. I grew up just a few miles from it and we used to go climb all over it when we were kids in the 60s and 70s.
An indoor historical stop that is amazing to me as a native is the CSS Hunley. It’s a civil war submarine. They raised it about 15-20 years ago and it is open for tours now. When we went it was still submerged in a salt water tank as they were still excavating the interior and working on preservation. It is a surreal experience for anyone interested in the civil war
I didn’t see where anyone mentioned Boone Hall Plantation. It is a beautiful place but like most others in CHS, is expensive to visit. We also would go there when we were kids. It wasn’t a tourist attraction then, but my Dad knew the owners and he actually lived on the grounds before I was born and was their caretaker. He planted azaleas along the avenue of oaks leading to the house and they were beautiful. The azaleas were removed when it became a tourist destination because they were not there originally. All of the other plantation homes that were mentioned by others are great spots as well.

Yea - agreed, it's hard to find resos for any of the popular stuff, and location is key too. I live in the Park Circle area, so (like I was saying in my post), it's hard for me to make it to Johns Island or some of those. And it sucks, as I love some of the stuff popping up out there. More and more often, we find ourselves venturing toward the Royal Terns and Wild Olive type places. And Millers All Day has me seriously considering moving to James Island. (Btw, Millers is co-owned by a HS classmate of mine and Clemson Graduate)
As far as hard to get into though - Chubby Fish.. I've chalked up that I'll probably never make it inside there. Their whole system seems wonky and I've sat inside the Elliotborough Minibar and watched people line up hours ahead. I met a guy the other day that said he paid someone $50 to hold a spot in line - I guess that's how it works these days. All that sounds frustrating and a bit pretentious, so.. that's one I probably won't be able to try - but the rest of your list is A++ sir.

Charles Towne Fermentory makes some fantastic beer. I like Westbrook’s beer too but I’m amazed at how small and unappealing their tasting room/area is for a brewery that makes such good beer. I’m also a big fan of Low Tide Brewing on Johns Island. Their flagship brew, Aloha Beaches, is great and the brewery is very close to where I grew up and my brother and sister still live there so it’s convenient when I’m there. Lots of Charlestonians will tell you the best local beer is at Munkle but I think that only applies if you are a fan of Belgian type beer. I’d you are, it is some of the best around.

Westbrook makes the best stouts in the state and CTF makes the best IPAs. You’re definitely right about the Westbrook atmosphere. Often good to check their on tap list or find out what food truck will be there. Lots of other good breweries in Charleston but those are the two I think put out world class beers.

I've been down here since 2003. I'd skip 167, that place is overhyped. For fried seafood, hit up Dave's Carryout - as the name implies, it's to-go only, but the best food and prices in town. As others have mentioned, The Wreck is also awesome.
For brunch, hit up Miller's All Day (either DT or JI - I always go to JI). Rappahannock is excellent, one of the best oyster spots in town. Lewis BBQ and Rancho Lewis are both top-tier. For a high-end steakhouse, Hall's (but everyone in SC has been to a Hall's by now), Burwells and/or the new one, Marbled and Fin.
A lot of what you do/see will be location based - our traffic is a nightmare. If you're staying in MP, you probably won't venture to James/Johns Island. If you're downtown, you're not heading up to Summerville..
Anyway, a few of my/our other faves - in no order, just my thoughts:
La Farfalle - Italian (Downtown)
The Darling Oyster Bar (Downtown)

wisertimeHave you been to Fam’s Brewing on James Island or any of the Famulari’s Pizzaria locations? They have 4-5 locations of the restaurant in the Charleston area. I’ve only been to the brewery/restaurant location on James Island. The beer is good and the food is great. They have an appetizer item they call pepperoni rolls. It’s pepperoni and cheese wrapped in thin pizza dough and fried. Kind of like a pepperoni egg roll. They are great with their beer cheese.

If weather is nice, a great lunch is to get your to go seafood at Dave’s and head to The Battery to eat and enjoy the view.
Also haven’t seen a mention of Patriots Point. A tour of the carrier Yorktown should not be missed.
Alas, my fav seafood place closed several years ago- The Anchor Line on Folly Rd close to the River. Loved taking visitors from off there as one of the few places serving shark! When they’d turn up their nose and ask how was it, I did the Dad joke: “it’s good - unless it’s bitter from who it ate!”

If weather is nice, a great lunch is to get your to go seafood at Dave’s and head to The Battery to eat and enjoy the view.
Also haven’t seen a mention of Patriots Point. A tour of the carrier Yorktown should not be missed.
Alas, my fav seafood place closed several years ago- The Anchor Line on Folly Rd close to the River. Loved taking visitors from off there as one of the few places serving shark! When they’d turn up their nose and ask how was it, I did the Dad joke: “it’s good - unless it’s bitter from who it ate!”

Take a walk on the end of Folly by the lighthouse.

Lost’s of good ones in the Bay Street area.
Beware of Shem Creek: WAY too many tourist trap joints with mediocre seafood.
The Boat House at Breach Inlet at Sullivan’s Island. Their outside upstairs Bar guarantees that you’ll see dolphins jumping in the inlet. Well worth the drive. Sullivan’s Island is now what Isle of Palms used to be.
