Stanford sucks

I sure do wish I could be a top five team, lose to a unranked team, and still be in the BCS title race. I honestly think we could and would beat Stanford. Espcially if we played in the valley " WEEE TOO DEEP"!!

Care to explain why they suck?

So they lost to an unranked team, so have other teams, including us in the past, but you weren't here screaming how we suck.
So, besides a little slip up, how does Stanford suck? Based on how they handled Oregon, I wouldn't use Stanford and suck in the same sentence.

You honestly think if we would have lost to BC but beat FSU that we would still be in the title race. I wasnt saying their players suck im saying its sucky that they have that option at a BCS title run and we dont. Yet we play harder teams in my opinion especially this year.

We can beat them....however

they are Alabama "light". They want to run the ball right down your throat, eat the clock, and their defense runs all over the place and hits like a truck. They are the team that, if you don't play disciplined football, they'll beat your ###, period. We can speed them out of the stadium or we can play with poor fundamentals/bad tackling, etc., and get beat 17-10. I see them every week out here and i went to the Stanford/Oregon game last week at Stanford. They are fast on defense and they drill you and cause turnovers. Offensively, they are Alabama-ish in that they run the ball about 70 percent of the time and have an offensive line that is like a machine. Their QB has arm issues but you have got to hit him. If you can't stop their run you have no chance. Their RB had 45 carries for about 150 yards against Oregon. That's what they want to do and if you don't cause turnovers, you have no chance because they'll grind out the clock. We can blow them away or we can get beat 17-10....it all depends on if we turn it over and play sloppy defense. We don't turn it over and we play tough run defense, we beat them 35-7. That's just my take on it since i see them so much out here. Shaw is a great, great coach and his teams play disciplined football within themselves. I'd rather play Oregon than Stanford, truth be told.

Difference between them and Bama

Passing game. Stanford is nowhere near where Bama is in regards to QB and WR talent. They are great at running the ball but they are mostly one dimensional.

and went to the Stanford/Duck game. QB has a weak arm but is accurate for the most part. He is probably the most average QB they've had in years there. Talked to a bunch of Stanford fans (including several who were at the bowl when we beat them back in the '80's) and they are not sold on the kid at QB and he scares them. He can, however, move out of the pocket and get yardage. Their RB is light in the pants but is like AE was in the sense that between the tackles he's shifty and doesn't go down on first contact. Everyone on offense can catch the ball out of the backfield but what they want to do is get 4 yards a carry, eat the clock, and beat you down physically. Their OL is a machine. Defensively they are fast, hit hard, and every second guy is trying to strip the ball. Skow is an NFL LB and their DB's are roughnecks. Shaw coaches an NFL style offense and they are what they are and do what they do very well. Their WR's are average at best but they block like hell downfield. If you can contain their run and hit Hogan you beat them. If you don't, there is no chance. Utah blitzed like crazy and stopped their run for the most part. You have got to make them put the ball on the ground.

spend their time on saturdays hitting folks in the teeth like a bunch of wild dogs. Their LB's and DB's hit like missiles too. Watch number 11 Skow at ILB....kid is a turnover machine and drills you. I'd rather play Oregon than that fundamentally sound Stanford team any day.

Thats the most in the country......Suck may be too strong of a word.
Did you watch the game last week? Stanford is a top 3 team.. Their style tends to leave them open to an upset every once in a while but make no mistake they can beat any team in the country.

at the time of their games. Some are still pretty strong teams in the rankings like ArizSt and Oregon and UCLA. Although we beat UGA at their peak strength, their current situation hurts us numerically. And we all now the only other ranked team outcome. It is aggravating for sure.

Lost to a Utah team that has been very tough at home.

It's a bad loss, but people make it sound like they lost to a FCS team or something. A couple other ranked teams barely survived trips to Utah. UCLA by 7 and ASU by 1.
Then you look at Stanford's wins and there probably isn't another team in the country at this point that can match them. #6 Oregon, #13 UCLA, #19 Arizona St, and two more solid teams in Washington and Oregon St.

