thoughts?

My job is intense. I see really bad stuff. See the story post, which is tame and something I could actually share.

I seemingly care less if Clemson wins a football game. I just want to watch, if they win AMAZING, if they lose, the sun will come up.

Same with my son’s football team. I care, don’t get me wrong, I want him to do well and I want them to win, but if he crushes it (as he has been) and they are 0-2…..as they are…I don’t really care.

I am not sure if it’s age, my desensitized mind or what…but it’s a weird feeling.

I just don’t care about the same things I used to care about. Now I wish this would happen with politics.

Maybe it’s just growing up.

Oh, yeah
Mmm
Still don't know what I was waitin' for
And my time was runnin' wild
A million dead end streets and
Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I've never caught a glimpse
How the others must see the faker
I'm much too fast to take that test
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't want to be a richer man
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
There's gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
Mmm, yeah
I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
And so the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They're quite aware of what they're goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Don't tell them to grow up and out of it
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Where's your shame?
You've left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can't trace time
Strange fascinations fascinate me
Ah, changes are taking
The pace I'm goin' through
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Ooh, look out, you rock 'n' rollers
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Turn and face the strange
Ch-ch-changes
Pretty soon now you're gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can't trace time

Also with Clemson football. It's interesting. The time in my life when I cared the least about Clemson football was when I was a student at Clemson. Seems odd, but there was so much more to life at that time, and I guess now there's so much more in our lives now, some things seem less important than when you had the time to care.

Not sure if this makes sense, but it's how I see things these days.

Weather was nice, sunny, and you could lay down on the bleachers and relax. The stadium echoed when a good play happened.

Once you figure out that there are 15-20 people who can actually impact politics in this country and you aren’t one of them, the give a #### quotient goes waaay down.

And you have to use it in your job. Thing is, if you turn off the unpleasant feelings you also turn off the pleasant ones. You can’t selectively numb.

Men at 25 play football. Men at 40 play tennis. Men at 60 play golf. Have you noticed as men get older their balls get smaller.

What you're experiencing doesn't seem all that odd. Grown men getting worked up over sports is weird to me. My only priorities are wife and job, so that's where my passions pique. I'll indulge myself some emotional spillover into Fantasy Football because I have control over that so it's more competitiveness than anything, but with the other stuff? It's fun, but if Clemson loses, what impact does that have on my life that would warrant an emotional response other than, "Fire Dabo!"?

It could be emotional numbing. Or it could be the fact that you're maturing as you grow older and you're realizing what's actually important, and not letting the boy stuff hit you like it did.

It sounds like you have begun to see and appreciate things for what they are. It's the media's job to make us care about things more than we probably should. Just look around the board at people getting amped up about what some writer or Finebaum said about Clemson. We are not the fire, we are the fuel.

I watched as my 4-year old nephew seemed entranced by a golf tournament that was on TV. With every shot we was like "wow!.....OOOH!....go in the hole!" He had no idea the outcome or ramifications of any shot. My sister turned to me and said, "that's how I'm gonna watch sports from now on. Just enjoy it for what it is".

There was a time when my father was constantly grumpy and always going off on the latest political news of the day. On the end table next to his chair I could always find Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, Kiplinger..etc. I finally told him that these magazines don't really care if you agree with what they're writing or not. All they're concerned about is that you bought it. Several months later on a visit home I noticed Dad in a far more jovial mood. And also no news magazines to be found anywhere. Now, some of you may say ignorance is bliss, maybe. But you can still stay informed and not be lead down a path of mental destruction.

I have several friends in the military. All who have been on numerous deployments. One said to me once there isn't much here (at home) that's going to offend me after what I've seen. They brush most of this stuff off as "First World Problems". It's not that they don't care, it's that they have a very different perspective. Every 3 years or so, our church sends our youth group on a mission trip out of the country. They have been to Mexico, Jamaica, Belize (and nowhere near any of the resorts areas). The mission is two-fold. One to actually go and work and help out to those in need. The second is for them. To give them a little more perspective of the world they live in and the world that they do not.

College football got too big. It never made fiscal sense to have to donate thousands of dollars each year to be eligible to buy season tickets with a decent parking spot. Or to spend hundreds of dollars each year on caps, shirts, sweatshirts, and other low-quality gear, just to replace it all again during the next Black Friday sale.

The endless $$ that we, the fans, poured into college football has all but ruined the sport, IMO. Not surprising that many of us aren't as tuned-in.

If you'd told me 10 years ago I would know longer give a crap about going to Clemson games I'd laugh in your face.. but honestly at this point I'd rather watch my kids get last place in any sport than watch Clemson win.
