you’re complaining about the same offense we’ve been seeing, but yet y’all are complaining about Riley being a bad hire!! You know good and well dabo is running this show! Even if Riley is calling, he’s calling what he’s told he’s not being allowed to run his offense yet.

Bro look at the games. Literally just watch the games. It’s the same offense we’ve been running since Morris.
The tapes don’t lie. If you know football schematics at all you should be able to see the differences by watching the tapes.
You don’t need somebody to confirm out loud what your eyes can absolutely tell you.
Go to YouTube and turn on the tapes of any games and if you can’t see the schematic differences and concepts differences then you just don’t know football in that way which is fine but I’m just saying.
Your eyes are telling you the truth if you know what you’re looking for.

What exactly has changed from last years Playcalling? The answer is nothing. That’s how you know Riley is not making the final call. It’s Dabo and his Waffle House menu.

I keep seeing this and I’m not disagreeing but why? Why would Dabo (who has been a pretty good CEO) keep what’s supposed to be a good oc from calling his own plays? Just doesn’t make sense. Although I admit, it’s hard to disprove at this point.

It wouldn’t make sense for him to do it, nor would it make sense for an OC to take a job where it was going to happen, and if he did why would Riley lie about it? Lots of questions. Dabo holding a play sheet and wearing a headset doesn’t answer them, he did that going back to Morris.

I don’t have access to all the information. I also don’t know if Dabo is calling plays. You would think he’s not, based on the evidence, but again, I can’t be sure. What I am 100% sure of is Dabo wearing a headset and holding a play sheet is not proof he is.

There is a coaching problem.
It is not Riley. Its position coaches all through the system. Example: Our o-line does not perform well. Is it because of the play that was called or because the position coach has not trained and taught them HOW to execute the play successfully?

I don't see that as unusual. The HC might want to know what the play is called (headset) and then look it up on the play sheet.
I think the bigger issue in this particular "conspiracy" is not Dabo calling plays, but Riley not being allowed to change the offense because his supporting cast of coaches do not know enough about coaching to be able to implement it with the players. Therefore we are still running the same offense and the same plays we have run for the last four years. Other posters have pointed out that you can go to Youtube and look at past years and readily see that we are still running the exact same offense that we have always been running with no changes at all.
As part of this, I also saw an interview with the difference in his performance this year and in the past two. He was very polite, but he said his head was not clear about how to perform on the field and he had to clear the cloud out of his head that was created by Clemson. Right now he is ranked as the #7QB in college football with an 82 QBR. Cade by comparison has a 53.2 QBR. This does say the DJ actually got better after he left our system. You can say "they ain't played nobody" or all that craps, but come on we struggled to beat Wake Forest, lost to a low end top 25 team starting a freshman qb in his first game, lost to another low-end top 25 team in Duke...so we can't exactly crow about how tough or schedule is. The point here is that our staff is not helping Cade they are probably making him worse.

Clemson and TCU run spread offenses, 11, 10, 21 personnel = identical sets.
Riley is a 50/50 play caller, run/pass, of course it will look similar as Clemson has been a planned 50/50 team since theChad and his smash-mouf spread. I highly doubt GR would have been considered if he was not.
There are stories of significant changes from last year to this. One big one is leaving 2, 5, 9 and some cross training behind, going to X, Y, Z that doesn't require the former 2 & 9 to flip sides for Field & Boundary.
The new language, signs, system requires a learning curve, no doubt, but from listening to GR his system is new user friendly in its lack of breadth.
DJ said he melted under the bright lights, being the center of attention at Clemson and found peace in anonymity at OSU. Good for DJ, but he showed up in 2021 as the defacto leader of the football team at nearly 270 pounds and played like it. He was remade by the staff coming into 2022 after losing 30-40 pounds. That's all on DJ, no one else.