I am fine ranking Stanford near those other teams you just mentioned. The other teams that were close to Utah are in the 15-25 range. I think Stanford is better than that but they should not be top 5 because they do have that bad lose to a team with a losing record.

Agreed. I dont care who theyve beat, the fact that if people were not shoved so far up their ***, they would see there are other teams to be in their position : EX: baylor, auburn, mizzu?? I know i hate the SEC but come on. They have much more creditable losses than that of Stanford.

To the question of lose to Wake but beat FSU would we be in the natty champ conversation
Yes, if Clemson had beaten, 4 other ranked teams on the big stage.
Crazy the way people don't just get the facts before coming up with opinions.
Stanford has the most legit wins of any team in the country plus they manhandled Oregon on the national stage, add in they lost early in the season which is always easier to come back from
I know it is hard to understand since the ACC screws Clemson every year and doesn't offer a chance to play 5 ranked teams. Clemson is lucky to have 1 ranked opponent without going out of conference to find one and Stanford has beaten 4 or 5
It isn't an exact science because emotion, health, location, etc all matter when teams meet. I don't know how good Oregon is but Stanford owned that team and the score didn't really show how lopsided it was until the last 6 minutes of the game
Stanford is a big time team and Clemson needs an opportunity with a schedule of ranked teams to show they can compete too

them ranked somewhere between 3 and 5. There are no crazy outlying votes here. I know the AP isn't used by the BCS, but there's no reason to expect those polls would be much different. It's not like west coast voters ranking them #1 or something stupid. It's not like east coast voters have them 10th either. There is a consensus that they belong somewhere between 3rd and 5th.
The computers have them 3rd ahead of Ohio St and Baylor which is why they are 4th in the BCS. Do they have the computers in their pocket as well?
Some of the comments on here are ridiculous. Do you guys even take 30 seconds to research stuff before you post?

Nov 12, 2013, 11:12 AM

they are the most fundamentally sound team in the nation, virtually every year. When their talent is up, like the last couple of years, it gets a lot more serious with them. They aren't going to "wow" anyone with big plays. They don't have to. They are deep, ridiculously physical, and their D is all ballhawking hitters. I think that some people don't watch them or are too busy socializing when a Stanford game is on. They methodically do what they do and if you cannot stop them running it into the teeth of your defense, they'll beat you 9 out of 10 times, especially if you turn it over. Alabama and them are similar but Bama has more explosive talent. I'd make the argument though that Stanford makes fewer mistakes than any team i've seen this year and it's like that every year. Talk about well coached, smart, hard nosed football....i have a ton of respect for that program.

I can't wait for you to put NIU and Fresno ahead of Auburn, SC, and A&M. UCF ahead of SC? Oklahoma St ahead of Stanford will be a treat too. Is UCLA also ahead of Stanford? lol
I'm struggling to find 9 teams to go ahead of Stanford if Auburn, A&M, and SC are all of the running.
Bama, FSU, Baylor, Ohio State, Oregon, Clemson, Mizzou. OK, that's 7. Now what? I guess we have to put OK St in here despite the fact they have one of the worst schedules in all of CFB, have played no teams currently ranked and only 2 with winning records, and lost to WVU. Oh boy! Then i guess we have to fill out our top 9 with Fresno or NIU.. or maybe even UCLA that Stanford beat the crap out of. Wow! Or i guess we could just throw Michigan St in there since they beat Michigan and lost to ND. Sweet team there.

in addition to two more wins that are as good or better than our best win right now. I know UGA was a much better team when we played them healthy than they are now, but nobody really cares about that as this point in the season. Our best win was against a 3-loss team ranked 25th and we got embarrassed in our show down against FSU.
I was just playing along with the other guy in my post above.

Two AAC teams that have beaten nobody at 8th and 9th, one of which SC beat on their home field. Is the AAC a better conference than the PAC 12 or something?
Oregon 5 spots ahead of a Stanford team that absolutely abused them. I don't even know what to say about that.
NIU ahead of 3 good SEC teams. This is essentially the same NIU team that didn't belong on the field with FSU last year in the Orange Bowl. I'm not sure why anyone would think they belong up there this year...
