My relatives were there from the start, sometimes opposed it.
They arrived from Scotland and Ireland in the 1600s. They became the first "USA AMERICANS".
My clan has a long line of kin folks who have volunteered to fight for the USA.
It was a natural thing for me to also do. Per capita, no state stands up more than SC.
People forget that at the time George Washington was maybe the richest man in America, with the most to loose.

Sounds like a great day. Your people beat mine to the US. Mine arrived in 1759 through the port of Charleston SC from Scotland.

Mine came in at Richmond and moved South.
Paternal came from Scotland, Maternal from Cork Ireland.
Many back then were descendants of the army of William the Conqueror who had arrived from France.

William left France and took over England in 1066, so many Frenchies were already there by the time of the Huguenots.

I always thought my blood ran Irish, until my son did the 23 thing. I don't know how accurate it is, but it seems, there's a lot more Scot in me than anything else. It also seems they were pirates that migrated up from Charleston, and were more than likely in the Swamp Foxes little band. Notice I had to give a tip of the hat to that great Tigernet American, @FrancisMarion. I also found out that my great grandmother on my old mans side, was a full blood Cherokee Indian, raised on a reservation in the western part of NC. The things you never know.