Bc winning 2 national championships and reading your own press clipping about how you’re the top tier coach in all the land can and will go to anyone’s head.
Dabos been to the mountain top 2 and it’s made him think it was all him bc that’s what he’s been told by all the fans and people around him when we were winning.
He thought he could hire whoever recruit whoever and coach whatever way he wants and still win bc he thought he was on Sabans level.
Then Dabo got mouthy about every little issue bc he was winning and he’s stuck his foot in his mouth so much that he can’t back off and admit anything to anyone or himself.
He has too much pride to admit what’s wrong or admit to himself he isn’t a play caller or at least a play caller that’s any good.
He told Riley a bunch of bs and lies to get him here and once Riley signed then it doesn’t matter. Dabo can overrule him on whatever and it won’t matter bc he knows Riley wouldn’t air out the dirty laundry publicly bc it’d make him look bad in the coaching community and turn off other potential employers.
Believe me… now that Riley sees how it really is he will be on the first train smoking out of Clemson as soon as he gets the chance.

I have no reason for Riley to be untruthful about his role in calling the plays. He’s owned it.
Tonight, our OL did OK in pass protection. Our OL got obliterated in run blocking. Crushed.
Our WRs were OK. We had receivers getting open, but CK2 is laser focused … burning a hole through the primary receiver again and again. After the Brinningstool Show debuted in Q3, CK2 stared him down again and again.
On the second down play in second overtime when CK2 rolled to his left, Collins was wide open and in CK2’s direct line of sight. Easy TD. Instead, CK2 tries to force the pass … again … to Brinningstool. Incomplete.
However, the pass protection was good enough for us to win if CK2 had more consistent accuracy. I’m afraid that he simply does not possess that skill.
Kind of like DJU, CK2 isn’t consistently accurate. Occasional great passes. Frequent off-target on short passes to RBs, in which the RB has to get off balance in order to catch the ball, after which the RB loses a step or two while getting himself in position to run forward. This type of inaccuracy simply KILLS a play.
Wide open mid range passes in the middle of the field; these get missed far too often. These misses are drive killers and potential lost TD opportunities. CK2 looks like DJU from the accuracy standpoint, except that CK2 has nowhere near the arm strength.
I hope he learns a lot during the final 6 games of the 2023 season. We will make a minor bowl game.

Heck, Dabo can override any call he wants, he is the BOSS.
This offensive play calling has been horrible.
Hard to believe that Clemson had 2 weeks to prepare this horrible gameplan.

i’m not necessarily saying, as far as proof that Dabo is the one calling the plays, Even if Riley is actually calling the place Dabo, it’s not letting him run his style offense I don’t believe because we’re seeing the same old thing so the proof is in the pudding so to speak. I believe he brought Riley here but I believe he’s keeping him on such a tight leash and is afraid to turn the offense around. He said plenty of times this season. This is Clemson’s offense. We are going to run Clemson’s offense, Share that got a sub national championships, but this is a different person. These are different players, and you have to change to fit their talent. Sometimes I swear to God if I see another Swing past the sideline, I’m losing it

Riley diplomatically said that he’s made some adjustments to the Air Raid offense that we saw when he was at TT and TCU.
I suspect that a good hunk of success at his previous two stops was because the Big 12 has a bunch of teams with terrible defenses.
Where I’m especially confused is with the slow pace of our offense. Far too often, the play clock is within 5 seconds … not rarely ready to hit 0 … before the ball gets snapped.
Where is the fast paced offense that was so widely advertised? This lack of pace thing is where I wonder if Dabo is, somehow, leading to slowing down the pace.

Riley is only 34 and his experience ain't all that impressive to me. TCU was a senior team already. He is inexperienced and unproven in my opinion.

It makes sense to me. Dabo is not likely making the play calls. But it is the SAME offense as we have run for many years. Has Dabo forbidden any changes or is it that based on their COACHES down the line?Maybe just maybe they cannot make the a big offensive change because the coaches don't know how to coach a Riley-based system yet?

Does it really matter who makes the calls if the players have not been trained well enough by the position coaches to carry out the play to begin with? It's one thing to do it in practice where the unknowns (like what other defensive players will do) are controlled, but quite another to handle it in a game.
O-Line for example: How do you handle a DL that spins like this? or if he spins with another technique, or comes at you low? On and on about how to handle moves that defensive players might try and how exactly to handle them. If the player is not coached up adequately on all of that then you get a higher percentage of failed plays. It won't matter what the play call is if the player does not know all the skills their job MIGHT require during that play.
To me the problem is, continues to be, and will continue to be position coaches that develop actual game talent. Gotta clean house.
